Superior to the 2007 in every way. More depth in color, much more body and complexity and flavor. More tannin and acid, and could easily go another 5+ years whereas the 2007 is all it's ever going to be now.

You’ll laugh (or cry) but I had a bottle to share with friends at lunch on December 8, and it fell out of the car onto the ground and broke. I was heart broken and it was the second bottle of the same wine that suffered a similar fate at the same restaurant in the same parking lot!!! Needless to say I won’t be going there anymore ! I will say this, as I was standing above the puddle of wine, it smelled FABULOUS! Black Cherry, black currant and tobacco. I could actually smell it outside, spilled on concrete. Talk about great aromatics!! Too bad we couldn’t drink it but it smelled very good ! Highest recommendation :-)

This is a powerful wine that I would compare favorably to any Bordeaux. Dark red. Well integrated with red fruits, earth, and some spice. Long elegant finish. Beautiful with grilled steaks. Wish I had more!

Lovely, in great shape.

1/10/22, 6:58 PM - Apparently so - no quality issues on my two bottles and the corks were in decent shape, not as bad as other old Musar. I'm shocked to see in the notes how long people air these out for, though. I didn't do that though it was open for an hour or two.

I've liked this wine in the past, but I think it has already peaked and is falling off. It didn't quite come together and show me what I would have hoped for. Perhaps it's bottle variation, I'll be tasting a second one and deciding whether to dump the last or not.
  • SeattlePaul commented:

8/29/20, 9:39 PM - Since you asked, I opened one today (had two left). It was better than that last one, but now it's even older overall. I'd give it a try, we did drink it. Not spectacular but not offensive in any way.

Piles of animal, challenging to get through, but it's worth it overall.

7/2/19, 10:14 PM - In speaking with the tasting hosts at the winery, I think they would say this is more or less expected for the wines they were making back then... take it or leave it. I think it is the real reason the built the fancy new facilities. Lots of the tasting notes comment on it.

Everything in me wants to like this wine, but I just don't get what the big deal about it is (and I LOVE BdB Champagne as much as anyone). It seems very straight-forward and kind of one-note. Very disappointed with the bottle, though family at Xmas seemed to like it. So weird. Would have much rather spent the $112 on so many other wonderful Champagnes.

1/4/19, 12:54 PM - Hahaha... we opened one of these the other night and my wife said essentially the exact same thing. :/ I can see your point, it's not as dynamic and interesting as I would have liked.

Weak, watery wine with faint fruit, no discernible Cabernet or Syrah characteristics. Not a strong effort, something I'd expect more like a $10 price point, very disappointing wine. Hoping it's an off bottle, but doesn't seem overtly tainted in any way.
  • SeattlePaul commented:

10/8/14, 7:10 PM - Tend to agree that this sounds like an off bottle -- I tasted this in the summer of this year, from 375 no less, and it was doing great.

I am befuddled that this wine was written off with a "Drink by 2010." I had a bottle of this maybe 3 years ago and was not impressed. We had one tonight and it was magnificent! Black currants, tobacco, blackberries. Phillip constructed this brilliantly. If, by chance, you still have a bottle, don't worry. It's good for a couple of more years. However, it's killer now.
  • SeattlePaul commented:

7/12/14, 8:05 PM - I wouldn't put much stock in the "drink by" dates on CT, they are highly unreliable. Thanks for the review, I still have 3 of these left, good to know they're good!

Color-Obviously deep, dark, inky, purple.
Aroma-Definitely very berry: Blueberry, Blackberry, Gooseberry. All the luscious DARK Berries.
Mouthfeel-Full, pillowy like a cloud, soft, subdued, really wonderful mouthful of pleasant sensations. Very gentle on the tongue. (Decanted 2 hours)
Taste-Full, ripe fruit, deep, complex, subtle, nothing tangy, blueberry, blackberry, everything in it's place.
This is an absolutely wonderful wine that I have been hanging on to for 8+ years and is drinking fantastic right now.

Tasted vs velvet glove and I was surprised the Molly dooker was tastier. The brookman, however, offered lots of earthy and chemicals smells and flavors that made it more interesting. On balance I preferred the glove.
  • SeattlePaul commented:

12/27/13, 9:58 PM - You said, "tasted vs the glove" but this review filed for the globe seems to actually be for the brookman? :)
