Incense, wood smoke, fresh herbs, and raspberries on the nose. Palate is dominated by candied cherries over an amazingly silky texture. Balanced acidity and long finish. I wouldn’t hold this much longer, but it’s fantastic right now.

Spectacular wine at a beautiful point. Blueberry notes, and earthy, ashy, and mildly incensy notes on the nose. Palate brings out a richness and softness that carries the wine. Acidity is moderate. Tannins are fine but definitely present. Add some sweet black licorice to the palate and you have a lovely and drinkable wine. Finish is very long and brings out the acidity without ever being pushy. This is a great and enjoyable winner of a wine.

Gorgeous wine with graphite texture, earth, and black olives on the palate. This wine is deep and never ending on the finish. Ripe plums and hoisin sauce give a massive umami note. This wine could keep on evolving another ten years before declining. There’s a sweet incense on the palate. The quality is astonishing.

Startling and challenging. This wine has a creaminess that reminds me of Barossa Shiraz from its heyday. This Malbec seems to do it more naturally. Diurnal shift and all. Powerful and clean port-like quality. On the nose, there’s a big overripe blackberry note with sweet incense. Milkshake texture on the palate dominates while bringing some sweet cherry notes. It might be kirsch, but without any cloying sweetness.

When this region gets the investment it deserves, the wine will be astonishing—if they can produce enough for the international market. I’m thrilled to drink this now.

Better than I expected. Bright and silky and quaffable. In dollar terms, the QPR is fantastic. I could be happy drinking this as my local wine.

Beautiful with a graphite texture over a delicious wine. Hedonistic. After breathing this wine has an amazing incense, spice, wet earth quality on the nose. Gorgeous. Palate is graphite and just enough acidity to balance the tannins and keep it lively.

Rustic and a bit rough, but delicious. Sweet blueberry fruit and smoke carry this forward. Nose is a combination of fresh leafiness and smoke. This wine has a festive feel. It stands up to anything. Cassoulet with spices and texture—perfect. Long if gentle finish.

Beautiful wine with an elegance that comes with its age. There’s a honeyed balsamic note on the nose that is spectacular. Palate is less rustic and less tannic than I recall from nine years ago. This wine seems to float over the tongue without losing its deep balsamic notes. I’m wishing I had had this with a rosemary-infused dish.

Beautiful and balanced with spice, red fruit, and bright-but-gentle acidity, blending with a ripe rose hips note. Texture is silky graphite and hedonistic. Finish gives incense notes and doesn’t let up. Very few people will have held this wine for 17 years, but it’s amazing.

I’m a little surprised at how much I like this 19 year old wine. Acidity is bright but buffered by a gorgeous velvety texture. Blueberries, spices, incense, and melted wax on the nose. Powerful on the palate with earthy notes, especially as it breathes. Finish just won’t quit, never-ending. This is hedonistic pleasure.

Spice and strong-but-very-fine tannins dominate. Everything else is balanced and pleasant even if subdued. I suspect that this wine will blossom in another year or two. Tentative conclusion: excellent wine that needs a bit more time.

Effusive nose with wild floral notes. Body is medium with nicely balanced acidity and supple medium tannins. This is an expressive wild ride of a wine, and a lot of fun. It’s a biggish red wine that can work with hoisin sauce or hot spices. Not exactly elegant, but a lot of fun.

A pretty wine that doesn’t sacrifice power. Nose of ripe black and red fruits with incense and wet stone (or moss?). Palate brings an earthiness and rich texture without losing the prettiness. Sweet baking spices. Finish is long and gorgeous.
