February 28, 2018 - Dinner at Sun Wah (Chicago, IL): From magnum. The oak spice on this is still showing too prominently for my palate. It persists from the nose to the finish, and the tannins that are still here seem to be derived from oak. The fruit profile here is quite nice, with some crunchy red fruit and a ripeness that definitely feels more new world than old. To my palate, this could probably be aged a little more, to perhaps round out the rough edges a little more.

December 26, 2013 - Ruby colored, medium bodied, this exhibited big fruit aromatics, full forward cherry, boysenberry and raspberry fruit flavors, clove and cinnamon spices with a layer tea, tobacco and hint of smoke on a smooth moderate tannin finish.

January 1, 2013 - very nice now. can mature more but i like it this way. color isnt bright, wine doesnt have muh clarity, but has a typical oregon nose and palate that follows. just a touch of secondary. good fruit and balance. earthy. feels heavier on the second day but i like it this way with no aeration. great with roast duck/goose.

April 3, 2011 - Opened and decanted for 45 minutes (magnum decanted into 2). Beautiful medium ruby with only the slightest bricking on the edge. Wonderful nose of Cherry, spice (oak), raspberry, mild earth and floral notes. Pretty much the same on the Palate - wonderful cherry/raspberry fruit with spice, earth and a touch of flowers all nicely integrated and giving a moderate lingering finish.

I almost cannot recognize this wine in other recent CT notes; it was really very nice and drinking beautifully. Not as big and robust as it showed when last tasted in 2007 but this bottle has aged remarkably well.

March 12, 2011 - Magnum Madness 2011! (Marshall's place): A lot of folks found this a bit large on this night, but it surprisingly didn't come across as such for me. Certainly there is plenty of spicy oak on the nose, but there's also this thick, funky meat smell that's interesting. The palate is large in scale, creamy and lush, with nice wood spice balancing it. The savior comes with high levels of tart acids on the finish which keep the big fruit and tannins tame. The acids are what I'm primarily left with on the palate. Without the acid this wouldn't be too interesting, but with it I found it quite enjoyable.
