3/20/24, 3:51 PM - Noooooooooooooooo :(
11/25/23, 7:29 PM - This was decanted into a small sample bottle for me and I had it a few nights later but the person took it to dinner on opening and the feedback from the table was very similar. I've had some very good bottles of the 2000 Musar as well so hopefully this bottle was just a one-off.
4/25/23, 4:14 PM - I was lucky to pick up a few of these so no regrets in opening one and getting an early look but will be aiming to put the others at the back of the cellar and forget about them for quite some time!
1/20/23, 1:19 AM - This was out of 375ml (added to note). Can't see any hurry to drink this, especially if 750ml, with some of the Zillikens I've had from the early 90s that remain so fresh - suspect this will track similarly?
10/9/22, 4:42 AM - Agreed, though I think 1-2 times a year is enough for me to get my fix!
5/6/22, 5:12 AM - How many points for the movie?
2/3/22, 4:32 PM - No problem and thanks for the additional info!
6/8/21, 4:58 AM - Thanks, after 2020 we felt like we needed to kick things in the best way possible!
4/28/21, 10:27 PM - Okay.
11/1/20, 1:43 PM - Forgot to mention in the note that this was a 375ml so that may change things if you have full bottles? It had plenty of enjoyment now but I wouldn't call it complex on the palate - I think that big burst of botrytis is going to stay prominent for quite some time so it's probably a fair while away from feeling fully integrated.Personally I think if you have half bottles I think now at 14-15 years is decent for a check in point but no huge hurry either if you want to see more depth.
9/20/20, 8:15 PM - Nice concise note, I like it.
9/7/20, 9:43 PM - Reads like low level cork taint? No aromas and stripped fruit ...
9/22/19, 5:11 AM - Sorry notes were a little behind this year but yeah the MFW review captures it well. Hope your bottle shines as much as this one did!I picked one up as well, but could only swing the half bottle at the price.
6/1/19, 7:59 AM - Thanks for the update on this, have a couple of bottles and was wondering if I should keep waiting. Another 2-3 years and check in?
5/25/19, 5:21 PM - Definitely heading into that dark toffee zone, tinges of orange around the edges still though.
5/12/19, 12:17 AM - Yeah the price took a big bump on the sacred sites and the ex-Stevens, I get that they are small production and highly in demand but I think a lot of people will be reconsidering this year. Think it'll be even harder if they push through $100.
4/12/19, 4:04 AM - Sorry, not sure about how long it was opened as it was someone else's bottle and I didn't note down any timing.
2/13/19, 3:09 PM - That's very lucky - I've seen a large number with TCA issues including some heartbreaking ones!
12/11/18, 5:02 PM - Generally the vintage is listed next to the letter R on the back label for V&S.
11/29/18, 4:50 PM - Hi Jon,Can confirm I'm Cameron rather than your friend Carrie, but that is a great set of connections all around. As yet another coincidence, we've had two different people named Jon from the US visit our wine tasting group in the last couple of years - please feel free to drop me a line if you find yourself over in Sydney and have a spare night to drink some good wine with us!Cam
9/24/18, 3:48 AM - This and the Old Patch the pick of them for me for sure. I'm not entirely convinced by the 4 acres in 17 but have a few as well so will have to see what they do with more time.
7/30/18, 4:38 PM - The reds can be bought under screwcap, you have to specifically ask for them though.
7/30/18, 11:30 PM - No problem, I think I have 50/50 cork/screwcap for the 2014s but I've only bought screwcap since finding out it was available. I wish I'd known sooner!
5/11/18, 3:53 AM - Shouldn't be any problem with it improving over 10+ years. Can't see it ever being 99 on my scale but that's okay and maybe I'll get a pleasant surprise down the track :)
4/15/18, 4:39 AM - I served a bottle of the '99 blind to my tasting group and I think everyone was thinking <10 years old rather than ~20 - agree that good bottles should have a whole lot of time left. Will be interesting to see what happens to the newer vintages as time goes on and how the cleaner style might impact their interest with age.
2/16/18, 9:41 PM - I think quite a lot heads across to the US - I know Australia only gets a very small allocation overall but we are thankful for what we can get!
12/26/17, 2:43 AM - What are you thinking for a drinking window? Too good to not drink now or potential upside still? Haven't had one in 5 years but only have the one bottle.
12/2/17, 9:55 PM - The July 2016 disgorgements that I've seen have been 50% 2011, 30% 2010, 20% 2009.
10/28/17, 6:37 AM - There seem to be a few premox issues with Trimbach around the late 90s and early 2000s, this bottle may have been a somewhat mild case of that, it still had good acid but the fruit profile was rounding out quite a bit and the dark colour was a bit concerning, enough so that I wouldn't have wanted to risk another 5 years with this particular bottle. Also possible that it had seen sub-optimal storage at some point rather than being premox related.
8/24/17, 9:20 PM - Don't think you could go too wrong with 10 years.
6/30/17, 9:17 PM - Thanks for the note. Any thoughts on further ageing benefits?
6/25/17, 9:23 PM - Yeah only certain markets, I assume AU/NZ primarily. I'm very happy to have it in screw cap, although in this case a cork sealed wine probably would have survived the drop in tact.
6/16/17, 6:41 PM - That's weird, I don't think I would have written the review against this wine, the admins may have merged the other wine listing with this one?
6/7/17, 8:19 PM - That's annoying, sorry it was no good. I'm not normally too sensitive to oak, so for me to call it out with all the other fruit elements it must have meant the oak was pretty prominent all those years ago.
12/29/16, 3:59 PM - What is your concern? It's a young wine with plenty of potential, don't be too worried! I didn't get bready characters on the bottles I've tried but it may come with more age?
12/27/16, 9:09 PM - Thanks Jon, will give it my best shot at not slowing down too much!
12/17/16, 11:55 PM - Nice, think that's a good choice! I wish I had more Drumborg Riesling in the cellar ...
7/22/16, 8:33 PM - Agree, it is a sad state for white burgundy as I love it aged but am pretty much just drinking young now. PYCM is meant to be a bit less prone to it, but it's still a risk.
7/16/16, 5:03 AM - Know/agree that it is too young, was just saying that it didn't wow as much as some other vintages tasted near release (that were also too young).
5/28/16, 5:49 PM - Thanks for the pickup, I did mean wouldn't!
5/21/16, 8:18 PM - 10-15 even better probably!
1/26/16, 1:59 AM - Thanks. This was just a quick taste at the cellar door but I was really impressed. Plenty of 2014s tasted on the day but this didn't suffer in comparison.
7/21/15, 7:41 PM - Still a little young, I do enjoy young wines when they have balance though and this one did. If you have a case then I think a bottle in the next couple of years would be fine to try if you don't mind giving it plenty of time in the glass to open up.
7/21/15, 7:36 PM - One of my "holy grail" wines was corked last Friday, made me want to give up wine!
7/14/15, 12:02 AM - This was at a tasting of 2010 Bordeaux put on by the MW Institute, so the bottles were getting opened whether I was there to try them or not! They are all too young to drink, but I can only write about what I tasted on the day.
5/4/15, 10:42 PM - It is definitely young and if you only have one I'd hold it for longer but worth trying if you have a few.
1/9/15, 8:30 PM - This is unfortified, hence the low alcohol.
6/9/14, 5:18 PM - Wow. What a tasting, thanks for the notes! I'm trying the 71 and the 06 next weekend, hopefully they show well!
4/18/14, 6:46 PM - I guess like a yeasty/cheesy type aroma you might get on some Champagne. I didn't find it off-putting but it was there. Dave described it as "freshly broken apart roast chicken breast" if that is more meaningful!I should be there in June, no idea what I'll bring yet but hopefully it'll be better than my last bottle.
4/3/14, 5:22 AM - This was at a tasting of the range with the importer for lunch, if it has been my bottle I would have been more patient, but it was pretty delicious as is!
3/21/14, 10:23 PM - This isn't the bottle we had at CDs place in January was it?
3/21/14, 10:50 PM - That whole night was somewhat of a blur by the end so apologies for forgetting that you weren't there. I wish our bottle had been more like yours, as it sounds great!
Thanks for letting us know about this problem. We will review your comments and be in touch soon with an update.
