Nice nose with super concentrated flavors, darker fruit character, cherries, wild strawberries, forest and earth notes, and a bit of spice that came out with air. Good acidity with quite a bit of ripeness on the palate, more dark cherries, strawberries, minerals, and blood orange flavors. Pretty long on the finish. This was super interesting and not at all what I expected from a new/hip Burgundy producer (i.e. no stems, mostly darker fruit, a bit higher alcohol). The wine is massive and very concentrated and needs a ton of time in the cellar. It didn't feel heavy, though, and with air the nose turned a bit brighter. Hold for 10+ years. 93-94++

Lovely nose with nice depth, some lemon and orange zest notes, slight smoke, and a bit of flint. Great acidity on the palate with some effervescence that blew off quickly in the glass. More citrus flavors, green apple, and crushed rocks follow. Nice finish. Lovely wine that should age well. 92++

Nice nose with citrus, a bit of spices, apples, and minerals. Good acidity (but not high) with more citrus notes, lemon, and green apple on the palate. Nice finish that lingers. Interesting wine that was super enjoyable but maybe not the most complex. Tastes somewhat like a modern Jura Chardonnay.

Quite nice on the nose with cherries, sweet red berries, spices, and forest notes. The palate is nicely mature and still shows distinctly Californian fruit (in a good way). Good acidity and more cherries and berries keep it fresh. Good finish. This was a real pleasure to drink. Impressive appellation wine!

Gorgeous nose with deep and complex flavors, notes of cherries, spices, underwood, earth, and wild strawberries. Good acidity with some sous bois and lots of cherries and berries on the palate. Long finish. Wow, this was quite the wine! Drinking perfectly right now, but this should hold for a long time. One of the best unexpected Burgundy experiences in recent memory.

Very pretty nose with spices, a bit of smoke, cherries, and strawberries. Nice acidity on the palate with tart red fruit, pomegranate, and strawberries. There is a surprising amount of tannic structure (for Gamay) and a nice finish. Lovely wine that has great aromatics and good complexity. The flavors on the palate are maybe a tad unripe, but it didn't bother me much. Does it deserve to be one of the most expensive Gamays on the planet? No. Is it a really nice Gamay? Yes!

Lovely and quite savory nose with a bit of citrus and orchard fruit. It's surprisingly subtle but kept changing and evolving with air in the glass. Good acidity with lemon zest and a very distinct grapefruit flavor on the palate. Nice finish. A really delicious wine that opened up with air. It's still young and mostly about promise right now and I would hold this for another 5+ years. 94++

This was much more subtle on the nose compared to the 2018 Leroy Montbenault but also showed a bit more breadth. Pretty nose with lemon and slightly riper fruit (peach) that shows some weight without being heavy. Nice acidity on the palate with flavors of lemon, orange, and minerals. The flavors are round and very well balanced. Nothing sticks out, but also nothing really jumps at you. Nice and long finish. Fantastic wine, maybe just a small step behind the Leroy but tonight clearly the second favorite.

Incredible and fragrant nose with slight reduction, notes of lemon and lime, and minerals. There's a lot going on with new flavors emerging with air. High acidity with more lemon notes, lots of minerals and crushed rocks, and some dry extract on the palate. Long finish. Simply outstanding wine. So young, yet showing beautifully. Quite different style to the 2015 Nourrissons next to it. 96++

Forest floor, red fruit, maybe a hint of leather, cherries, and sweeter fruit on the nose. It started out a bit reserved but really blossomed with air. The palate is very nice as well and shows some tertiary character, sous bois, but still plenty of fruit and feels slightly sweeter than the nose. Good finish. This was a really good, very traditional Burgundy that's probably drinking close to peak right now.

Beautiful nose with ripe and intense fruit, peach, lemon, lots of dry extract, grapefruit, and a hint of honey. Great acidity with citrus flavors, green apple, more peach, and a hint of apricot. It's very ripe but actually well balanced by the acidity and brighter flavors. Long finish. This is excellent, wow! It's beautiful now but will only improve with age. There's probably a touch of Botrytis but I felt it didn't distract from the Riesling flavors. 96+

Much darker nose than the Giacosa next to it with more black cherries and some tar notes. It feels much more substantial but perhaps also less nuanced. Nice acidity on the palate with lots of tannic structure, red fruit, cherries, some spices, and forest notes. The finish is quite long. This is really good but not nearly as open and accessible as the Giacosa. 94-95+

Pretty and outgoing nose with classic Nebbiolo notes of roses, flowers, cherries, a slight pepper note, and nice depth. Great acidity with present but not too harsh tannins, lots of cherries, a hint of berries, and underwood on the palate. Long finish. A really lovely, beautiful wine that should continue to age for a long time, but is drinking really well already.

The nose was quite backwards and almost felt closed. Some red fruit and underwood emerged with air, but overall it wasn't showing much. Relatively tannic palate with more red fruit, good acidity, and some spices. Good finish. This was really hard to read and I feel like there is enough substance and fruit that will eventually emerge, but now is not the time. 92ish in the future...

Nice aromatics with darker fruit tones, cherries, violets, and nice depth. Good acidity with maybe a bit of an oak influence on the palate, strawberries, and cherries. The fruit is quite primary still. Nice finish. This was super interesting to try, although it's a wine that needs time to fully come together. 93++

First time trying this producer. Really pretty nose with delicate notes of cherries, earth, berries, and forest. Quite high acidity on the palate with strawberry flavors and forest floor. Nice finish. This reminds me much more of a red Jura than Burgundy and while the wine is very light on both nose and palate, it's quite complex, subtle, and deep. Wow, this is actually really impressive. Almost like a young Overnoy Poulsard... 94++

Started out with a classic Austrian SB nose with gooseberry and slate. With air, this really changed and showed many facets. Some riper fruit emerged with hints of peach and honey. It has quite a bit of breadth and complexity and there’s enough acidity to keep the richness in check. Great wine!

No formal notes, but this was excellent! High acidity, complex flavors, nice depth. Drinks pretty well now with air, but should continue to improve with time.

Flavors are quite consistent with my note from 2020. Lots of minerals, lemon, just a hint of reduction. But if feels just slightly less interesting to me now than young. Maybe feels a bit more “generic New World Chardonnay” now, although obviously very high quality.

Deep and complex nose with apricots, honey, and orange as the key components. Impeccably balanced palate with good acidity, only moderate sweetness, more orange and some lemon flavors, apricot, hay, honey, and caramel. Very long finish. A fantastic experience! Surprisingly youthful and elegant, it feels like the wine needs another couple of decades to show its best. Pure class.

This was pretty closed at first but with air it started to show floral notes, wild strawberries, and sweet fruit. Well balanced with good depth on the palate, ripe fruit, and maybe a hint of plums. It picked up aromatics and lift with air. Long finish. A gorgeous wine, although not quite as good as the last bottle I had. In this tasting a small but noticeable step up from the Pignan.

A big step up from the 2001 Tours Vacqueyras. Very pretty nose with lots of cherries, a hint of strawberries, and spices. The palate is also very fruit driven with more cherries and strawberries, noticeable structure, and a little sweeter fruit, especially when compared to the Rayas. Nice finish.

Good flavors on the nose, but compared to the Pignan and Rayas this showed much more alcoholic heat, accompanied by cherries and some flowers. I also go the heat on the palate, but there are nice fruit notes, and an herbal quality that keep it from being unbalanced. Good finish. A nice wine, but not really close to the other two.

Deep and dark nose with notes of violets, black cherries, and lots of floral character. Good acidity with meaty flavors, olives, bacon, and more cherries. Long finish. A beautiful experience and while I'm sure this will only be better in 10-20 years it's really showing well today with air.

Lovely nose that still has lots of fruit, cherries, iron, meaty notes, and violets. Good acidity on the palate with a bit of forest, more iron, savory, and flowers. Long finish. A fantastic showing! This was still very young but showing some tertiary flavors and lovely complexity. Should continue to evolve beautifully for years to come.

The nose was quite shy at first but it woke up with air and showed complex and nuanced notes of citrus, flowers, a hint of smoke, and a bit of oak. Excellent balance with similar flavors, well integrated oak, and lots of depth. Nice finish. Phenomenal wine that is all about nuance rather than in-your-face power. There's not shortage of flavor, though and it kept changing with time in the glass. Wonderful!

Nice nose with lemon notes, some flowers, a hint of jasmine, and flint. Good acidity with a distinct lemon note, green apples, and a ton of minerals on the palate. Good finish. Compared to the other whites on the table, this showed perhaps a bit more age than is expected. Still pleasurable but probably technically slightly advanced.

Lovely nose with red berries, forest floor, and flowers. Good acidity with quite a bit of tannic structure on the palate, more red fruits and berries, alpine strawberries, slightly earthy, and tart red fruit. Nice finish. This tasted so much younger than a 2005 and overall it reminded me much more of 2005 red Burgundy than a Ganevat red. Very enjoyable, overall.

What an experience this wine was! Started out with quite strong barnyard and funky flavors and very reduced overall so I was a bit worried. 3-4 hours in the decanter really made this come alive, though. Beautiful notes of wild strawberries, earth, savory, and flowers on the nose. Good acidity with a slightly cleaner flavors on the palate, more wild strawberries, cherries, a bit more funk, and nice complexity. Great finish. What a wine! This is completely alive and kept changing in the glass. After about 5 hours, the last sip was probably the best. It's nuanced and beautiful, but also very wild. Probably not for everyone, but even people with a more traditional palate who generally dislike these types of barnyard notes in wines really enjoyed it (with air).

Very reductive nose with some minerals, flint, smoke, and lemon notes. Good acidity with more lemon, matchstick, and lime zest on the palate. Good finish. This is really hard to read as it's so reduced right now. The flavors are nice and it still feels very primary. I'm guessing this needs at least another 10+ years, but the producer signature is strong. 93-94+

There are noticeable tannins on the palate that add texture and structure. Long finish. Excellent wine with great complexity. Really reminds me of a Ganevat Chalasses.

This needed a lot of air. Started out quite closed and over the course of a few hours it opened up and became alive. Lots of flower, orange blossom, citrus zest, and a bit of honey on the nose. Good acidity with more orange zest and juice flavors, minerals, and honey on the palate. Long finish. A really pretty wine once it opened up. I loved the aromatics and the palate has a nice texture and depth.

Great nose with lots of citrus notes, lemon, lime, minerals, green apple, and a hint of white flowers. High acidity with more citrus notes, chalk, tart orchard fruit, and lime on the palate. Long finish. Really beautiful wine! My first time trying this vineyard and it feels like a little more acidic and brighter than the Nourrissons, with maybe a bit less intensity and minerality. Would love to taste them side by side at some point…

Quite interesting wine. Some floral notes, citrus, VA, and peach on the nose. Light effervescence with good acidity and some noticeable residual sugar on the palate, along with flavors of peach, lemon, and orange zest. Good finish. Very enjoyable but honestly the first Steen wine I tried that’s not overly volatile.

Very pretty nose with flowers, darker fruit, cherries, earthy notes, and some spices that emerged with air. It's quite fragrant but decidedly darker toned than the 2017 and 2018 at roughly the same age. There's good acidity on the palate with cherries and strawberries, fresh fruit, and a bit of savory. Nice finish. A lovely wine that is drinking okay right now but shows great promise for the future. 93-94+

What an experience to drink one of these in great condition and at peak. Lovely nose that still has lots of fruit notes, lemon, herbs, limen, and minerals. It's showing tertiary notes but continued to improve throughout the night and started to show a bit of creamy notes. Great acidity on the palate with precision, more lemon flavors, a bit of hay, and rocks. Long and lingering finish. Beautiful wine, this is how aged Chardonnay should taste. I particularly liked the balance between subtleness, weight, and power. The only minor things to criticize is that it could have a bit more depth, maybe that's reserved for the Grand Crus...
