5/21/24, 7:13 AM - Excellent note. So much more descriptive than mine.
5/15/24, 7:16 AM - It was opened and poured immediately. We enjoyed it outdoors too. The wine was very vibrant.
5/15/24, 7:13 AM - I think it was a great bottle, no problem there. I love being outside but it takes away a bit from the wine. It was a bit windy and that never helps. I was also grilling the burgers when it was poured. The bottle we had at the vault was just enjoyed in a better situation.
4/26/24, 4:22 AM - Tondonia never sees new oak. American oak but usually decades old.
4/26/24, 9:06 AM - Sorry if I seemed aggressive. I love Tondonia Blanco. If you ever visit you will find the aging procedure to be unforgettable. The cellar aromas are locked in my brain. It is unique. As part of our visit we spent some time in the Cooperage. It is all old barrels being repaired.
3/12/24, 8:43 PM - Interesting, my standard is Inama and I like this a little more. So much love for Soave. Do you remember that night in Seattle when we had 2 bottles of 07 Inama du Lot?
3/13/24, 10:11 AM - It was something close. I tasted the whole line up of Inama at the festival with Stefano Inama. All 2021s and all 90+ wines.
3/13/24, 1:54 PM - They do 4 Soave, a Sauvignon Blanc, a Carmenere and a Bordeaux blend. Drew and I actually tasted the 5 whites and skipped the reds.
2/24/24, 11:27 AM - I think you live in BC, is that right? If so did you get this at Everything wine? I also wonder if you have had your namesake wine? Fayolle Pontifax.
2/22/24, 8:21 AM - I appreciate your notes, we share the same favorites. The 20 Carleone is a favourite of mine. It’s nice to see it in a large comparative tasting.Cheers.
1/1/24, 7:51 AM - Love to. How nice of you. I have a Mag of 07 Montegrossi San Marcellino to contribute.
12/26/23, 10:45 AM - Thank you. I corrected it.
12/15/23, 7:21 AM - Interesting note. We both seem to have an interest in BC wines but have never crossed paths on CT. Probably because we don’t drink many wines in common. Cheers.Dave
11/21/23, 1:27 AM - Thanks for the note. If you want to go up a level with Felsina, my advice would be the Fontalorro over the Rancia. It is such a pure expression of Sangiovese.
7/8/23, 2:50 PM - Most of mine too. Should have drank up on release.
7/8/23, 8:43 PM - Sounds exactly like me. Great early on. I have one left too.
8/4/23, 1:46 PM - That’s good news, and at the same time frustrating. Glad you enjoyed it.
8/4/23, 4:37 PM - I do remember the WB thread he started. I have had this wine in other vintages and liked it. I had the same problem with Thomas Pico Chablis a while ago. I think half a six pack I bought was oxidized. I never bought another bottle of his wine. The retailer I bought this wine from is no longer a place I buy from. After 25 years of supporting them they still won’t sell me any Gonon. Petty I know. I may crack my last one tonight.
8/5/23, 4:03 PM - We had the last bottle last night and it was pretty good. I think it was better on release but it was a solid bottle. All the Best.Dave
8/9/23, 7:11 AM - I have some Barraud 2018s to check on, then back to Chablis for me.
7/26/23, 7:43 AM - Thank for your comment. Overall the wines in this vertical, put on by a friend, were better than I expected. I have been disappointed by this bottling for years. I still think the 13 and 10 are poor wines from very good vintages. The QPR here is terrible. I think the 18 is fine but would buy Le Cinciole CC for half the cost. There are so many good wines from 2018. YMMV.Cheers.Dave
5/23/23, 5:00 PM - I wouldn’t worry. This happens every now and then. I loved the first bottle.
5/24/23, 2:36 AM - Hi Jim. I have had good luck with K and L auctions pre-Covid.
5/5/23, 7:46 AM - Interesting comment on critics. I am not sure who you refer to, but there are many who qualify. Gone are the days where incompetence was treated swiftly, as Dr Jay Miller was at the WA when his first report on Spanish wines was released.I find Decanter to be the worst, why so many 97s? Very nice note.
2/18/23, 5:43 AM - Hello. I bought them in Vancouver at:https://www.marquis-wines.com/I have had problems with oxidizes wines from here previously.
2/9/23, 6:30 PM - Joost. It is a pleasure. All the Best.David
1/27/23, 7:52 AM - Great note. You may not discount it but Total Wines did to $22 a bottle.
10/2/22, 8:16 AM - What is though?
1/11/23, 9:07 PM - I didn’t waste my years at Sentinel High.
10/21/22, 2:19 PM - Planning ahead. I like that.
8/19/22, 8:09 AM - Saw your note on WLDG and found it a bit surprising. I have a love hate relationship with this winery. In the past I have found them dilute and uninteresting but every once in a while they are decent.Bought one of these to try at 22 bucks Cdn it didn’t seem too daring. My god I loved it. Bought a case yesterday. Thanks.Dave
8/20/22, 6:29 AM - Tight lettuce. I saw your profile pic and it looks like you do keep your lettuce pretty tight and unfrosted. My first Chianti experiences were with Gabbiano and Travaglini. Later bottles were always disappointing. I moved on but am happy to be back for this version.I do intend to age the 11 I have left near term like 6 to 8 weeks. I picked up my case the day before rationing started at the BCLDB.
8/20/22, 11:33 AM - It’s due to the BCGEU’s job action. The warehouses are behind picket lines so the Government stores are rationing product.
8/20/22, 11:54 AM - Until they run out I suppose. Beer and some BC wines do not go through the BCLDB warehouse but everything else does. To both Government and Private stores.
8/20/22, 3:55 PM - I have never heard her say Eh but her Canadian is perfect.
8/5/22, 4:44 PM - Thank you. I would say in the middle. It shows some nice development. I think it was recently released. William Kelly says it’s early so I would go with that.
7/23/22, 8:12 AM - Hi. It is the bottling that starts with 07. It was very oxidized. I have had the wine before and found it pretty fresh. I do of course expect some ox but this was heavily rancid like spoiled milk.
7/23/22, 3:59 PM - I have one as well. I also have a 2015 Rosato. You have a fair number of Rioja tasting notes I see. I was obsessed with the region a few years ago. We visited in 2019. Have you been?
7/23/22, 4:37 PM - We had the same treatment at LdH. Once you go there the wines make sense. The wines always have the character of the cellar? I have lots of their wines from the early 2000s. No hurry to drink. My favourite Rioja though is La Rioja Alta and I loved their tasting room. Btw, do you own a Citroen? I was looking at one on BaT this morning.
7/13/22, 8:28 AM - It is an honour to be even mentioned in the same sentence as Blair Curtis. A man who knows so much about wine and men’s footwear.
6/11/22, 7:42 AM - You could always read he/her notes.
6/11/22, 10:49 AM - That’s fair. This person drinks only the best it seems and also favours the big houses. Can I suggest a few non ox styled Growers.Vouette Sorbet, Marie Courtin, Benoit Marguet and Pouillon.
5/18/22, 3:55 PM - Every bottle of the 2010 I have had has been excellent. Perhaps richer than Tondonia but not at all baked or roasted. Perhaps your bottle was a bit heat damaged.
2/10/22, 7:32 AM - Glad I am not the only one. Of the 6 I bought 2 were absolutely undrinkable. One was so full of nasty sludge and filled the room with an intense TCA smell. I will avoid this winery in the future.I have a 6 pack of the 2018 too. Not in a hurry to open one.
1/27/22, 7:50 AM - Hi Blair. I thought this bottle was quite approachable and had a lot going for it. I think it is in the early drink ability stage. I have found a few 2012s this way. Same for most 2011 Barbaresco.
1/21/22, 7:32 AM - Hi. Help me understand the score of 58. Please.
1/21/22, 8:37 AM - That makes sense. Your note was very positive I thought. I was reading some of my notes from around 2012 and there was a tragic amount of typos. Cheers.David
1/2/22, 6:55 AM - Thanks. My bad. I edited. Yes I liked it a lot. Happy New Year.
10/22/21, 8:05 AM - I had this yesterday at a blind tasting. Your note describes my thoughts so much better than I could. Amongst a great lineup of Barolo and Barbaresco this wine stood out. So floral and mineral driven and such a pleasure to drink.Cheers.Dave
10/16/21, 12:24 PM - Thanks. I was thinking of a sauce that was smoky and savory but not sickly sweet.
10/10/21, 7:51 AM - Not austere at all.
10/1/21, 6:18 AM - Sean. Yes this seems to be in a great place right now and it is still the 2017. We drank a bottle on the same night as the much more expensive 2018 Drouhin Vaudon village wine and preferred this.
9/30/21, 3:42 PM - I am not sure what to think. The night before we had an18 Jean Foillard Eponyme that was great. It accompanied one of the best meals I can remember eating. It was at a restaurant called Pluvio. So I opened this for a comparison. Distant second place.Thank for your comments.
9/1/21, 11:48 AM - Alvin’s. My wine was the Orma.
8/10/21, 7:40 AM - Thanks. I am drinking my way through a 12 pack and completely agree that each bottle is better than the previous one.
8/23/21, 9:09 AM - Thanks for the note on the 18. Sadly our local agent skipped the 18 and brought in the 19.
7/3/21, 3:30 PM - Jim. Do you like them? Which size do you have?
8/6/21, 9:13 AM - I expected it to be a lot bigger in every way and it seemed nicely balanced. I wouldn’t buy it again without the free glass.
7/24/21, 4:47 PM - But look at you now. Had one of these yesterday. It didn’t get much better.
7/3/21, 6:34 PM - My friend Bill brought it over. I tend to drink my wines a bit earlier. I was involved with a board called winefanatics.ca. I met a lot of great people there. TBC.
7/3/21, 7:25 PM - I met neecies, GODX, Blair Curtis, Rasoul Salehi, Drew Malcom , Dr Edourdo and a few others there. I am still close with a few of them. We should do a restaurant tasting soon. I was going to wait for the border to open so Jenise and Bob could come but that is a bit longer away. What do you think?
5/28/21, 7:13 AM - Thanks for the note. And the right glasses are (drum roll please)?Honestly want to know what you think. I use Riesling glasses or Bordeaux glasses for most Champagne.
5/2/21, 8:31 AM - I got my bottle from the Liberty on Granville Island. They had a couple of other Texier wines too. I think Pierre told me they were the agent for Texier. Kits Wine Cellar has also had the wines in the past. I try to avoid that place because of the arrogant old fool who now seems to be in charge. Sunday is a good day to visit, Kristian is usually there.
4/26/21, 7:15 AM - Love that you call a 16 year old wine young.
4/2/21, 7:13 PM - I noticed you had a bottle Jim. The BCLDB had it on sale last month.
4/1/21, 11:18 PM - Excellent note. I have always liked the Cubillo and Gravonia bottling. Cheers.David
4/2/21, 7:15 AM - You and I seem to be amongst the few that note the antique store and old building nose in the Cubillo. I agree it is so much like Tondonia.
3/18/21, 9:23 PM - Glad you enjoyed it as much as I did. The La Stella Rose is usually good too. Have you had any Artekema wines.
3/19/21, 4:03 PM - Just drove through Oliver a half hour ago. The wines are only available from Enotecca right now. I am not sure what the future is for them. Playing Fairview Mountain tomorrow.
3/17/21, 8:28 PM - Thanks. I think it was just a bad couple of bottles from the same source.
3/17/21, 8:25 PM - Hi Jim. I think you are right. However I did have a bottle that was ok. I was perhaps in a more positive mood then or mis remembered (thanks Roger Clemens) the vintage.
3/7/21, 7:26 AM - Hi PSPatrick. Thanks for your comment. I agree, the Fontodi CC always seems ready to drink. Isole takes a bit of time to develop. I’m not sure I will purchase either in this vintage for the cellar. For that matter I may skip most 2017s. The 18s of other CCs are on the shelf and delightful.David
3/4/21, 7:52 AM - Neecies and Jim. Fun fact. Paulo’s son lived with the Cleridies for a summer in Vancouver.I love Isole. I had the 2010 last summer and it was beautiful. I hope these will turn out the same in 5 or 6 years.
Thanks for letting us know about this problem. We will review your comments and be in touch soon with an update.
