I saved this wine for a future birthday dinner that occurred 2 days ago and I was expecting wayyy more for this wine. The body is medium plus, super high in acidity and lacking harmony between oak fruit and tannin.

10/2/20, 7:23 AM - Sounds like it may be in a backwards, shut down phase. I would guess it will be much better in 5-10 years.

Drank with wine group. My second favorite of the evening. Bold fruit. Integrated and balanced. Sorry I don't have more of this. My last of 9 bottles. Drink or hold.

Light gold color. Opened this for our 35th Anniversary. Split bottle over 3 hours plus. Beautiful and seamless; wonderfully toasted, brioche, pear and fine lemons, creamy mousse, roasted nuts, lightly chalky minerality. Quite elegant and a long finish. My wife always being more generous, scored this a point or two higher. I wil not be arguing with her. A great bottle on a special day. 96-K, 98-V.

This was in the dead zone, colour all wrong brownish and wine hate left overs of quality only, I shudder because I have 10 bottles to go, I hope it’s an aberration, and my disappointment made deeper by having a great 07 a few days before

4/12/19, 10:17 PM - I had one of these several months ago and it was sublime. Fresh and bursting from the glass with wonderful aromas. I would guess just a bad bottle. Hopefully the rest of the lot is much better. Cheers!

Pretty stinky and earthy on day one. Kept on mellowing out. Even at nine years, I guess I would give it longer and further still.

1/21/19, 3:35 PM - My experiences with the 2010's have been the same. Need several more years imo.

HDH December auction; 12/13/2018-12/15/2018 (Chicago, IL): Everything about this wine is great until the finish. The nose shows a touch of sulphur, but the palate is incredibly rich and broad, with great intensity. However, the back end is where this wine suffers a bit, showing tons of acid and sourness on the finish.

12/14/18, 3:24 PM - Couldn't agree more with your note. Have one more bottle that I'm going to wait on for awhile. Hopefully the acidity calms down a bit.

Over the hill. Toasted. Major dissapointment considering I've had it for eight years in my cellar.

9/16/18, 6:57 AM - Thanks Silveroak7. I'm sure I had a bad bottle. That is what the "toasted" comment was in my note. Tasted like it had been exposed to too much heat. Cheers!

Amazing. Decanted for an hour and drank over 4. At the end, not big. But it’s a fine line to get there. And, this is a great big Pinot! Two more years for the last one sounds good..

6/25/18, 1:46 PM - I have a magnum of this that I'm debating opening in the next year or so. Curious if you have any other history with this vintage?

Flickinger Tasting at The Casino (Chicago, IL): I love this estate, but this version of the wine is but a weedy wreck. It's thin and emaciated, with just a whole lot of acid and tannin. The finish has an unpleasant drying sensation. Where happened here? There's only upside to aging this, because it's pretty bad right now.

The fruit here is much riper than I would expect from a Ridge estate Cabernet, and the oak is prominent. Purple fruits with cherry accents, sweet herbs, spice and tobacco showed on the nose. On the palate, it was silky in texture with concentrated black fruits, plum verging on prune with a sweet herbal mix. Brisk acidity and a bit of green tannin showed on the finish. I wanted more austerity here, but this vintage came across as very ripe. Considering the notes from other tasters here, I'll keep my mind open to tasting again.

11/11/17, 4:07 PM - I've tasted this several times and IMO it needs at least five years and probably 10 to come together unfortunately. The pieces seem to be there for something really good down the road.

This is still a solid 93+ and on its way up. Has traded in its thick p-coat for a suit but still has all the muscle underneath. Its far more elegant, refined, and sexy, while youthful and light on its feet. This is shaping up and shedding fat. I like it now with lots of air, and again, I think that this is very much in line with the 1996 vintage at this stage...can drink but I still think its a strong Hold

10/4/17, 6:47 PM - Thanks for the note. I had several of these over the last five years thinking they'd be entering a good drinking window only to be disappointed. Never been a bad bottle, just underwhelming. I'll wait another year or two to drink my last bottle.

Drank over 4 hours. Kept improving in the glass. Medium bodied, slightly dusty, lush black fruits, fine tannins, medium + finish. This was just starting to show its identity in hour 4.
  • hawkeye54 commented:

5/30/15, 6:28 AM - The tannins were not too much. There was much pleasure to be had after 3-4 hours of air time. I buy wine for a restaurant so I was doing "quality control". Have to make sure I know what I'm talking about. :)

Too sweet for my liking. Hopefully this will show more structure later in life. Tasted a lot like the 2011 Caymus.
  • hawkeye54 commented:

4/10/14, 2:40 PM - That's the plan. I've got a few more so we'll hold on to 'em for a bit. This was pretty surprising considering the 2010 vintage. Thanks Barry!

Decanted four hours. Dark red color with a little orange rim. Tart cherry nose with a little earthy background. Same tart cherries on the palate with a bit of leather and spicy oak. Finish was ok. I drank this over three days and I would say that the second and third day showed more fruit and smooth tannins than the first, without losing any appealing qualities. It's enjoyable now but I would hold on to a bottle or two for a few years if possible.
