Pop and pour. Absolutely singing. Soft game, pure wild strawberry, licorice, soft earth, cocoa powder, spice. On the palate: perfectly balanced acidity and density, more wild strawberry and soft licorice. Very soft tannin on the close. A stunning btl, capturing the essence of Gevrey!

Pop and pour. Lovely aperitif this time. Slightly oxidative meyer lemon, gorgeous mousse, a touch of sweet cream. On the palate: lovely acidity. good density. More meyer lemon and sweet cream. Disappeared quickly.

Pop and pour. Needed lots of air, as it was dark and closed to start. Much better after 24 hrs. On the nose: perfumed black and red fruit, soft mulberry leaf, a touch of secondary gaminess. On the palate: fantastic acidity, soft red fruit, cocoa powder, and very finely grained but dense tannin on the juicy finish. For my palate: this could go for ages. Will try to.follow for a few more days.

Pop and pour. Notes from 24 hrs open. This is a glorious btl of new world chardonnay. On the nose: soft almond, tangerine, loads of meyer lemon, fresh herbs. On the palate: lovely density and acidity, marzipan, grilled citrus and soft minerality on the dark, but juicy finish. Wow.

Pop and pour. Lovely showing. On the nose: richly styled, leesy lemon with a very hi-toned lean. On the palate: fantastic acidity, bright citrus, soft mousse, which is still slightly aggressive to start, but fine after 30 minutes. An excellent btl; 6-7g/L dosage.

Pop and pour, notes from day 2 open. Probably should have decanted this. Based of 2020. On the nose: soft leesy notes, lemon oil, a hint of oxidation, but very precise. Soft mousse (much more aggressive yesterday), mineral core with grapefruit and soft lime. Solid, but very young. Up there with the Peters Cuvee de Reserve imo.

Pop and pour. On the nose: lovely secondary and tertiary notes; charcoal, blackberry, blueberry, toasty cedar, bbq. On the palate: lovely acidity, red fruit, good density. Wispy tannin on the juicy finish. For my palate, this is excellent, but still young, assuming this btl is representative. No hurry to drink whatsoever.

Hmm. On the nose: sappy red fruit, pomegranate molasses, soft green herbs. On the palate:.lovely acidity, good density, but a bitter herbs/hard red candy note that I'm not finding so pleasant on the mid palate and finish. Bitter herbs and soft tang om the close. Will follow over a few days to see what happens. Never had a Zieresien at 15 before.

Much improved with a few days open. Softer hard candy note.

Fascinating. Definitely on the downslope, but pineapple sorbet, lemon curd, and marzipan om the nose. Very rich on the palate, but simultaneously shows good minerality and solid acidity on the finish. Better on the palate with 30 min open.

This is gorgeous chard for the price. Notes from 48 hrs open. On the nose: mineral clay and meyer lemon, soft leesy notes. On the palate: fantastic acidity, lovely density, crushed rock, mineral oil, pepper, lemon, lemon oil. Tang and soft spice on the finish. Excellent.

Wow, pop and pour. This was a revelation. On the nose: loads of blackberry, mulberry, red fruit and olive brine; elegant and classy. On the palate: fantastic acidity up front, juicy and dense mid, shimmering red fruit with loads of whole cluster(?) complication. Tang more than tannin on the citric and softly medinal finish. Transparent and varietally representative: excellent!

Pop and pour. Notes from 2 days open. Has definitely improved with air: a bit monolithic and flat to start. On the nose: underripe peach, gooseberry, soft herbs, and a leesy note; no petrol to speak of. On the palate: richly styled, and that covers up the acidity up front, but it comes out on the mid-palate. Juicy and tangy on the finish, but nevertheless, not the most distinguished Pechstein.

Pop and pour. Will follow over several days. On the nose: cherry, soft stem and cola, and soft cocoa and cinnamon. On the palate: lovely acidity, sour cherry, cola and soft green. Soft tannin on the finish. At this stage, a well-built PN, but not a class above other NZ PN in this style I've had.

Day 2: not much evolved from yesterday, but no signs of deterioration either. Sadly, circumstances conspired to not leave any for tomorrow...

Popped and splash decanted. Let sit on the counter for 24 hrs. Deep purple in color. On the nose: cedar, blackberry, a touch of charcoal, cassis. On the palate: fine acidic tang, blackberry, char, spice. Soft finish with fine med tannin. Very good already with lots of air, but probably a lot better in 5-15 years.

Hmm. Needed 2 hrs to settle. At first, reminded me a bit of 04 Cote de Nuits with the ladybug issues (definitely not a positive). Loads of forest floor, red fruit, but a hard edge, that seems more like the hardness in 2005 red burgs with air. On the palate: lovely acidity, solid density, more red fruit, forest floor, and a ton of minerality, but.a hard rustic tannic finish that makes this quite difficult. We'll see whether this softens tomorrow.

On the palate: fantastic acidity lovely density and more of what I expect with Chenin; fantastic minerality, and pure sour apple. Long finish. An excellent vintage of this wine, imo.

Pop and pour. Better than my last btl. On the nose: blackberry, wild strawberry, soft iron a touch of coffee, and a dash of cinnamon. Lovely nose! On the palate: lovely acidity, dense red fruit, but quickly overcome by rustic attack and aggressive chewy, grainy tannin. Less lovely on the palate.

Unscrew and pour. For an American PN audience, this shows Russian River Valley fruit, and Santa Ynez elegance, with whole cluster spiciness thrown in the mix. Tasmanian PN was a revelation on this last trip, and this wine was our favorite at the Giant Steps tasting. On the nose: ripe raspberry to start, then more pomegranate and spice after a couple hours open. On the palate: lovely acidity, loads of cracked pepper spice, soft stems, wild strawberry and pomegranate molasses and elegant tannin on the finish. Excellent now (and I was told that the current winemaker makes these so they may be drunk without extended maturation), but one can't help but wonder what time will do...Lovely.

Been a while since my last btl. Decanted (wide-bottom decanter with lots of swirling yesterday); fair amount of reduction up front, but went away with an hour open. Notes from 24 hrs open. On the nose: wild strawberry, pomegranate molasses, cinnamon, clove, so much going on. On the palate: fantastic acidity, broader and darker than I remember this being; more black fruit and soft stems. Lovely soft tannin on the close. Much better than my last showing, which was already very good.

Still ticks all the Cayuse boxes with more acidity than I remember experiencing on average. On the nose: black raspberry, grilled cabbage, olive, soft char. On the palate: good acidity, chalk, red fruit, a touch thinner than expected but solid, spicy finish, showing a touch of heat, but largely attenuated tannin.

Pop and pour. This just needed time. Notes from Day 2 open. Glorious. Comes off as a New World inflected Echezeaux, with loads of cardamom, spice, pomegranate, black tea. It just wafts from the glass in waves. Gorgeous on the palate: fantastic acidity, elegant, satiny black fruit and pomegranate molasses, a touch of cinnamon and pepper dust, wild strawberry, loads of spice and wispy tannin on the finish. Stunningly elegant now.

Final btl. Absolutely gorgeous and hasn't lost a step. On the nose: dark, earthy MSD fruit, with loads of soft cocoa and game notes. On the palate: black and red fruit. earth, leather, soft cocoa, fantastic acidity. and that '05 "hardness" has finally softened to leave wispy tannin and lingering tang and spice. Only took 19 years....

Pop and pour. Brought up a wine, gave to my wife, and she said: why didn't you bring up something different from what we've been drinking. April Fool's joke's on me. Brought this up instead. Betrays every bit of its 15% ABV in heat on the nose and palate. I'll be generous and call it "spice". Pure plum, dense black and blue fruit on the nose..with all the subtlety of a sledgehammer. On the palate: solid acidity, lighter bodied than expected, compensated for by black pepper and heat, cola, black fruit and grainy tannin on the finish. Good, but somewhat disjointed. This btl seems likely to fall apart.
