While decanting the garnet color and nose scream old school Tuscany. Dried red fruits core (but with a hint of prunes), sandalwood and Tuscan spice delivered on a perfectly balanced palate with a fine but present tannic grip. Outstanding with a slow cooked pork shoulder.

Red
2013 Anderson's Conn Valley Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Reserve Napa Valley
Dark ruby. Ripe dark fruits with vanilla oak notes and earthy spiciness. medium bodied, smooth and mellow with fine tannins and a touch of sweetness. Drinking well now.

10/21/20, 5:43 AM - Note was based on PnP from a 375; however, there was some sediment so will decant future bottles.

CV. Saturated ruby. Came off a bit confected. Lively candied fruity nose, herby, earthy and a little black pepper but with an off aroma like it’s going to be fizzy on the palate. Lively on the palate but not from good acidity, suggests sweetness but it’s not; a little black licorice. overall approach is disjointed. Agree with PortlandSeth; bottle had likely undergone secondary fermentation.

1/21/19, 5:59 AM - @Portlandseth-thanks-seems to me this bottle had undergone secondary fermentation; all the material was there but it was completely out of focus. I have 5 bottles left, so I will have the opportunity to revisit.

Red
2010 Louis Jadot Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Boudots Domaine Gagey Pinot Noir
Ruby, fragrant, smooth and silky, spicey and earthy. Deep dark silky finish. To quote RP: “Tender are the nights”.

9/23/18, 12:32 PM - certainly not! thanks for the catch

2017 G.D. Vajra Moscato d'Asti
Vajra & Baudana Barolo Dinner (Ai Fiori (Langham Hotel on 5th Ave)): A lovely end to the evening. Nice and sweet. Apples and white flowers. Very easy drinking.

5/11/18, 3:15 PM - sounds like a great tasting and dinner. I dine at ai fiori often. How did you find about the tasting? is there a mailing list?

Red
2015 Domaine Bitouzet-Prieur Volnay Pinot Noir
Beautiful pale ruby. Burnt cherry, spice, earthy, ripe strawberries. Balanced with good acidity and super fine tannins that sneak in on the finish. What a deal.

5/7/18, 6:16 AM - i'll be drinking mine over the next couple of years

N.V. Bérêche et Fils Champagne Brut Réserve Champagne Blend
Pale gold w copper undertones. Yeasty, apples. Very fine abundant bubbles that lead to a somewhat gassy finish. Decant next time.
  • Eugenedinapoli commented:

4/9/18, 12:37 PM - I usually do not decant champagne. Here I was thinking decanting may help soften the overly fizzy finish.

Aromas of cherries and line-dried laundry on a warm spring day. Try to imagine that first really warm day of spring where it’s still technically winter, but flowers seem to bloom from out of nowhere, and there is that heady perfume of pollen, earth, better days to come, and the feeling that everything is possible. It smells like that feels.

Tasted pretty good too.
