A bit dirty on the nose, not corked but like old paper box smell. Medium body, red fruit on palette. OK btl but certainly expected more from an outstanding vintage.

Excellent stuff, very fruity and tons of flavor.

This seriously might be one of my favorite wines. It’s not the best I’ve ever had but it’s a consistently delicious drink and it’s always gone in a flash.
  • mpsocal commented:

1/6/21, 11:43 AM - Thanks for the kind words. Glad they've been helpful. I don't think I have decanted any of them so far and it goes great with or without food. The last one I had was with steak and it was a good pairing.

Pretty average stuff. Nothing I tasted would lead me to buy this wine again. There is much better New Zealand SB at this price point and below.
  • mpsocal commented:

12/7/20, 3:57 PM - With New Zealand SB, i prefer more acidic wines. Greywacke is one of my favorites, Whitehaven and Giesen are also good and should be relatively easy to find.

There are several others but they may be harder to find. Smith and Sheth, and Matahiwi are also very good.

  • mpsocal commented:

12/24/20, 7:10 PM - It is what it is. If you only care about professional reviews don’t read mine. That’s an average NZ SB. If you think it’s awesome , great, your palate sucks.

  • mpsocal commented:

    12/24/20, 7:42 PM - Not muuuuuch

  • mpsocal commented:

Pretty average stuff compared to the other drinks tonight. One of those nothing special nothing wrong wines.

It was bound to happen sooner or later. Something was wrong with this one. The funk never blew off.
  • mpsocal commented:

10/21/20, 10:09 AM - Dirty diaper mixed with barnyard mixed with old dish sponge. I've experienced the first two in wines and that usually burns off after a couple hours but no such luck with this one. Plus I've had several bottles of this wine and never got those aromas. The taste of the wine seemed off too.

Big bold but easy drinking. This is delicious and a great value.
  • mpsocal commented:

6/17/20, 6:30 AM - It would probably benefit from decanting but it’s still really good from the start.

This is a delicious wine. It’s seems light but with tons of flavor.
  • mpsocal commented:

6/2/20, 1:11 PM - Definitely. I hadn't even thought of that until you mentioned it. I would say it is more Burgundian than CDP.

  • mpsocal commented:

6/2/20, 4:16 PM - Try Grenache from Paso Robles. I would not consider any of that Burgundian.

  • mpsocal commented:

6/2/20, 7:13 PM - I’ve had some of my favorite Grenache from Edna Valley. It was an 08 or 09 Grenache from chamisal. One of my favorites.

I agree with litt12. It’s definitely similar to a California style but the good thing is it costs $30 instead of $90. I thought this was really good wine. Jeff Leve is right on with his notes.

10/6/19, 8:04 PM - I’ve been noticing it a bit of some Bordeaux lately. Seems like a trend that started in 2012 or 2014 for some wineries.

This might be an early indicator of where the 2009s are headed, fruit has dropped out of the middle leaving a sharp hollow shell. A real biting streak of acidity runs right through the palate and this wine really needs food to be enjoyable at all.
  • mpsocal commented:

2/1/19, 9:06 PM - Great description. This wine does feel hollow. I’ve never heard that before but it’s a perfect description especially with the acidity. You expect something after the acidity but it just dissapears.

I've tasted lots of Chamisal Pinot Noir. There seems to be lots of variation in their wines depending on the year. This year however is a good year and worth tasting/buying. Dark over ripe color medium mouthfeel yet extracted but not too much. Lots of spice, cloves berry, chocolate & earth. You won't be disappointed you bought this wine as it is very good. FYI..if you've rated this wine 82 or lower you need to quit posting because you don't know crap about wine.

Delicious! Delicious! Delicious! It may very well be my favorite QPR wine of all time. Were does one begin? The pretty nose, exquisite color, depth and subtly that makes this definitely correct wine a jewel and pleasure to drink. Can't believe it's a 2nd wine as it does not taste at all like one... I have been queuing this, Angelus's 2nd and Duo Conseillante over the past few weeks... All 2014s. All excellent, but this one pops right out of the gate... Ohh 27 more to go! :) :) :) ...

A pleasant medium-bodied port. Sweet prune-plum flavors, and well balanced. The neck label on the bottle states that this LBV port was made by the same producer of a port that scored 99 and was ranked the #1 wine of the year by Wine Spectator in 2014. That surely isn't this bottle! Worth the price, but not any lofty score.
  • mpsocal commented:

2/22/18, 5:41 PM - The Vintage port was wine of year they not the LBV

Toasty, spicy nose...citrus and some perfume, very noticable. Wow...strong flavors too. Moderate to somewhat dense mouthfeel. Ripe pit fruit, citrus, honey. Bright acidity. Very fresh, not at all over the hill. There is a lot going on in this wine. I got it for $9 from Winex and sure wish I had gotten more.
  • mpsocal commented:

7/19/17, 9:00 PM - I got mine at winex too. Killer deal.

From the Winemaker: Our 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is delicious and compelling, possessing nuanced ripe fruit, complex spice, an unctuous, round mid-palate and a finish that is balanced between varietal fruit notes and tannic intensity. Cabernet sauvignon blocks planted to clones 15, 4, 6, 337, and our own Rock Arch vineyard selection were harvested between September 23rd and October 22nd and fermented in individual stainless steel vats. After gentle pressing, the wines were aged in French oak (50% new) for 19 months before being blended with 8% merlot from our Wind Whistle block and 4% petit verdot from One Acre Hill, one of the highest elevation spots on the property. The final blend expresses ripe fruit notes ranging from blackberry to plum and cassis, as well as nuances of bay laurel, chocolate, black tea, brown sugar, graphite and crushed rose petal. The texture in the mouth is definitely that of a mountain wine, with size and concentration to balance the richness and opulence of its round mid-palate.

Exudes fresh strawberries and purple sage with just a hint of white pepper. It's garnet color is that of a classic grenache but the tangerine on the finish, firm tannin structure, and perfect balance of the wine are unique notes.

Really lovely; after 90-minute decant, prominent strawberry, balanced with acidity, and very, very light in body. Improved even further over next 60-90 minutes, with additional earthy notes filling out an already impressive flavor profile.
  • mpsocal commented:

1/1/13, 7:26 PM - Me too. Whitcraft has become very inconsistent.
