Who says Sauvignon Blanc can't age? This 7 year old version is drinking wonderfully this evening. Showing some development, but still has a solid acidic backbone and plenty of fruit. Can drink now or over next 2-3 years.

My first Vitovska and I'm impressed. Low alcohol, but no sense of residual sugar. Unique flavor profile and color. Oh, and it's delicious too. Hard to tell, but it felt at, or near, peak. Definitely worth a try, if you get an opportunity.

PnP, consumed over 3 hours. Appearance: Clear, medium purple. Nose: Clean. Medium+ intensity with developing aromas of lush black and red fruit - blackberry, cassis, raspberry; red licorice, baking spice, new leather, and black olive - so stuffed and complex. Palate: Dry, medium acid, medium+ tannin is round and soft, pronounced intensity - exceptionally dense, medium+ body, 14.8% abv with developing flavors of perfectly ripe black raspberry, black olive, baking spice, and licorice with a long finish.

An outstanding wine that is dense, complex and long. The phenolic ripeness was nailed in this wine, if it could have been done at 14.3% abv instead of 14.8% abv this would have ranked with the best wines I've ever tasted. It's still close though - outstanding wine drinking well with 2+ hours of air today, better in 2-3 years and 3-5 beyond.

This is a wow wine. It has passed its peak but is still remarkable. It is very much still alive and somewhat limited in intensity but is showing exceptional balance and complexity. The balance between the primary, secondary, and tertiary characteristics is outstanding. This is one of those rare homeruns with a 25+ year old wine. Drink now or over next 1-2 years.

My first experience with Tazzelenghe and I'm impressed with the complexities - over two hours only one aspect has been constant, sour/tart red fruit other than that at different times it's shown ever changing subtle notes including licorice, sage, nutmeg, cedar, stems, game, and florals. Feels very youthful yet at 11 years old, with its best years yet to come. While I wouldn't describe this as delicous it is definitely very interesting.

Appearance: Clear, Pale-Medium Lemon. Nose: Clean, medium+ intensity with developing aromas of oak influenced nutmeg, fennel and vanilla with apricot, pear, and acacia notes. Palate: Dry, medium acid, medium+ intensity, medium+ body with creamy mouth-feel, 13.0% abv with developing flavors of nutmeg, apricot, and fennel with a medium+ finish. This is all about the oak usage and I think they did a pretty good job. At this moment the oak dominates but surprisingly doesn't over-power. I suspect within 2-3 years there will be a narrow window, 1 year or so, after the oak integrates completely where this provides an exceptional drinking experience. After that? Time will tell...

Palate: Dry, medium acid, medium+ tannin is resolved and soft, medium+ intensity, full body, 15.5% is, not surprisingly, noticeable with developing flavors of dark fruit - blackberry & cassis, baking spice, and bell pepper with a medium+ finish.

I'm torn by this wine because normally 15.5% abv would be a non-starter for me. Fortunately, I tasted this and formed an initial judgement before revealing the abv content. While the 15.5% abv is noticeable there is enough fruit and savory components to reasonably balance it out. I can actually enjoy this, in small doses, today. I'm not convinced extended time will be a friend to this wine though as I suspect it will turn into a hot mess in 5+ years. Drink now or over next 2-3 years.

I recently had the 2019 version and slightly prefer this. This bottling showed better balance between fruit and savory components. The fruit in the 2019 felt under-ripe and was dominated by the earthy and spicy notes. Oddly, the 2019 had 14.1% abv while the 2020 clocked in at only 13.4%, the opposite of expected. Some of the hottest days on record in the SRH occurred in 2020, those heat-spikes likely contributed to SRH Syrah's obtaining phenolic ripeness at lower abv in 2020.

Drinking well upon opening today, likely better in 2-3 years.
