This was in that vein. Lower acid, high on the grassy notes. Missing the fruit here which I sometimes find compelling in this grape. Just maybe a touch of mineral but that could have been power of suggestion as well. Not my style although I can see people liking it.

Well-aged with good flavors of smoky black fruits and truffles but a bit lean for what I’m looking for in aged Pomerol. Don’t get me wrong, this is elegant and well-made but lacks the expansive texture and excitment of the best wines from this commune, at least in this vintage.

Popped one of these to take a peak. I tasted on opening and over 2-3 hours before and with prime rib. Really did not show itself until end of bottle, but very nice wine. Not a head knocking powerhouse, but very well made and structured. Fruit takes a while to unveil as expected and oak not overwhelming. I'll try to wait another year at least before opening another. Too early to score but good potential here. Thanks smig et al!

Inky dark purple, light savory nose, some blackberries. Dry tart savory blackberry with tobacco and leather. A bit of raw bitter for starters and needs some time to mellow a bit. Went well with braised pork chops and grilled veggies. I do not find this as offensive as most of the posters, so if you want to ship yours prepaid, I will accept all you want to send. They will get good with more age. 87 pts on night one.

A serious wine - serious in its structure and serious in the flavor and enjoyment departments, too. Darker ruby color, no age to the rim. Youthful, very expressive nose of ripe dark cherries, an explosion of red and purple floral, and earthy, dusty leather notes. The palate is as bold as the nose, and it takes little time before the structure asserts itself. For the moment, I'm content to enjoy the cascades of aromas - the palate is quite fine (actually it's beautiful), but not yet ready, at least not in the way I prefer my Brunello wines (recently had a 1995 Palazzone, it was perfect/ready). Really shows a masterful blend between disciplined winegrowing and clever choices in the cellar. highly recommended

Aerated to decanter for 3 hours, served non-blind, just above cellar temp.

Drank off the wine list at Din Tai Fung in Orange County. This is an easy wine which went surprisingly well with the standard dumplings and even better with the taro Shia Long Bao that I had for dessert. Perhaps it's the hint of sweet. Lots of white floral. Mostly honeysuckle. Moderate acidity. Wine that pairs with food and pretty well. Also didn't punish me for throwing in a bit of jasmine tea.

Rule the Rhone; 10/27/2016-11/3/2016 (Northern & Southern Rhone): Beautiful, beautiful wine. We opened prob a few hours before and then decanted right before pouring and this wine was evolving in the glass but already open enough to appreciate. Didn't take great detailed notes - just enjoyed on a porch in the middle of the Rhone right after sunset with some friends. But I do remember thinking it was a nicely balanced wine and while more intense than the '04 Rayas Pignon that came before it, in that same quality level if different style. More darker fruit and a bit more earthy as well. Enjoyed.

750ml; Pnp and followed for over 24 hours. Very light red, appearance verging on a dark rose wine from Provence. I liked this better on the second night - first night after opening it seemed pretty closed and shy. it was more open and fruity the second night, with strawberry and rhubarb aromas. Flavors were very light and bright, with cherry, strawberry and rhubarb (without the sourness). Good and fun wine, but I'm not sure I understand this wine entirely as this was my first Trousseau. Will try a couple others someday I am sure...

Consumed over 2 days, note from day 2. Nose: Medium expressiveness, black berry, blueberry, Asian spice, dark flowers, tobacco, and shoe leather - quite a bit going on here and all is interesting. Palate: Medium-full bodied, spicy blue and black fruit attack, good mid-palate persistence with a spice driven lift, leather and earthy components appear through the back-end joining in a medium-plus length finish - 30 to 45 seconds. Improved noticeably on day two.

2013 Clos du Val Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
Tons of mocha, coffee, wood on the nose. There's also plenty of structure showing on the palate with the addition of some earth, dark ripe fruit, and nice acidity. The dark purple and black fruit is sitting just underneath the structure. Something I noticed when tasting the 2010 last year, but this is a bit riper and more vibrant, and maybe a little less noise and not as tannic.

With some air, more vanilla on the nose, and sweeter dark berry fruit coming out on the palate. Not doing as well as it warms, with the oak slightly more apparent than the heat. Medium tannin and finish. Good to very good, and definitely a nice value play if you like straight ahead Napa Cab. Wouldn't hold this much past ten years however.

750ml; PnP; decanted and then immediately Zalto'd. Opaque purple color w/out bricking. Nose of dark fruit, slight green pepper, dusty soil. Flavors of blackberry, blueberry, strawberry, hints of cocoa, very slight anise, and big a$$ tannins. Alcohol is present but not obtrusive, and acidity is there to keep this big boy rolling for another 5 yrs. After that, I might suppose the fruit will wane prior to the tannins. These are my impressions after 1/2 hour open. YMMV.
  • BornToRhone commented:

7/24/15, 7:51 PM - Day 2 follow-up: sensing a bit more spice in the fruit than yesterday and the fruits are more blackberryish. Still a bit stiff in the tannin and alcohol department. Red
2013 Montalbera Ruché di Castagnole Monferrato La Tradizione
PnP. Murky ruby color, with aromas of rose water, Off! bug spray, new rubber ducky, soil, and with some swirling, sweet red currants and rhubarb. Medium(-) palate, with above-average persistence, but in need of additional definition on the mid-palate; flavors of Rhubarb and cherry phosphate. Probably better to stick with antipasti than it is to pair this with a primi or secondi. By the second glass, this has become quite pretty and in the way that Ruché can, it becomes elegant, too; dry, with ripe, thin tannins. A lovely Ambassador for the tiny village of Castagnole and the humble Monferrato. Quite brilliantly balanced, too; a definite reload. 13,5% abv., thru 2016. recommended

Served non-blind. I'll save the 2nd half of the bottle for tomorrow's lunch and update with anything of note.

this was up with the almighty 95 Krug and 2004 DP. Both the DP vintages had 2 bottles at the table. Amazing stuff. Showing darker than the 2004, but with almost every flavor 2004 had and acidity to match. If it wasn't for the darker color, the mouthfeel is so light. I've done many notes on this but once again showing of champagne greats are stored cold and dark they age so slowly and rock the house. Tight fruits but toasted pastry keeps everything evolving and through and through enjoyable. Hard to drink and smile so hard.
Just behind the Krug in impressiveness with stiff competition. Excellent finish lasted longer than 2004, but 2004 is no slacker either.
