I am definitely an enthusiast of WV chards. Vincent was recommended by Marcus Goodfellow as a winery that is making good wine. So I bought a couple of bottles of their Armstrong Chard, this is the first time trying it. PnP. I did not note any reduction on opening. Definitely austere, not enough "oomph" Very subtle mineral, steely, lemony fruit. I did detect a slight odd olive briney note. Not bad, but IMHO short of Goodfellow's '19 base WV chard.

5/18/23, 6:01 AM - For whatever it's worth, I picked up a mixed 6 pack of the 2019 Armstrong, Royer and Tardive chards a while back and have tried one of each thus far. The Armstrong was my least favorite by a good margin.

Decanted about 60 to 90 minutes. Similar note to my last bottle. This held up well against a '14 Phelps Backus; both beautiful wines, even if they are at very different points in their evolution. I had a little left over which I saved under vacuum seal; worth noting that it did not show anywhere near as well the next day.

No detailed notes. From memory, this is similar to the 2005 I opened most recently. Very soft tannins, some game-iness, darker aged fruit notes.

3/31/21, 7:18 AM - No decant, about 90 minutes in the bottle with the cork out and a couple ounces poured out to create head space.

From 375. Deep and complex brioche, toast and almonds on the nose. Great length on the palate. Gets even better with time in glass. My first Krug, loved it!

Served as part of a blind tasting, wherein I knew what I brought, but did not know what either of the other two bottles were. I decanted this about two hours and it received some additional time open back in the bottle. All wines were served blind. I immediately recognized this as my wine based on the earth, mushroom, tart red fruit and balsamic notes. In a better spot than the last bottle a few years back. Still has plenty of time ahead of it.

10/1/20, 7:17 AM - The only guidelines for the blind tasting were newer than 2005 vintage and Bordeaux-shaped bottle. The wines were 2010 Argiano, 2015 Ridge Geyserville and 2018 Frog's Leap Zinfandel. The Argiano was my favorite, followed by the Ridge, then the Frog's Leap (but all three were very enjoyable wines). Surprisingly, the two zins were more different than similar, with Frog's Leap having a heavy pepper element. My wife ranked them Ridge, Frog's Leap, Argiano, as she tends to favor more fruit and less earth.

Last bottle of a case, was excited to try it with my first attempt at smoking a pork shoulder. Corked...bummer.

7/21/20, 8:55 AM - Thanks, I intend to. I've had pretty good luck with domestic producers when I've had corked bottles in the past.

First time drinking this wine. Not as giving on the nose as I might have guessed, but the palate was rich and luxurious. Perhaps lacking a little acidity compared to the best chards, this was nonetheless very enjoyable. A nice pairing with grilled colossal shrimp.

Gift to my Dad for his birthday (birth year wine for him). This was, in a word, magnificent. My expectations were quite low given the 72 years of age; I was hoping for something drinkable just for the experience of it. Instead, what we found was not just a wine that was great for its age, but one that was great, period. The wine poured a very light, slightly cloudy pink color. Gorgeous notes of mushrooms and garrique on the nose. Same on the palate, plus some hints of anise and cedar. Acidity still alive and well. An amazing bottle of wine, that I would absolutely roll the dice on again (assuming I could find one). Hard to score something like this, but certainly 94+, and even higher based on the experience.

1/5/20, 7:12 AM - I didn't give it any air, for fear of having it fall apart as some older BDXs have. But it held up very well over the 30 minutes we enjoyed it, and perhaps even improved slightly after the first 10 minutes open.
