5/17/24, 11:37 PM - Nice notes on the old Meyneys! I have the 82 85 86. By the sound of it the 82 needs drinking...A wine delivering way above its station in the 80s
5/11/24, 2:26 AM - How do you contrast the 13 and 10? I love 13s more than most but would have still expected 10 to come ahead
5/11/24, 3:57 AM - Thanks. The '10 should be a smidge better. As an unabashed fan of 13 i still posit that some of the best 13s at GC level and especially Gevrey may rival their 10 counterparts
4/29/24, 1:39 AM - Thanks for the comment. Might there be 2 different cuvees for Rue des Noyers? Mine read clearly "Brut Nature" so 0 dosage.
4/29/24, 1:42 AM - I surmise you can declare as Extra Brut and still do zero doasge as Extra Brut is essentially a range that starts at zero dosage up to 3 I believe.
4/20/24, 4:07 AM - Did you find it better or worse in youth? I am not clear from your note. While it may have fleshed out and put on weight I found the ethereal character in youth was more singular
4/16/24, 5:34 PM - Hi, curious can you tell Base year and disgorgement from the bottle label? Or from representation of the retailer? Last I looked i could not tell much by looking at bottle
4/10/24, 7:32 AM - Had it recently and I would agree it does not feel any bit the lesser wine vs the 08 or 12 at this stage.
3/21/24, 7:01 AM - Egly< Bereche and Ulysse Collin
3/17/24, 5:38 AM - Having it now and I jump to almost the same conclusion. Many similarities with the NV but not sure it is better without even considering price differential
3/3/24, 5:27 AM - Only the 98 is alleged to challenge the 2000 for best Trotanoy of the last 30 years
2/27/24, 6:26 PM - Hehe I have some of this....plot is close to Borniques itself close to Amoureuses no less. 2011 was much maligned on release but has produced some good wines
2/19/24, 2:58 AM - I have a case of this and will try the first one soon. Your insight on required decant is useful. Do not be too hard on the Som, as long as he/she was truthful about when they opened the bottle. How does it compare with LMHB of the same vintage? Should be more tannic and coiled up being made from lots of press wine from LMHB
2/19/24, 11:20 AM - Thanks for the further insights! Look out for my tasting note on the LTHB 82!
2/19/24, 3:01 AM - Can it match the 2010 in due course? I personally think so but all conjecture
2/3/24, 8:37 PM - I had an earlier vintage (might have been the 08) of this and this was an epiphany especially considering the price point. Bought 2 cases of the 13 on close out and I am encouraged by your note. I am a bit perplexed that Voerzio and this wine do not get more recognition
1/26/24, 7:42 PM - I am hoping this was a subpar bottle. To Decanting Queen yes that cuts both ways. Then there are the Growers striking the nice midpoint between Grower and Maisons style as I believe you may have observed on Alexandre Fillaine
1/4/24, 9:36 AM - I do not feel it needs aggressive decanting. Needs to open up some which a narrower decanter will achieve in 30+ minutes
12/13/23, 8:46 AM - I opened several 06 Fourriers including Griottes that were cloudy. Some winemaking fault across the range i suspect
11/19/23, 1:19 AM - I feel less alone now in finding the celery note. This is a thing however in many wines and usually dissipates some with airing. I don't see it as a negative taste-wise but many people frown at the descriptor
10/29/23, 5:51 AM - Useful note. Just acquired an OWC/12, I shall inspect one soonest to check on state of corks. This wine is a legend in cognoscenti circles. Your note seems to confirm that
10/29/23, 5:56 AM - Useful note. Just acquired an OWC/12, I shall inspect one soonest to check on state of corks. This wine is a legend in cognoscenti circles. Your note seems to confirm that
10/2/23, 1:45 AM - Wow , that is quite the endorsement. Need to pull one from the cellar
10/2/23, 1:41 AM - Very thoughtful and eloquent note. I get the mixed feelings one can have with wines that appeal to the intellectual side but disappoint in terms of 'succulence'. Clape can be in that camp. Or Barthod, Gouges etc...
9/23/23, 1:34 PM - Hi, you will see some names going through my other tasting notes. Group of élite producers is even larger as I cannot claim to have tasted all and new names are coming up all the time. Bereche is the first name that comes to mind
9/25/23, 9:20 AM - I concur with both comments from RolfT and csimm. Egly Bouchard and others in the elite grower group are converging in prices so little reprieve here (though it depends on the cuvee, some cuvees at Egly are very complete and still relatively affordable). I am hopeful and suspect (not tasting across as a professional would) that there is a lot of emulation amongst growers and we might see the quality levels rise across the board the same way we saw it in Burgundy.
9/21/23, 1:44 PM - Great note. Bought a case of this recently; can't wait to try
9/20/23, 1:13 PM - Had this wine. I echo your comments. Never wowed by an Angerville. The '10 vintage is legendary and strikes the perfect balance between cool and warm years.
9/17/23, 2:43 PM - Sans doute une bouteille pas en forme. Pour ma part je l ai trouvé superbe et conforme au millésime 16 que les amateurs de Rhônes Nord tendus préfèrent au 15 et rapprochent du grandiose 2010
9/16/23, 3:02 PM - LOL - fat fingers for the score indeed - I shall correct
9/17/23, 1:14 AM - This definitely drinks well now already and i picked the 18 for presumed readyness over the same wine in 16 17 19. Of course this will keep at least 5 years
6/25/23, 10:17 PM - I have long felt that the best 13s might hold their own when compared to their 10 counterparts. Certainly true for the nose and aromatics
5/15/23, 6:05 PM - I love Barthod and got under the spell very early after drinking Fuees and Cras 01. When on they are absolutely riveting and first tier CdN. However they are often shutdown , inexpressive and inscrutable in the first 10 or 15 years. I sit on a big stash but hardly drink any for now letting them age. Reading your note i can see exactly what you experience
4/18/23, 10:38 AM - I have not tasted consistently but reports by professional taster i follow (John Gilman) suggest all vintages from 2017 to 2020 are ripe or very ripe. 2021 looks to be a return to a classic profile
4/19/23, 7:43 AM - Had a Bouland Morgon Delys 21 , no shrinking violet and nowhere close to underripe but there is a zing and resonance to it. That Fleurie was too ripe and I cannot fault such a storied producer. One needs to avoid certain vintages
3/23/23, 7:55 PM - Thanks for the observation - there are beautifully made wines for those who like a full-bodied and riper style. I have felt that some terroirs had more finesse than others such as an Aniane but in fairness I only taste Languedoc wines once in a blue moon
1/18/23, 7:17 PM - Was that the 99 or 2009? You mention 23 year old wine...
12/24/22, 9:56 AM - Having just visited the domaine I can report that the philosophy behind both wines is very different. Barres are a very special site with older ungrafted vines so this is made as an elite Cuvée with Aspirations of long bottle aging. Francis Egly vinifies Vrigny to his usual exacting standards but reckons it is for earlier drinking
8/16/22, 7:17 PM - My recollection as well after cycling through several bottles many years ago. It may never turn the corner, acidity is the defining characteristics of the 08s
6/28/22, 8:04 AM - Great tasting note 😉
6/18/22, 9:18 PM - Echoes my impressions. Holds its own with all the better classified left bankers I have had from 1990. It is that good
10/16/21, 12:40 AM - My thoughts exactly- interestingly the wine was not very well rated shortly after release by most critics and range of palates. So it has come into its own with bottle age
7/14/21, 1:31 AM - See what you are getting at with the creaminess, something with the texture. It is fleshy in a way few burgs manage without losing the weightlessness that makes them singular. A 2005 perfectly in the zone now and living up to the vintage promises
5/27/21, 7:08 AM - O'Meara - I three it in the decanter but drank it right away. If one wants to maximize the experience I recommend 60 - 90 minutes of decanting and then slow sip over a couple hours
2/26/21, 10:58 PM - That jibes with my experience with this wine as well as Courcel Pommards in 99. Burg disguising as a Rhone wine is an apt description. Speaks to Pigot Noir s many characters but not the floral red-fruited light footed profile that sets it apart
11/23/20, 10:57 PM - I reckon we drank it too cold and with limited aeration given the weight it proved to still have...
10/2/20, 2:00 PM - I second that - extended areation made a huge difference. Nose was there on pop and pour but mid-palate filled out a lot overnight and colour darkened. I would advise minimum 2 hour upfront decant for this
12/17/19, 5:11 AM - The 2007 of this cuvee had stellar aromatics if you enjoyed them in their youth. I have had the 05 06 10 12 15 and when on form i would have taken the 07 over any of those
10/10/19, 6:12 AM - Had the wine tonight - your note is very accurate...how much this wine packs with 12.5% ....makes one think..strong cedar nose ; very elegant. I need to hunt down more of those relatively unsung heroes
8/25/19, 5:00 AM - Derek and I told you so - we both had it
1/18/19, 6:18 PM - Hi, i bought this - what does it tell you about the style of the 2013 reds?
1/4/19, 2:56 AM - I had a similar experience to yours I think , only a few weeks later in Milan. I too remember it was definitely on the red-fruit side with little to none of the tar which i can find off-putting. It was very floral, great nose. I bought the little I could find subsequently but judging by your latest note it has closed some now. I am too new to Barolo to know whether the fruit/flavor profile is indicative of less ripe vinatge, if 2012 is less ripe than say 2013.
12/30/18, 12:28 AM - It is just dawning on us all how the wine world was one-track minded with Parker - to an extent we may never see again
12/25/18, 5:58 AM - You sure it is at peak? I had the Cras 06 this year and it drank beautifully but I see it holding for much longer
12/1/18, 3:02 AM - strano perche si dice che e Louis ad occuparsi delle vigne mentre Ghislaine Barthod fa la vinificazione. Ho avuto il Gevrey Evocelles dello stesso Boillot ed era bellissimo
7/28/18, 2:26 PM - yes I agree 100 point scale is of little to no value with false pretense any drinking experience can be defined down to one point
Thanks for letting us know about this problem. We will review your comments and be in touch soon with an update.
