2019 Myriad Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Elysian Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard St. Helena

Anyone feel the new release price on the Elysian is high along with other releases? Years past they have flown off the “shelf” with an allocation of 3 max but now with an allocation of 6, you can still buy. It never use to get to second tier allocation available. I’d love to support Mike and Leah because they are great people and at this price it’s becoming unobtainable for their long time supporters. Just me thinking this?

2019 Realm Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard Oakville

This is a much lower rating than what I expected before trying the To Kalon. The one thing I will give Realm on this bottle is that it was not a fruit bomb. It was integrated well with fruit and tannins but something was missing for me. It felt thin and it was not the complex wine I was hoping for. There was no wow effect and I certainly do not feel it's worth the $380-$450 on secondary market. I don't know if this bottle will improve or not but I'm in no rush to pop another one. Fingers crossed it improves over time.

11/19/23, 3:35 PM - Yeah, maybe too young but I gave Realm a call to ask if these 19 To Kalon's are ready to drink and they said yes. They specifically said that the 19s in general are ready to drink or you can hold them. I gave it a good decant and then let it evolve in the glass and bottle over about 6 hours and it didn't change a whole lot.

No official notes but when you only pay $60 for the quality a vintage Delamotte produces, you just win. By far the best qpr Blanc de Blanc out there.

2012 Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon Galitzine Vineyard Red Mountain
There is a bitterness dominating this wine which is unpleasant. Maybe this will go away with time, but right now this covers up the underlying flavors. Will try again in several days. Won't try another bottle for 5 years.

12/7/22, 9:18 PM - So I had a similar profile with the most recent bottle and assumed it was flawed. I noticed a little bitterness and zero structure. It's unfortunate as two of the other Galitzine 2012s I've opened were fantastic.

7 months since my last bottle and boy, did this one change its MO. Pnp into a decanter for 4 hours. Big juicy dark berry fruit and some alc upfront. Kept waiting for the green, stemmy phase to show up at 2 hours and it never did. A 96 then. Put it back in the bottle to slow ox another 30 min before taking it to our group. Tasted over 3+ hours from there. Still some tannins showing as the fruit started to descend. 95 then and lost another point with more air at the end to a 94 so I averaged my score out to a 95 for this bottle. The fruit is very good for a '17 but its best drinking window was hours 2 to 4 decanting. Amazing how 7 more months in bottle can change a wine.......maybe a reflection of these '17s? I'm of the belief that they won't improve from here, hence draining them from my cellar.

1/28/22, 4:31 PM - Have you had other 2017s? For a bottle like the Elysian I'd be shocked that it wouldn't have the potential to improve. I bought an assorted 6 pack of Mike's 2017 Myriad and you have definitely made me want to check in on one of the Cranes. Thanks,

    Tony

I’ve been buying Ontogeny the last few years and the 2018 is the least fruit forward vintage I’ve tried. We drank the bottle over 5 hours and by hour 3 it started to come around with notes of pepper, licorice and a lot of tannin. I have a few left and won’t touch another bottle for a couple years.

Decanted for 3 hours and the wine was perfectly balanced. Had with Rib Eyes and the pairing was fantastic. Glad I have two left to see how they evolve.

    9/13/20, 12:12 PM - Hi Dave,

Thanks for the note. I feel like Bevan wines drink great young and with a good decant it’s ready now. I popped a 2012 Oakville Res Wine by Bevan last summer and it was much softer than the 2016 Tench but still amazing. Maybe give it a couple more years but I thought it was already drinking well.
