11/13/23, 6:19 AM - I hear you regarding the 2003. It’s a vintage that has left me disappointed to the point of selling what I had, and not just Cos. I know there are people who like the 2003 Cos, I just couldn’t enjoy it. It was missing all the markers I look for in a left bank Bordeaux. Thanks for the comments and I hope you are on the mend.
11/14/23, 6:12 PM - I would happily drink any vintage La Mission Haut Brion! The 1 2003 I did like was Sociando Mallet. I feel it is a difficult vintage in all of Europe, but Bordeaux has a way of straightening out with plenty of age, and drinking birth year wines with your daughter is the best reason to stick with it.
8/22/23, 4:48 AM - Beautiful Champagne that became too expensive to buy now and very small allocations. I’m just drinking what I have.
8/23/23, 2:52 AM - Well, I hope you enjoy it! All the best to you, too.
7/1/23, 12:03 PM - I love all his wines.
6/6/23, 3:56 AM - I rarely decant, preferring to follow it over a few hours just in the glass. My notes are not saying it improved with air, so I think it is your call. Decanting shouldn’t hurt. Enjoy!
3/29/23, 4:16 PM - I honestly don’t know how it will develop. It is so good now, that I wouldn’t hesitate to drink it. I also have 2 more bottles, and if I didn’t have so much wine, I’m sure I would be looking to open one soon.
1/22/23, 2:40 PM - So do I, and it’s my last vintage of Pegau. I still have 2 more bottles.
1/14/23, 7:41 PM - I love Scherrer’s Platt vineyard Pinots. I recently had the 2010 that was lovely.
1/10/23, 10:59 AM - I hope you enjoy it. I wish I had more.
12/11/22, 6:34 PM - Only an hour. I have never had such a shut down Black Cat.
11/5/22, 3:24 AM - For the most part, 2010 has been a wonderful vintage. However, a couple of very old school producers have made hard wines and I wonder if they will ever soften before the fruit fades. I liked Guillemot and Pavelot when released, but have been tough to enjoy ever since. I still have a bottle or two of each of them, and I, too, have my doubts that they will become pleasurable in my lifetime..I wouldn’t be as concerned if I was only 67 :)
7/14/22, 7:59 AM - I probably did say Felseneck - I do have some older ones - but the one I brought was the Felsenberg.
12/8/21, 5:13 AM - Notes on this have been quite disappointing. I have 2 bottles and wasn’t planning on opening one anytime soon, but it almost sounds like it doesn’t have the structure to age and improve. Do you think there is an upside to holding a little longer?
5/19/21, 11:48 AM - Probably just an isolated case, but disappointing nevertheless. They offered to replace it.
5/18/21, 9:14 AM - The note in 2017 was my last 2009. Something went wrong there with a bunch of bottles. Maybe these had faulty corks. Apparently, there was some very good ones based on other CT notes.
1/27/21, 4:45 AM - No rush, but I think it’s a good time to be drinking it. It held nicely overnight.
12/30/20, 7:46 PM - It’s really pretty now, and I wouldn’t hesitate to open another, but I can see the benefit of waiting.
7/15/20, 5:55 AM - My favorite rose, but ‘18 is really special.
7/12/20, 2:05 PM - It seems to be progressing nicely, but there is no rush.
7/9/20, 6:38 PM - Yes, I agree. I like everything I’ve had from Vincent.
1/24/20, 3:06 AM - The cork broke and I, too, had to filter, but I only decanted as long as it took me to strain the top half of the wine. I think it could last another 4 years, but it is always a crap shoot with older wines. I think it is worth the risk.
1/24/20, 5:35 AM - It’s a Durand you want. I have one but foolishly didn’t use it. Good luck. I hope it shows well when you have it.
10/24/19, 4:17 PM - I mentioned butterscotch but there was nothing that indicated premox, which for me is more apple. I loved the wine. Butterscotch is something I get from young white Burgs, but not Chablis, and that’s why I mentioned it.
10/14/19, 5:32 AM - Yes, I agree.
9/19/19, 1:12 PM - I think this has a lot of people wondering. I don’t know of anyone who has tasted the 2013s.
10/2/19, 1:42 PM - Yep, I already placed my order.
7/10/19, 5:35 PM - Instead of being vibrant, as I would expect, it appeared tired and older. I have had the 2014 Alpine Chardonnay out of a .750 and it was electric and strong on citrus, and other .375s of the Horseshoe. None showed like this one. It was drinkable but not what I wanted.
4/11/19, 6:10 AM - Same with me. I have low expectations for my third.
3/17/19, 3:11 PM - Hi Jenise. I recently had 2 1996 left banks that showed well and felt it was time to start dipping my toes. I only have 1 GL, so maybe I'll keep my hands off this one.
9/30/18, 7:44 PM - I like Val Vilaine and have been buying it for years. My first Ursules, and don't feel it is worth the extra money for this one.
1/27/18, 7:09 PM - Thank you for your comment, but I don't necessarily agree. Produttori's single vineyard Barbaresco have crept up in price, and I would much prefer to drink anyone of those over this Conterno. It was too ripe without enough structure. I don't know what a couple of years will do. I am not anti Conterno, as I have a bunch in my cellar, but I am not a fan of this wine.
12/10/17, 10:32 AM - I hope that was an off bottle. I have a few of these. I loved your note on the 2004 Pegau Laurence. I'm taking the base '04 Pegau to dinner tonight.Happy holidays, Jenise.
12/1/17, 3:31 AM - Regarding Rhys Chards, I have only enjoyed Alpine and Horseshoe. I find them more like Chardonnay from Burgundy than California, and think they are stunning. I have a couple of Bearwallow Chards coming, so I'll see how they compare.
10/13/17, 3:38 AM - This is not easy to find here in the States, but I did manage to just get 1 more bottle.
8/25/17, 2:17 PM - I always drink them upon release, but felt it would improve if given a year. I liked this one even more the second day.
6/16/17, 8:56 AM - I don't disagree with you, but I like them both. I made the comparison because I recently opened the 2009 Alpine and found the similarity striking. The same could be said for their Syrah and those from the Northern Rhone. I probably buy 2 Rhys for every 10 St. Joseph, Cote Rotie, and Cornas.
5/12/17, 7:21 AM - I am so sorry about the loss of your wife. I look forward to "seeing" you here and chatting about the local food scene, and sharing wine notes.
5/6/17, 8:20 PM - Hi Mike, and yet, I believe we say the same thing!
2/3/17, 3:08 AM - It wasn't my favorite Produttori, and I generally enjoy the basic Barbaresco - this one was soft with some VA, but it was fine with food.Ha, Italian takeout out here means there is one on every block. No shortage, but we have our favorites. Perfect on a Saturday when we both work and don't feel like cooking or going out.
2/4/17, 5:59 AM - I'll be interested in hearing your take on it. I didn't find the structure that is present in other vintages. Do you have any single vineyards from 2008? Somehow, I missed out. I failed to post a note on a recent 1996 Produttori Montestefano that was fantastic.
1/9/17, 4:41 AM - I thought the 2011 was the best young Barolo I have ever had. Yesterday, I was searching for a 2011 Mascarello but couldn't locate it, so I pulled this one-somehow I missed 2006, but I have a bunch of 2007-2012. We met the family when we were there in 2008, and I brought this bottle back - they are lovely and make such pure wines. A little remains in the bottle and I am anxious to see how it held up.
12/6/16, 3:49 AM - I very much agree with your commentary on the price of Napa Cabs. I signed up for this list but never ordered. My list of regular Napa purchases is very small, and I love the old stalwarts, several of which I still have, so it was an easy decision to skip this. Still, I enjoy reading about this wine. What do you think is the reason your wife gets a migraine from US Cabs? Higher alcohol?
9/23/16, 1:06 PM - Hi Jenise, nice to see your note. I have a couple of these and I have been impatiently waiting on them. I think I will open one when the weather cools down.
8/30/16, 7:51 PM - It was unusual for me to open a 2004 - but circumstances led me to open it. I am mostly drinking 1980s and 1990s. I don't have a read on the vintage yet.
8/4/16, 5:40 AM - I am becoming more disappointed with the LI dining scene. After reading a favorable review in Newsday, Autentico was on my short list of places to try, but it is now scratched. We tend to stick with just a few favorites that are consistently good, but I am always on the lookout for a promising new place.
8/5/16, 10:02 AM - We probably should share our list of excellent and byo friendly restaurants. I would start with the best for byo, Kitchen A Bistro. We don't go as often as we used to but we go quite a bit. After that, my favorite is Lake House in Bayshore.
5/27/16, 3:20 AM - I agree it is special, and I did not expect it to be drinking that beautifully. It was the purity and balance that struck me more than anything.
3/10/16, 2:00 PM - I'm wondering what you consider Nassau County's best Italian restaurant. I live in Suffolk County, but we meet friends at Stresa in Manhasset and de Meo in Roslyn.
1/16/16, 7:20 PM - Dave - I don't drink a lot of young California Cabs but one I can wholeheartedly recommend is EMH Black Cat. If you get on the mailing list, it is released to us at $70 before it jumps a few dollars when it is officially released to the public. It is an elegant and lovely Cab. My guilty pleasure Cab is Maybach, and I have been buying a few each year since 2005, but I tend to reach for Black Cat a lot more.
1/17/16, 7:41 AM - Dave, full disclosure is I've become friends with the winery owner, but I would still be a fan of Black Cat Cabs and I describe them as bold but elegant with a good core of fruit. Looking at your tasting notes, I think you will also be fan of the wines. Feel free to mention my name if you sign up!
6/6/15, 3:09 AM - Thanks. I see you also enjoy choosing a wine to pair well with your food.
5/15/15, 6:54 PM - I also love the vintage and I was in Burgundy and tasted them out of barrel. A few 2010s that were shut down were Jadot Corton Charlemagne, Clos des Lambrays and Guillemot Jarrons, and that is what I meant by misses in the vintage. I was catching them at the wrong time.
6/16/14, 4:45 AM - It was lovely.
9/1/13, 10:52 AM - Bob, I didn't decant but I would recommend doing so. I had the waiter pour it into our glasses while we were sipping Prosecco when we first arrived just to give it some air. It could use an hour or two in the decanter.
Thanks for letting us know about this problem. We will review your comments and be in touch soon with an update.
