Tasted at the winery in 2015. Cranberry and pomegranate. Now, at a decade, this is more subdued. The fruit has softened and, in fact, faded. The oak was always minimal, and today, non-existent. The acidity, also faded, but enough remains for it to be interesting. In the end, it was great with a very strong mushroom risotto. Was it worth the price and the hassle of storing it this long? Eh, not sure.

It never ceases to amaze me how people get blindsided by price tags. Not just because it's expensive, it's going to be great.
Dark garnet, orange rim. Lots of sediment. Long fat legs.
Powerful balsamic bouquet of barnyard, fine leather, tobacco leaf, cloves, clay and licorice.
Polished and refined. Meaty palate of sun-dried tomatos.
Velvety tannins and delicate acidity.
Medium clove finish.
Much better options for a fraction of the price.

Leflaive owns 2.75ha of Pucelles. Opulent nose of dense orchard fruits, buttery and waxy toast with subtle lifted spices. Great density and broad shouldered. Rich and energetic with superb acidity, knocking on Grand Cru doors. (89-90/100)

7/10/21, 5:24 AM - I also found this score very unhelpful and unfair to the winemaker. It is inconsistent with the review. An 89 point score for a 400 dollar wine screams do not buy this, which I don’t think is your view.

Red
2003 Château Latour Grand Vin Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend
Could not get past the barnyard smell and initial taste of this. Do not understand the stratospheric ratings.

White
2012 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses Chardonnay
NR as my wife had with her dinner friends while I was out of town

This behaved more like a $65 dollar bottle of wine.Decanted 3 hours. Just very average. Light nose of plumbs some blackberry. On the palate once again average basic flavor of red and black berries, tannins just a bit richer or creamier than your average Bordeaux. No cedar flavor. Nothing complex. One thing is for sure. I am not touching any of my remaining young 1st growths any time soon.

Herbaceous and old.

6/5/16, 11:36 AM - I believe so. Moved it from the climate controlled storage locker where it had been originally to my climate controlled cellar. The original owner was my former law partner and I doubt he ever touched them as they were w a larger batch i acquired of 89s, including Montrose and Lynch Bages that are terrific. Have had two bottles now w a consistent experience.

Fairly Merlot color. Smell of light cedar, cabernet sauvignon nose with lots of sweetness. Opened and kept in the bottle for 2hours, it became more approachable. But performance of the sample is surely not a 89 La Mission should give. It only showed a medium body with touch of acidic mid palate, finish was short and shallow. It didn't keep up for another 1.5hours.

8/25/13, 7:20 AM - Just had a remarkably similar experience and literally wondered if I'm drinking the authentic wine. Would be very interested in comparing notes. My bottle has Seagram Chateau and Estate as the importer and a 750 ML designation on the far side. foil is golden. A bottle I acquired elsewhere has a 75 cl designation on the far side and is from a DC importer. It tasted far more like the reviews suggest it should.
