5/3/24, 7:40 AM - No hurry to drink this ;)
4/28/24, 1:51 AM - Good old school Chianti Classico indeed does need some time ;)
4/1/24, 12:55 AM - Actually for a wine in this style (vin de voile/non-ouillé) the oxidation-aspect is very mild. Most wines of this type have a (much) more pronounced oxidative-character.
3/4/24, 6:10 AM - We had a simular experience in our wineclub (was served blind).
12/10/23, 4:27 AM - Thanks for your comment! It's not only an issue with my bottles, my friends suffer(ed) from the same issue. It was only after 5 - 7 years after the purchases that I frequently started drinking the wines and the problem arose, in the meantime I had bought a lot of bottles from them. Last years I buy from 50secondfinish and very happy about the service and I didn't experience one flawed bottle up to now.
10/15/23, 2:08 AM - :D I drink so much Sangiovese that it has become a sort of automatic switch in my brain when starting to type a grape that starts with 'Sa'. It is Savagnin of course, it is also one of my favorite grapes ;)
6/28/23, 8:43 AM - Unfortunately I have to agree with Vinogan(s). I have lost count of the Felsina bottles from Xtrawine that went down the drain (I guess around 20).
5/23/23, 1:03 PM - I stopped buying there years ago (as soon as the abnormal number of flawed bottles became evident), but I still have to suffer a bit, fortunately my stock from them is almost finished (still some expensive Barolo to go, so fingers crossed).
5/6/23, 3:16 AM - wrong click ;)
3/31/23, 10:55 AM - Storage at home is no issue : at a constant temperature of 12 °C. And I have consumed (much) older Bordeaux that I had stored here for (+)15 years that were in excellent shape. Main bunch of flawed bottles came from Superiore.de (my friends who bought there suffer from the same issue), also Tacos (shop in Belgium) gave a very poor result. I was a big fan of Felsina, so I bought really a lot of bottles (Superiore and Xtrawine) but with very poor results. The strange thing is that the other bottles from Xtrawine perform very good. I only order wines when outside temperatures are OK. I also had poor results with bottles bought at the biggest wine auction in Belgium (Sylvies), as a young starter I thought it was a good idea to find there 'big' bottles that were in their drinking window, but this clearly was a bad idea as you don't have an idea about the storage conditions.
4/24/23, 7:01 AM - Thanks sfwinelover1 for your comment. I (and my friends) realize that the better range of Felsina wines should be cellared a long time. But this resulted in close to 100% 'down the drain'. Now, by drinking them (too) young we can enjoy it for 15 minutes or so before the oxidation puts in. It is always a problem of oxidation.
3/27/23, 9:21 AM - Last years I only buy/transport bottles during winter time and shortly after the bottles are released at the winery (I had way too many bottles with heat dammage).
12/31/22, 1:48 AM - The Arabesque was best just after uncorking, fruit-forward, but will benefit from 2 years or so in the cellar. The amount of alcohol in the Vincila 2019 bothered me a bit and I'm not 100% sure that it will completely integrate. Very curieus about Vincila 2020, if the alcohol is just a fraction lower it could be spot on.
12/31/22, 11:04 AM - I follow the wines of Domaine Montvac already many years ;) I like their style and approach.
11/13/22, 11:30 AM - Thanks for the comment! And a pitty that my impression seems to be right for this wine.
11/8/22, 12:49 PM - Je viens de déguster une bouteille. Je trouve que donner un score de 69 est incompréhensible. C'est un exemple fantastisque d'un vin de Savagnin ouillé.
5/6/22, 9:22 AM - My first series of bad Fèlsina bottles came from Superiore.de. The second load came from Xtra wine (Italy). The latest purchases came from 50second-finish.de (but those are not in their drinking window yet). From Superiore I had lots and lots of bad wines, but not from Xtra wine, there's only an issue with Fèlsina. PS : a wine buddy just had 3 flawed Rancia's 2015 in a row (Xtra wine).
7/1/22, 2:16 PM - My series of bad bottles from them are mainly from there starting period. The same issue is present among my friends and the abnormal amount of bad bottles from Superiore was also an issue on the local wineforum in Flanders. Now they claim that the bottles are stored at a correct temperature but I bought a lot of somewhat older Brunello from them were I hit close to 100% oxidized bottles. Once the row of bad bottles started I immediately stopped buying there. But hopefully nowadays there storage is OK and glad to hear that you had better luck! I also think that they changed their businessmodel with more direct purchases from the wineries, resulting in more controllable transportchain.
6/5/22, 3:53 AM - 90% of our Felsina bottles (my buddies in the wineclub suffer from the same issue) go down the drain, always with fast oxidation. I have bought a lot from Xtrawine and with their other bottles I had no problems. The Felsina purchases were spread over 8 or 10 times (never during Summer), so one or two heat-transports can't be the reason. If a Felsina bottle performs as it should, I really like it by the way.
5/28/22, 12:44 PM - Hello, did you also taste the 2016? And if 'yes' : how does it compare to it?
5/28/22, 1:51 PM - I bought some 2018 bottles after recently having tasted their 2016 which was stunning. So I wonder if the 2018 will perform at the same level. The 2016 tasted still young so I'm a bit reluctant of already opening a 2018. 2017 was a heat vintage and it wouldn't come as a surprise that it tasted differently.
3/17/22, 11:44 AM - Their 2000 was the best vintage from them in my opinion.
3/28/22, 9:48 AM - Thanks for your comment! They did a large scale replanting programm in the '80 and '90. A lot of wines 'suffer' from the influence from a couple of people who indeed like wood, extraction and overripe stuff :(
3/26/22, 2:07 AM - I have drunk quite a lot of GCC 2005 (but not at the level of Ducru, Montrose, Pichon-Baron... for those it is really too early). In this wine I'm not sure that the quality of the grapes is there to give it a long cellar life. And if the quality of the grapes would have been better, they didn't had to use all that wood to shift the focus from the fruit towards the wood I feel.
3/26/22, 12:00 PM - In Montalcino there is indeed a big difference in style between old school and modern approach. I prefer the first option!
2/9/22, 12:48 AM - I know :\ but it is only after several years that you 'discover' this of course. I like to drink my bottles in their mature stage. I store them at 12 °C and only buy them when transport temperatures are okay, so the storage issue is placed before my purchases. I don't buy anymore at Superiore.de and Delta Fijne Wijnen (Belgium). With Xtrawine in Italy I only had bad experiences with Felsina, but I have bought really a lot of bottles. My friends suffer from the same issue with purchases from Superiore.de and Felsina bottles from Xtrawine.
1/30/22, 10:49 AM - Some local stores would indeed refund it (Licata e.g.), but I have bought them in a big webshop in Italy, so very little chance on a refund I'm afraid.
1/27/22, 2:46 AM - Hello, thanks for your comment. The tannins weren't an issue (for me). I think that 2012 in general is not a vintage to keep for a very long time in your cellar. It was drunk over a 2 day period.
1/10/22, 11:24 AM - Indeed : drinking this wine has become a great pleasure!
12/29/21, 10:41 AM - I have the impression that this wine is now slightly past its prime ;) and as you mentioned : indeed the acidity is remarkable.
11/12/21, 10:21 AM - I completely agree with your assessment
10/14/21, 10:50 AM - Thanks for the excellent tasting note!!! I completely agree :)
5/2/21, 11:24 AM - I drank it over two evenings with two different meals ;) It really had a 'wrong' acidity. It was my only bottle, so I can't giving it second try :\.
6/25/20, 9:12 AM - Last week I had my fourth bottle of this wine (from 3 different stores) and they all ended up in the sink. The last bottle was 'the best one' and was more or less drinkable but scoring around 80 with lots of alcohol, boiled fruits, toast, paprika giving a very hot impression. They were all consumed blindly in the wineclub over the last 18 months or so with an unanimous judgement : this wine is really not OK. Did we have 4 flawed bottles in a row (but from stores in different countries seems unlikely) or has Pintia a style that we really can't appreciate? > puzzling :\
4/12/21, 10:57 AM - Hello Zweder, that's excellent news! I really regret that I have not tasted the potential of this wine, but fortunately for you we just had a run of bad luck in our wineclub.
1/25/21, 10:32 AM - What a QPR! Thanks for the tip, I want more of these!
11/6/20, 2:47 AM - Of course I didn't expect a light and super fresh wine ;) but an Amarone can deliver more than stewed fruits and raisins. And in any type of wine the acidity is a crucial factor I feel, but that was fine in this one.
11/7/20, 2:23 AM - Hello Mark, I have made the same transition with only 1 Amarone left in my cellar, and also far less Rhône wines lately. I like Italian wines now with a preference for wines with rather fresh fruits and relatively high acids such as Tenuta Monteti, Fontodi and Felsina.
11/8/20, 2:55 AM - Altesino and Tignanello are great wines! For the moment +50% of my cellar is filled with wines from Tuscany. The transport of Sangiovese wines to the States is a bit tricky I feel, they don't like high temperatures. But if you avoid a transport in the Summer you should be fine. All wines from Fontodi, Felsina and Altesino in 2015 and especially 2016 should be great. Concerning Bordeaux-blends you have to try the 2015 vintages from Tenuta Monteti: their QPR is simply outstanding. I have little experience with American wines, but I have drunk a few :)
10/29/20, 8:45 AM - You are welcome. This wine is in its drinking window and will no longer improve with further cellaring I feel.
11/8/20, 2:48 AM - Thanks for the note, I still own one bottle of 2012, I won't wait too long before drinking this one.
10/12/20, 4:00 AM - Thanks for your comment. It was my last bottle. I find 2009 in general a very difficult vintage concerning drinking window.
9/26/20, 3:36 PM - Opened my last bottle this evening, but unfortunately it suffered from oxidation.
7/28/20, 3:17 AM - It will become a bit softer I think, but this doesn't automatically means that it will also be better. I think concerning scoring it is at its peak. But a lot of good 2006 wines from Italy have an excellent aging potential, so no hurry to drink this.
7/23/20, 10:18 AM - We are 2020 so a good moment to taste this Clos du Marquis 2008. A soft wine in which the oak is completely integrated. The acidity is rather high for a Bordeaux, together with the fruit delivering freshness. It performed better than expected and scoring 90.
6/25/20, 8:14 AM - The acidity is indeed extreme, it would have scored 1 or 2 points higher without it.
5/1/20, 9:51 AM - Now at its peak, as you predicted, and I completely agree with your score!
5/2/20, 11:21 AM - I'm missing the tastings with my winebuddies. But this afternoon I pruned some 220 vines at Wijndomein Wetterberghe to remain in 'wine-mode'.
4/2/20, 11:29 AM - Yes, it showed some improvement in the glass, not something you would expect in a corked bottle. It is not a bad wine but not at the level you expect from Pontet-Canet. It remains a basic Bordeaux in a way. PS : I'm a fan of this house ;)
3/23/20, 11:24 AM - still firm tannin ;)
3/22/20, 11:29 AM - I agree with you : the green (unripe) notes also bothered me.
3/20/20, 3:37 AM - "90+. Potential for a bit more." > indeed : 91 :)
3/21/20, 5:37 AM - My girlfriend is a pharmacist. So she is very bussy and is very liable to being infected. Resulting in stressy times here. Take care and stay healtly!
2/17/20, 9:31 AM - It was pop and pour, starting at 12 °C. I gave it 45 minutes in the glass in the hope to see some improvement.
11/26/19, 4:55 AM - Hello Zweder, I only have one bottle of this wine. Better wait a bit you think?
11/26/19, 6:22 AM - thx for the input, much appreciated!
11/10/19, 4:38 AM - I think the fruit is now showing at its max. It is juicy and not in a closed faze, so if you want to a pop a bottle I don't see anything against it. Will it get better? I don't think so, the bitterness was maybe a touch too sharp (but still very moderate for a Bordeaux in that price range) but with food this wine performed very well. No hurry to drink this, but if you like abundant and crisp fruits (which are very fresh considering the hot vintage) drink it now.
10/27/19, 12:47 PM - My first impression was exactly the same, scoring it 87 with a rather poor QPR. I didn't look forward to having this wine again in the glass. But immediately it displayed a more complex and more balanced showing.
10/14/19, 6:49 AM - I have put 19 Brunello's in a row down the drain. +90% of them came from Superiore and I have stored them correctly at 12 °C and I have no issues with wines coming from other stores.
9/19/19, 10:01 AM - A Brunello can offer a stunning experience, but it is a very delicate juice that has to be transported and conserved with great care. Hopefully you will soon experience a great glass of Brunello!
6/10/19, 2:45 AM - The heavy oak also bothered me.
6/10/19, 2:41 AM - I completely agree with your 92 score, showed very well and still fresh/young
12/16/18, 7:33 AM - what would you give as an advice concerning the drinking window?
12/19/18, 10:33 AM - thanks for the input, I have 1 bottle at home
Thanks for letting us know about this problem. We will review your comments and be in touch soon with an update.
