4/27/24, 3:37 AM - Couldn’t agree with you more. Clos L’Eglise is such an underrated Pomerol. I had the 1989 ages ago and it was sublime. I rate the 04 Église better than Trotanoy, one of my favorite Pomerols.
11/17/23, 4:48 AM - Superbe commentaire. Bordeaux & Coltrane. En effet il n'y a pas mieux
10/1/23, 1:39 AM - An hour should suffice but I would pour a glass and drink slowly whilst the wine is aerating.
10/1/23, 1:36 AM - Keep buying more of the 2002 DP that is the best solution. Great value for money
7/27/23, 3:49 AM - Your review is so to the point. I've been buying and drinking the PB '89/90 for 12 years now. It's so hard to pick a favorite. Both vintages are fabulous each with a completely different style. Which will outlast the other is anyone's guess. Accumulate as much as you can. Same comments go to Lynch Bages' 89/90.
12/8/22, 8:08 AM - I so agree with your comments LB is slower in maturing than Latour! However I would and will rate this 82 LB higher :)
9/20/22, 12:28 AM - Thanks for your note. Just bought 3 bottles and will try one this Friday. I will follow your advice and decant
9/8/22, 11:02 AM - I was at the same Enoteca a week earlier! Agree with you and I bought a couple of bottles of this wine.
1/8/22, 5:37 AM - Best to keep the bottle in your cellars for at least a month before consuming especially if it has undergone travel and transportation. Hope you have another one to sample
9/5/21, 8:54 AM - Indeed you are right as this Sassicaia is very exotic
6/23/21, 9:19 AM - Merci de votre note. Il me reste une bouteille de Leoville Lascases 86 et je viens d’acheter une autre caisse de 12! En effet pour mon gout LLC est un 1er Grand Cru en St Julien et non pas un second.
6/23/21, 9:02 AM - That’s great to know. Latour is my favorite all time wine and I just bought 4 bottles of the 2005!
6/13/21, 3:53 AM - Greetings Vintage 1949 which is an excellent vintage for sure. I would not wait too long on it as it's quite enjoyable now. I had the pleasure of trying the R.D 2002 Rosé. Out of this world.
6/13/21, 5:04 AM - In terms of drinking window I'm not sure. Even experts get it wrong. I would say 5 to 10 years remaining so you can enjoy a bottle a year and base your consumption on your experience from that first bottle and then from the next and so forth. Personally I much prefer R.D. to VV. Yes the 2002 R.D. Rosé was spectacular in same league with another of my favorite Rosé DP 2002.
6/3/21, 8:41 AM - Try Giscours 2011 and Cheval. They will change your mind about 2011. Not my favorite vintage either but there will be exceptions.
5/23/21, 9:10 AM - Sure thing. Not sure when I will drink my other and only bottle left but I will definitely aerate properly. My friend had brought a Lafleur 1999 which had been decanted and aerated over 3 hours and it clearly made the difference. Unfortunately his other decanter was broken so we had to wait to finish the Lafleur before we could decant the Mouton. Tough life what can I say. Thanks for your comments and enjoy your wines there is no better pleasure in life.
5/25/21, 12:07 AM - Don’t worry about retirement enjoy the wines. Try at least a bottle
5/13/21, 9:33 AM - Even though my highest score for this wonderful LLC was 97 points I couldn’t agree more with you that it is first growth quality year after year. One bottle of the 86 left but about to buy a case in London.
5/5/21, 8:09 AM - Understandably you rate the wine at the time of tasting but more importantly what is your rating on its potential? It's clearly too young to be drunk now. And I agree so much with you on 2009 vs 2010. 09 is one of my all time favorite vintages in Bordeaux with the best yet to come.
4/30/21, 3:17 AM - Fully agree. Vega Sicilia Unico is a wine I know very intimately having had the 1968, 82, 89, 90, 91, 94, 95, 96, 98, 99, 2000, and 2004 vintages. For me it is the Chateau Latour of Spain and outclasses the Pingus.
3/19/21, 7:46 AM - Well unfortunately now I am out! So clearly need to buy more :)
4/30/21, 3:14 AM - One has to realise post the massive 2005 Bordeaux price increases in En Primeur, there is now a new paradigm as to what constitutes value for money. And let me not even mention Burgundy where there definitely is very little value for drinkers but amazing investment value given the scarcity. So in essence, if you are looking to buy as an investment, then I understand the point about 75-100 a bottle that may not seem like good value. In my case, this Branaire Ducru 05 is excellent value for money as a drinker. As an investment that is the least worry on my mind. Burgundy however is another matter altogether!
4/19/21, 7:45 AM - Why on earth would they serve first growths from a powerful vintage at 10 years of age without a proper decant beats me. The scores could have been quite different had they done that.
4/16/21, 11:48 AM - So glad to see you rate this as high as 97. One of my favorite all time champagnes. Try it from magnum it will even wow you more. Also recommend you try to get hold of some Billecart Salmon Dom Ruinart 2002s. They are in the same league, different in style but similarly amazing.
4/9/21, 3:13 AM - I did not cellar the bottles. Purchased from duty free shop and kept in my cellar for a month. All 5 bottles I have drunk to date have been similarly beautiful.
3/30/21, 11:52 AM - Thank you so much for this amazing review and for sharing your note. Truly a privilege to be invited to such a tasting and I wish I had such friends. Decanting champagne. That’s a first that I’ve heard and will definitely try it on my bottles 20 years of age or younger.
3/30/21, 12:52 AM - Yes it was. But it was lunch :)
3/26/21, 9:57 PM - Thanks for the note. I had exactly the same experience. Must be that the wine has shut down so best to leave it for 2 to 3 years before retrying.
3/19/21, 7:45 AM - I hope so too for you. It took 4 bottles to get that experience.
2/28/21, 8:07 AM - Thanks for the comment. Next time try decanting it for 3 to 4 hours and see the result. Truly a nice wine.
10/31/20, 10:09 AM - Don’t be in a hurry to drink this but if you must you will surely enjoy it tremendously.
9/2/20, 11:34 AM - I so much agree with your note. Along with the young 09, this us my favorite Margaux, even more than the 82. The 90 is amazing but not a 100 points. Seems like you had an amazing time. Enjoy!
8/28/20, 12:03 PM - Too bad the wine was not properly decanted. With 2 hours your score would have been much higher
7/26/20, 4:48 AM - Thanks for the note. Decant and wait 5 hours next time you have this wine. Made a huge difference to me after a similar disappointment in previous bottle.
7/26/20, 4:43 AM - One of the best notes I have read on this wine which I agree is amazing.
6/19/20, 6:23 AM - Thanks for your note pointing out dried flowers. This was the one element I tasted in this wine but could not describe properly.
4/9/20, 3:31 AM - So my question to you is I also have one bottle left from a case of 12. Do I drink during this Covid lock down or should I wait?
4/10/20, 8:22 AM - Sounds like a plan!
3/22/20, 10:01 AM - I would let it breathe 2 to 3 hours in the decanter. The 2009 is a powerful vintage with forward fruit but the tannins are massive. I had the Pauillac de Latour 2 nights ago 09 side by side with the 2010s. The latter was quicker to open up with about an hour in the decanter whereas the 09 took 3 hours. Enjoy as St Julien in 09 is wonderful.
3/20/20, 6:32 AM - Latour is the best way for introspection
12/29/19, 11:16 PM - Thanks for your note. I find a lot of the 1990s have shut down in past 12 months much the same as the 05s did a few years ago. I will wait on my one bottle that I have left.
10/17/18, 11:58 AM - Brilliant note. Couldn’t have summarized characterization of Baron more eloquently. My favorite vintages are the 89 and 2000. The ‘64 I haven’t had the privilege to taste yet.
6/21/19, 12:40 PM - I just had a bottle 3 nights ago. Indeed 1 to 2 hours decent is perfect. The wine has great dark fruit and bitter chocolate and an outstanding finish
8/25/18, 7:52 AM - Just wanted to say that my experience with this wine was totally different than yours so it could well be that the bottle you had was not well preserved. In my book this is one of the best wines I have had and it certainly took more than 3 hours to open up in the decanter. At first it was underwhelming, a sort of mature burgundy but after 3 hours the wine was completely transformed into an elegant full bodied and very complex and aromatic wine. I have a second bottle left so will try in the next few months and write a note. If you are lucky to be able to source another bottle, I urge you to try this wine again.
8/25/18, 12:16 PM - Sincerely hope you do find a pristine bottle. Worth the quest.
7/22/18, 6:20 AM - The I Love it option is the right option for this lovely cognac. By far beats one of my favorite cognacs the Hennessy Paradis. I also thought that the I Love It option was missing! Great stuff.
2/26/18, 9:55 AM - Hi there. Did your bottle open up after about 90 minutes in the decanter? I was clearly underwhelmed the first hour but flabbergasted 90 minutes later.
2/26/18, 10:11 AM - Ok. I had to decant for sediment and I thought of potentially putting some sort of lid on the decanter if I felt the wine would go downhill. In the first hour, it was more burgundy like and didn’t have the weight or complexity. So I thought I’d wait and after 90 minutes the wine gained weight, complexity and the nose completely opened up. Funny how wines and bottles behave. I have one more bottle left. Will retaste in the next few months and post a comment.
9/25/17, 6:45 AM - Thanks. It's not that the wine was in a dumb phase it's just that given the mix of grape varieties, I don't believe CDP can be enjoyed fully until it reaches 15 years of age for top vintages. That is the case. I was just curious to see how the wine evolved. The nose was more open than previously, the finish was longer and softer, and the potential of complexity unveiled although shyly.
6/9/17, 11:32 PM - Definitely recommended. Enjoy the next bottle
10/2/16, 10:17 PM - My pleasure. Indeed a very good unpretentious St Julien. Enjoy the rest of your bottles unfortunately I am out
6/20/16, 10:31 AM - Merci de votre commentaire sur ce vin. J'ai hate de le deguster
4/22/16, 12:19 AM - Indeed. 50-50 chance with this wine but when it works it's outstanding. Hopefully next bottle will show better
3/12/16, 7:40 AM - Just having a bottle now. Agree with your review, it's like drinking sparkling Montrachet! Absolutely sublime.
10/31/15, 2:15 AM - Quite agree with your comments and notes. happy to say we have the same taste. I rated the Lynch Bages 100 points.
8/16/15, 9:18 AM - Indeed a baby but promises to be a heck of a voluptuous dancer.
8/16/15, 9:14 AM - Indeed still young but more approachable than the 02.
Thanks for letting us know about this problem. We will review your comments and be in touch soon with an update.
