7/14/23, 11:05 AM - Is it possible your bottle may have been flawed? An off bottle perhaps? I tasted my bottle in February, with like-minded tasters and it was the complete opposite of your description. Sincerely, Delusional.
7/14/23, 7:25 PM - Thanks for the reply. I've yet to have an issue with this producer but I do agree, wines from S&F can be sketchy. I've seen how they store their wines in 90 degree warehouses. Yikes!
6/29/23, 10:10 PM - 100 percent agree with your TN. My bottle was spectacular!
6/5/23, 8:42 PM - Your description doesn't match the 80-point score you gave this. An 80-point wine is not a good wine. Your tasting note describes a much better wine.
5/22/23, 1:04 PM - I have a half case of this in my cellar and although I've yet top crack open a single bottle I thought I'd reply to your comment about the 97 point score from a previous user. The answer to your question is obvious: Taste is subjective. Or, maybe your bottle didn't show as well as the previous user's bottle. I've tasted the same wine and vintage days apart and rated the wine with vastly different scores. Anyway, I hope your next bottle is better than your 93 point score. Cheers.
5/5/23, 6:24 PM - Sounds like this could possibly could have been a tainted bottle. Considering other users have rated this wine in the 90's would it be fair to designate this a flawed bottle rather than a score of 84?
4/4/23, 10:33 AM - Out of curiosity, to the extent that the second bottle you had was delightful, and given that the rest of user's scores reflect the performance of your second bottle, would it be fair to mark this up as a flawed bottle in lieu of such a low score?
4/6/23, 6:49 PM - I appreciate the reply. Very informative; thank you. What a bummer. It's odd because I just opened one last night and it was in the 92-93 range. I'm way behind on posting TN's so I'm hoping to get it into CT in the next month or so. I hope you have a better experience next time around. We really enjoyed ours. Cheers.
2/2/23, 9:09 PM - Perhaps it was a bad bottle because it seems I had a completely different experience than yours.
1/16/23, 8:41 PM - It worked well by you scored it a measly 75 points?
6/28/22, 5:44 AM - Touché! Thanks for bringing this to my attention; I edited the TN accordingly. Cheers!
5/24/22, 11:26 AM - I've been drinking this bottling for years and it is typically pretty tightly wound at this stage of its development, displaying more mineral-inflected tones in lieu of fruit. I have found that the fruit is more pronounced the longer it ages. Cheers.
1/12/22, 6:17 PM - You mention this was a pleasant wine and a nice daily red in your TN but you marked the wine flawed. I'm wondering if you accidentally did so.
1/6/22, 3:43 PM - Thanks, mate. If your bottle comes anywhere close to performing like mine, you are in for a treat. Cheers
12/1/21, 9:51 PM - Thank you for the kind words. And thanks for uploading this additional info. I really found it informative!
4/1/21, 9:57 PM - 59 points? Really?
3/20/21, 3:29 PM - Thank you for the kind words. I try to be extremely fair and impartial with my scores and TN’s so I appreciate your positive feedback. Cheers!
3/11/21, 5:42 PM - Yes Sir! It was a really enjoyable bottle especially for its price point. Cheers!
3/10/21, 9:19 PM - Hi, to be fair, if the wine had enough TCA to negatively affect the score, shouldn't this be classified as a "Flawed" wine, rather than rating it a lower score, and thus affecting the overall CT rating? Or in the very least, leave it as No Rating (NR). Based on your TN, this was clearly a corked wine and thus Flawed. Thanks
3/11/21, 9:38 AM - It's clearly a flawed wine so it's unfortunate you're scoring it this way. Have a good day.
3/11/21, 10:40 AM - Not at all. I've only had a few bottles in the past decade. I'm just not close minded like other users whose egos prevent them from being fair or objective.
3/10/21, 9:20 PM - No tasting note?
3/3/21, 8:49 PM - I agree with mpowell, you can't score it 58 points without justification. If the wine was that bad you should mark it as a flawed wine and not score it at all.
1/14/21, 10:39 PM - I'm actually drinking this as I type this comment. I completely agree on the funk + reductive, sulfur thing going on. This is a likeable wine but the funky, toasty, sulfur reduction outlasts all the other aromas on the nose. I'll post a note in the coming week or so. You are spot on.
11/5/20, 12:04 PM - Your TN is the winery's description of this wine, word for word, on the back label of the actual bottle. Did you taste every single element they described?
11/4/20, 4:53 PM - I think this is the worst kind of corked. You get enough of the wine to know it's good juice only for that ever-so-slightly tinge of cork. Cheers
10/30/20, 2:24 AM - Read your scores and TN’s for this tasting event and did so with a level of incredulity I didn’t think I was capable of. It sounds like almost every single wine was a wretchedly vile big fat pile of suck. I cannot even imagine.
10/29/20, 10:33 PM - I agree with you on the overpriced assessment. I still have a few 2007, 2008, and 2009 Estate and Reserve Zins in my cellar. I actually found the zins I've had a little too sweet. Their Estate Cabs, on the other hand, are much better.
10/29/20, 10:28 PM - Kim Crawford SB, regardless of vintage, always seems to taste the same to me. It's homogeneous at best and boring at worst. I do, however, rate it a bit higher than your score. Cheers.
10/28/20, 1:37 PM - Thanks for the comment. Absolutely, the Semillon adds weight and complexity to this bottling. One of my faves. Cheers!
10/23/20, 12:11 AM - You can edit your score and change it to 89 to better reflect the wine's score.
10/24/20, 10:49 AM - Lol.. that makes sense. Thanks for being receptive. Cheers!
10/23/20, 12:45 AM - If this is a bad bottle please mark the wine as flawed rather than rating it with such a low score.
10/15/20, 4:50 PM - These are so good with some cellar time. I can imagine the '09 starting to open up. I imagine it will be beautiful for decades to come. Lucky you!
10/22/20, 9:34 PM - Sorry, guys, haven't been on here in a few days. But after reading your comments I feel very educated on the topic at hand. Thanks for all the back and forth. Cheers!
10/15/20, 7:10 PM - I can understand your high praise for this wine. I like them with lots of bottle age and given the time to further develop this evolves into something majestic. They are as enduring as they are beautiful.
10/15/20, 5:44 PM - Is it possible you had a flawed bottle? I just added a TN for this wine and it was delicious.
10/15/20, 1:49 AM - Hi, I'm not sure of the exact date but I bought this bottle in June of 2016 so I assume it was disgorged in late 2015 or early 2016. But Bollinger NV has the ability to age so well that it retains its freshness for years after disgorgement. This bottle tasted really vibrant and fresh. Hope this helps.
10/15/20, 4:52 PM - If you have two bottles disgorged in 2017 you have plenty of time before deciding to open one. These age so beautifully and retain plenty of vibrancy and freshness. I look forward to seeing your tasting notes! Sante!
10/14/20, 10:07 PM - Out of curiosity, if this is a stunning wine why did you only rate it 89 points?
10/5/20, 10:11 AM - Thanks for your kind words. I re-read your last TN for this wine. Bummer! Hopefully just an off bottle. I really enjoyed it last time around. This was a really versatile wine. I can see it pair well with a bevy of different foods, ethnic and spicy too. I paired this with meatless fish tacos (using Gardein fishless filets) with the works, including chile, avocado, spicy aioli, shredded red cabbage, and a squirt of lime. It was perfection. If the oak isn't pronounced on your last bottle I can see it pairing beautifully with spaghettie aglio e olio, with parmigiano reggiano, chili flakes, and a twist of lime or lemon. I hope your bottle shows well!
10/5/20, 11:29 AM - You are too kind. Just know that you are one of my favorite users on CT and I thoroughly enjoy your detailed TN's. It's the least I can do!
10/4/20, 12:09 PM - Thank you. I try my best! Cheers!
9/29/20, 8:51 PM - Based on your TN it sounds like you had a bad bottle. I opened the same bottle tonight and it is drinking beautifully. If in fact yours was an off bottle, maybe marking your score as Flawed rather than 88 points would more accurately describe your experience? Only you would know, of course, but thought I’d throw that out there. Cheers..
6/27/20, 1:38 PM - Sorry about the delayed reply. Thanks so much for commenting. It really was a tasty wine.
5/31/20, 1:02 PM - I decanted approximately 30-45 minutes. This got better as the night went on. I don’t know how many points WE have it but was impressed. Very well made!
5/31/20, 2:14 PM - No problem. I enjoy all your reviews. If we are being fair, bottle variation notwithstanding, then the consensus should be that this wine is very good to excellent. I make a concerted effort to decant every wine I drink to follow its evolution and properly assess. I have friends who simply PnP for instant gratification and don’t come to the same conclusion I have about the same wine. It’s not until I convince them to try the same bottle again with a decant that they start singing my song. Thanks for sending the WE link!
12/8/19, 6:37 PM - I would agree with you. My understanding of orange wine is that the skins are not removed like in white wine production, and they contact the juice for days or weeks depending on the style. Having said that, the wine rep at the tasting promoted it as an orange wine, and the wine itself had a pretty orange hue. Taking all this into consideration is the reason I wrote "orange" wine in quotes because I was dubious. But this was good, no doubt.
9/6/19, 11:31 PM - Given the dishwasher note do you think this may have been flawed? Seems like it.
9/7/19, 10:04 PM - I've had dishwater note in a wine only once and it was the actual wine - not the glass, that was tainted. Glad it's not a recurring theme. Cheers
9/12/19, 2:23 PM - So sorry for the late response. The wine was a 2010 Patassy Pinot Noir Green Valley of Russian River Valley. It's in my tasting notes and dates from 6/10/2014. I couldn't remember the name of the wine but, man, do I remember what it tasted like!
7/10/19, 8:18 PM - I agree with MC2 Wines, this sounds like a flawed bottle. Perhaps it isn't fair to give it a score of 85 when there is the option to score it as flawed on CT?
6/26/19, 12:50 PM - I have no idea what you're talking about. I just re-read my TN for the 2017 vintage and it's completely different from the note I wrote for the 2018. Thanks for reading my notes.
6/27/19, 12:06 AM - Touché. I meant the 2018, not 2017. Thanks for pointing out my faux pas. Cheers!
6/14/19, 6:50 PM - Is it possible that you had a flawed bottle? It seems your experience is an outlier among all the other notes logged on CT. I'm about to crack it open so we'll see..
6/10/19, 9:29 PM - Hahahahaaa
5/26/19, 8:55 PM - Good to know. I'll hold my bottle for a while.
5/24/19, 12:06 PM - I appreciate the kind words. Cheers!
5/14/19, 10:11 PM - Straightforward but always solid. This is one of the first Roses I bought when I first started exploring French rose. So classy of me back then..
5/13/19, 11:05 AM - "By the way, spending argon gas for a bottle like this is a waste of time and probably of money" Hahahahaaa.. Spot on, my friend!
5/7/19, 5:05 PM - No reason why this shouldn't be alive. I love this young but it develops lovely depth, weight, and complexity with a little bottle age.
5/2/19, 6:25 PM - That's so cool. It's funny because we are accustomed to picking up whatever foods we are exposed to, whether it be here or halfway across the world. I grew up in southern California and we had a loquat tree in the back yard. Lo and behold I smell and taste loquats in a lot of champagnes I drink. It's not a descriptor you read about in wine but to me it's so obvious. Good to hear your story. Cheers!
Thanks for letting us know about this problem. We will review your comments and be in touch soon with an update.
