Medium garnet colour. Medium and developing nose with nose with ripe raspberry, red plum, ripe morello cherry, forest floor, mushrooms, black pepper, savoury, earth, potting soil and graphite. Medium taste of ripe raspberry, ripe morello cherry, red plum, forest floor, mushrooms, black pepper, savoury, potting soil and graphite. Long and dry finish. High acidity. Medium (-) tannins. Medium body. A very good Beaujolais Cru. A bit warmer than previous vintages. Drink now or over the next couple of years. Goes well with duck, poultry or veal.

5/13/24, 12:12 AM - You can keep for more than a couple of years for sure, I had amazing 10+ Côte du Py from Foillard including from warmer vintages, although I agree that it's hard to guess it'll keep so well when drinking it now (as you say Medium (-) tannins, it does not have the "classic" structure of wines that age well... but it most certainly does).
I'd actually say it's maybe the best ageing 20€ wine I have.

2017 Rippon Pinot Noir Mature Vine Lake Wanaka
Wow. What an disappointment. I am not sure it is the vintage, but this wine is soft and not in a good way, it taste like generic fruit you get from 30 dollar supermaket Pinot (with some constraint). I had Rippon in the past while it never live to its reputation but this is an total embarrassment. I bought it from a reputable retailer and properly stored.

5/13/24, 12:07 AM - Something wrong here. This is better than many burgundy villages and some 1er cru, although not from the best producers (would need a bit more concentration to compete). But the multi-layers of fruit, complexity, and a very special/pleasant length, make this a very good wine.

In general I refer to my tasting note from 15 October 2021. What's different: The color is medium ruby. Now I can find aromas and flavors of leather and menthol in addition. Today, I would say the tannins are high and silky. The acidity is also high. The body is medium. There is no need to decant. It's ready to drink with at least a decade ahead of it. Glass I used: Riedel Old World Syrah

5/10/24, 12:23 AM - I disagree on the "no need to decant" part, a few months ago I've opened 2, the first one was a good wine but with no true personality, nothing unique. The second bottle that was decanted was amazing.

Too light, even after some air. I usually love Completer but this one lacks almost everything, no personality, no intensity, no length.. you feel some complexity but it's so light that you find no definition.

Maybe my bottle was faulty, but doesn't seem so (no oxidation, etc.)

4/8/24, 4:17 AM - Mmmm it means my bottle had a problem then (came directly from domaine and stored professionally but you never know). I don't have any other 2018, but I have a couple 2019 that I'll try to compare.
But the bottle I had definitely didn't have markers of vins de macération (bitterness, complexity, tannins, intensity..) which is weird as well.

No detailed tasting notes as one knows what he's looking for in those wines. I'm a lover of vin sous voile especially with good French cheese, and for me Macle was unbeatable (for his Chaton-Chalon and Savagnin Tradition). Had low expectations as I've been pretty disappointed so far with Aviet's Trousseau, Poulsard, Melon à queue rouge, ... Well this one is just mind-blowing, beats Macle's Tradition by a notch, it's already incredibly well integrated, and sure more years will make it even better especially on the nose, but it's just amazing.
The greatness of this wine for the price point, if you find it, just don't hesitate one second... drink it alone or pair it with Roquefort, Stilton, Comté, Camembert, ...

Bottle in perfect condition, perfect fill, perfect cork. Bottle opened 7 hours in advance and checked every 2h, which is what it needed (4-6h is good if filled mid-neck).
Very nice color, pure shining red with discrete garnet borders, with medium+ intensity.
Nose is a bit unpleasant, making one doubt if the bottle is faulty, but it's not. Hard to identify much as it's not well defined, if you get past the old, wet cardboard smell, you identify some red fruit and the classic aged Bordeaux palette: leather, mushroom, wet forest...
Taste is far better than the nose, which is pleasant, but here again, it's "classic old Bordeaux" with hints of mushrooms and leather, unfortunately, medium-low intensity and short finish. One of the quality I noticed is the well-balanced acidity, it's really present and improving the wine.
The wine is not bad at all. But it's nothing special, there is no vintage/château personality, it's "just" an old Bordeaux, so it's good enough for me to drink with a nice meat, but I wouldn't serve this to wine-loving friends

6/13/22, 12:34 AM - It might have been TCA, but i don't think so, really 0 trace on the palate (which is possible indeed), and no smell on the cork as well... the unpleasant smell was closer to a wine that is passed is age or that was stored badly. I can't judge by only having 2 bottles, but i wouldn't suggest buying this wine at that point... I'll have a 1982 soon, much better vintage, let's see!
