8/15/23, 7:53 PM - Please note that the Castiglione bottling is not a single vineyard bottling for Vietti, but a blend of their single vineyards and it is their entry level Barolo. And an excellent and dependable entry level Barolo, imho. Thanks for sharing your note on the wine!
4/26/23, 7:38 AM - I chose not to give wines a numerical score. But if I did, I think 93pts would be fair for this wine. I did indeed really enjoy this bottle. I saw it on the wine list and with all I've heard of the producer, was what I wanted to order. But before I said that, I/we also asked the Somm for a recommendation and thankfully we were all on the same page, as she also suggested the Gonon. My note above was the 'in the moment' thoughts on the wine. My 'search these out' comment was indeed a reference to the mushrooms and not the wine, but the comment could also be applied to the wines of Pierre Gonon, which are, a bit more difficult to find than the mushrooms.
4/26/23, 4:46 PM - Not at all, I appreciate your excitement around such a great producer
1/10/23, 3:31 PM - I dont have the bottle in front of me, but perhaps you had a different Disznoko than the Eszencia 2005 From the previous distributors website…’ The memory of the vintage – a legendary wine of Tokaj. Eszencia is a free-flowing nectar pressed from aszú berries under their own weight. A unique nectar that is mentioned in the Hungarian national anthem. Eszencia was sold in pharmacies due to its beneficial effect on health. It contains a mere 1 to 3% alcohol’That being said, an outstanding example of he style/region, worth searching out.
1/11/23, 8:56 AM - I see the image. Don’t know what to tell you…upside is, the wine is excellent.
9/1/22, 6:02 PM - Land O Lakes before the logo change. Very nice
11/27/21, 6:38 PM - Thanks for the note and the detail, always appreciate the insight. Looking forward to my next bottle.
10/25/21, 6:36 PM - Specifically, which Will Ferrell movie(s) does this wine evoke for you? Asking as someone who enjoys wine and music pairings as much as wine and food pairings.
10/23/21, 8:37 AM - Thanks for the comment, just did a little taste last evening to get the bottle open and rolling for a harvest dinner tonight, more to follow.
8/28/21, 5:43 AM - The pairing was really more about the sweetness from the ground cherries, with the cherry tomato in the mix playing a supporting role. Simple and surprising.
12/23/20, 11:17 AM - Thanks for the note. Not sure how that got on there as I don’t generally leave numeric scores alongside my notes. Must have bumped the # toggle. The score is now deleted.
11/11/20, 7:53 PM - I’d a bought those 08s from ya, next time, I guess...
8/8/20, 11:41 AM - OH YEAH!!! (Kool-Aid Man smashes through a brick wall)
2/27/20, 11:13 AM - My note refers to the fact that in 2015 they started using an optical sorter during harvest. And that then affects the wine that I was tasting at the time, the 2017. Thanks for your note.
10/11/19, 4:54 AM - The 89 wasn’t supposed to be there. I took it off. Had this wine with dinner last night, along with 2010 Vietti Villero. If I were to give it points, this would solidly be a 95.
9/26/19, 4:11 AM - I’m right there with you on that observation. To many more Dolcetto!
9/15/19, 1:21 PM - Good eye. thanks.
9/4/19, 8:40 AM - 2014 is a very good Beaujolais vintage and given the more robust style of Mommessin, this should be settling into the pocket and drinking very nicely right now.
9/2/19, 12:31 PM - Thanks. A/A stood a little taller than the A/M. A/M is just Cyclades and not Santorini PGI if I heard right, as not all this is coming from solely Santorini. With the prices going up drastically for Santorini, a wine like this was bound to happen.
4/20/19, 7:57 PM - One of the best spots in which i’ve ever found a bottle of Vietti. 16 years from vintage, brilliant fruit and a seeming long way to go still. ‘03, maybe not the top vintage, but this really shining right now.
3/8/19, 3:47 AM - That’s the number of barrels that they made of ChocolateBlock in that year. I found it kind of funny that they update this on each vintage, like it makes it seem boutique/small production in some way. When it’s actually over half a million bottles. All the same, I quite enjoy the wine.
2/6/19, 9:32 AM - It was very good. Although, I’d be hard pressed to give any wine 98-100pts. It was the star of the line up and as it’s an estate site, this is the wine I’d jump all over.
1/29/19, 9:45 AM - This 2014 Roth was the top. Blaufasser was nice, but Roth warned it
1/7/19, 5:52 PM - Oh my. That. Wine. Is. Jammin.
12/21/18, 8:30 PM - Do tell...
11/27/18, 9:57 AM - Yes, Petite Sirah. A representative from the winery talked about the Petite Sirah in the blend.
10/28/18, 4:40 PM - What doesn’t she like about it?
9/28/18, 4:28 AM - To clarify, the producer is in Utah, but the grapes for this cuvee come from a vineyard in Mendocino CA. It’s my understanding that they’re waiting for their plantings in Utah to mature.
8/30/18, 7:40 PM - You said all that, whilst, shredding some Bryan Adams on Air Guitar.
8/7/18, 4:48 AM - Billowy, like puffy clouds. This was a softer expression than the 2015. I have not had any he 2014.
7/17/18, 7:27 PM - It’s been in the US since the 2014 vintage, although very small production means you must hunt it down. I’ve got some ‘14 and eyeing up some 2016s as we speak.
7/9/18, 8:32 PM - Hold on there ‘lil cowboy...
7/1/18, 7:01 PM - Great reference points. Love the note. Thank you.
5/22/18, 3:28 PM - You must have had a flawed bottle, the 2005 vintage was released less than 2 years ago and should drink well for 10 more years or so, IMHO.
4/20/18, 7:48 AM - Agreed, looking back at purchase prices, I was paying $35-40 for the 2006-2008 and then just bought some 2015 earlier this week at $68/b... I’d say the price increase has been warranted given the quality in the bottle, but yes, I’d obviously rather pay $35 than $68...
4/5/18, 10:43 AM - A man with a vision!!
2/24/18, 5:50 AM - I didnt get the whole story. Todd was Bibianna’s understudy and has been at Wayfarer a while and because of that the suggestion was a smooth transition.
2/9/18, 5:14 PM - Lots of blackberry and fruit spice. Eucalyptus is called out, but I find it as more blackberry spice than Euc.
2/1/18, 5:57 PM - Please note that a wine’s acidity doesn’t change much with age. Our perception of it may due to other factors as wine ages. From Decanter - Jim Boyce, Wolverhampton, asks: Can you settle an argument about acidity and wine age? A friend says that acidity will remain constant, but I say that it will soften. Who is right?Stephen Skelton MW, for Decanter, replies: In technical terms, the level of acidity in bottled wine remains almost constant with age. But that’s not to say that the perception of acidity on your palate does not change.Esters can alter our perception of sharpness – they are compounds formed during ageing, due to the reaction between alcohol and acid in the wine. Tannins and phenolics are also responsible for making a wine taste harsh, and these will drop out as sediment as a wine ages and help to soften a wine’s taste.Or Wikipedia - During the aging process, the perception of a wine's acidity may change even though the total measurable amount of acidity is more or less constant throughout a wine's life. This is due to the esterification of the acids, combining with alcohols in complex array to form esters. In addition to making a wine taste less acidic, these esters introduce a range of possible aromas. Thanks for the note!
2/2/18, 4:33 AM - For sure. Sounds like we’re on the same page with this one. All the best!
1/14/18, 7:37 AM - Just to be clear, this is not at all an orange wine. For white wines at Lopez de Heredia (from their website) ‘it is undesirable that the must should be in contact with skins.’ Thanks for the note, and glad you had such a great experience with the ‘96!
1/10/18, 4:04 PM - Does that mean that your tasting note is just someone else’s score? I’d rather hear what you have to say.
12/14/17, 8:34 PM - You have summed prett-ay nicely.
11/27/17, 2:27 PM - Thanks for the note on the ‘09. Yes, more life left indeed. I’d give it another 10-15 at least. I’ve got some ‘69s that are still a pleasure to drink. And while I do like CCR, this ain’t that, but a CRR.
10/18/17, 6:46 PM - Tight and forever, perhaps.
10/6/17, 9:10 AM - Not everything can be 1977 Hanzell Estate Pinot Noir...
9/14/17, 2:32 PM - Thanks for your note, I'd have to encourage you to give this wine signicantly more time, as I find it to have not even entered its drinking window yet. When I had a bottle last year, it was obtuse and dense for the first couple days open and then really blossomed on Day 3. Vintages (various) from the late 60s-the early 90s of Bucerchiale/Riserva are drinking wonderfully. This wine is one of my faves but generally needs 8+ years to really emerge, then drinks well for another 20-30 years.
8/23/17, 6:33 PM - Let me re-phrase that, 90 with nice potential. Without Buena Vista having a track record for this wine, I want a few more years in bottle to really assess. Your thoughts?
8/11/17, 10:41 AM - Please note that not all Pierre Peters wines are exclusively Chardonnay. They also make a Rosé (NV Rosé Albane) that includes approximately 40% Pinot Meunier. Love the wines and thanks for the note.
8/1/17, 8:30 PM - That is one tasty note.
6/13/17, 7:15 PM - As in, you're having at at TDS right now? Or, since it's there...? If you're there didn't give me notice that you're in town, you're on notice. It was a library release and a very modest price, lots in stock! Hit me up when you're in Chicago next!
5/13/17, 2:08 PM - My 08 Crooner PN Vecino Vineyard are still drinking great. Same wine, new name every vintage. Probably my favorite domestic PN. Best value for sure.
4/13/17, 8:06 PM - Only 500ml is my understanding. 7000 bottles of 500ml. They make so little wine that 500ml means they can make 'more bottles.'
Thanks for letting us know about this problem. We will review your comments and be in touch soon with an update.
