Ripe citrus and orchard fruit profile. Dense on the palate with great acidity. My only problem right now is the oak. This needs at least 8-10 years to integrate the abundant oak that is imparting oak spice notes of vanilla, clove, and cinnamon, unless you don't mind drinking oak juice, of course. 94+ potential if the wood integrates.

Briljante wijn!

Brilliant wine! It doesn't get any better than this. But this bottle is just less than the bottle I tasted at the end of 2021! See my previous tasting note on this wine.Drink now! Enjoy now!
Sometimes patience leads to frustration ;)

Decent Sauv Blanc for the price. Nose is floral, not overwhelming. Crisp, but not bone dry. Finish is pretty short.

Kleur: Diep ondoordringbaar robijnrood Aroma / bouquet: Wow. Een explosie van aroma’s. Een super-subtiele versie van boerenjongens. Vleesjus. Krachtig. Donkere chocola. 50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 14 + Smaak / Afdronk: 20 + Algemeen / potentieel: 10 = 99/100

Color: Bright ruby red Aroma / bouquet: Intense, pleasant and complex nose with characteristics of an old world Bordeaux blend. Cherries, blackberries, black currants, refined wood, hints of vanilla. Taste / Finish: Wow. Also on the palate, this '16 Sas is intense, pleasant and complex. Pleasant, subtly lactic acidity. Beautifully aged, polished tannins. Long finish. Incredibly delicious. Overall / potential: This wine borders on perfection. Not because of an extreme concentration, but precisely because of the ultimate softness and balance. I could have easily 'recognized' this wine as a high cru from the left bank of the Bordeaux area. 50 + Color: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 14 + Taste / Finish: 20 + Overall / potential: 10 = 99/100

4/30/21, 1:20 AM - Quite frankly, I have had a preference for very aged wines and tertiary aromas for a long time. However, I increasingly discover that 1) At a tertiary stage, wines increasingly resemble each other 2) the aging potential of some (especially New World, but also Spain, for example) still has its limits and 3) how incredibly beautiful wines can be in earlier stages. And sometimes it is very difficult to pass up a wine ;-). And this will also be a challenge with this Sassicaia .... ;-)

First time drinking white Bordeaux.
I enjoyed it despite my aversion to Sauvignon Blanc.
Crisp and acidic, with pear and nectarine.
Well balanced
Was paired with sushi - maybe pair with Thai food or pizza next time.
Alex didn’t enjoy it much compared to Chardonnay
  • WildeMeeuw commented:

    1/31/21, 11:18 AM - Why compare a Sémillion with Chardonnay? ;-)
Different wines, different styles, both classic.
    But indeed incomparable!
Won't go well with pizza (tomatoes need acidity, melted cheese needs tannins).

dark red, garnet rim - intense blackberry nose, eucalyptus mintiness similar to a CA cabernet - full rich mouth with good acid tannin fruit balance - medium length finish - a very nice mature wine that has developed nicely since my last bottle in 2018, but not the complexity I would expect (or at least hope for) from an 18-year old St. Emilion

This rich and tense wine offers incredible depth and freshness for a second wine at the 10-year mark. Dark red in color and medium in body, the wine offers intriguing aromas of blackberry, bay leaf, mint, and anise. Tastes of blueberry, cocoa powder, pencil lead, and gravel, with a lingering finish that carries somewhat grainy, silty tannins.

I know that praising Bond is like praising the Yankees, but good is good... and this is damn good. There is a balance and richness here that I haven't found in many second wines - not too ripe, not too thin, just right. This is in its drinking window now, so open in the next few years. 14.5% alcohol.

Time to check into this one again. Quite deeply coloured in the black raspberry range grading to garnet as it thins towards the edge. Merde, smoky mulberry, black currant leaf, light sandalwood, graphite and leather on the nose. Medium bodied, very smooth, well integrated acidity and a dry finish. The flavours are dark plum skin, black currant, suede and tree mulch. Still some powdery tannins on the finish that feels a bit dried out and somewhat astringent. Overall still quite tasty and surprisingly good for the vintage, although it is definitely starting to show its age.

Drinking wonderfully right now. My last bottle. More elegant than power vintages 2005/2007. Ripe black and red fruit, leather, herbs and a certain earthiness.

50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 11 + Smaak / Afdronk: 19 + Algemeen / potentieel: 9 = 94/100

Color: Ruby red. Aroma / bouquet: Refined and delicate bouquet. Not very expressive, but beautifully complex .. Taste / Aftertaste: Wow. Delicious. Sassicaia is in my opinion never disappointing but never great. This 2004 is an exception. Classic bouquet. Nice fresh acidity. Brilliantly ripened tannins, on the one hand sufficient 'bite' for the structure of this wine, on the other hand butter soft and licorice. Really very beautiful, on the one hand sturdy, on the other refined and delicate. General / potential: As far as I am concerned, one of the most beautiful Sassicaias I have ever tasted. 50 + Color: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 11 + Taste / Finish: 19 + General / potential: 9 = 94/100

Last bottle, drank on 17th-18th May 2010. Cork in pristine condition, colourful, shades/impressions of orange on the rim.
Good, and even more than simply good. Still powerful with grip, not very complex but with volume, long. Hints of spice.
What is less good is a lack of precision towards the end and some excessive bitterness - and I am usually fond of bitterness. The wine was in good shape and it could have lasted up to 5 more years - if cellared in proper conditions.
Warning: a bottle like this might be found at bargain prices, anything up to 25 € would be worth of consideration; but this was the only good bottle I got out of 4 I purchased, the others were tainted. So ...
  • WildeMeeuw commented:
