I am never too enamored with B cellars Pinot. I prefer Old world style Pinot and perhaps asking Kirk Venge to change his winemaking style of boldness in your face for Pinot is too much...

This Pinot comes across as confused; is it Pinot? Or is it trying to be Cab? Smokey, too tannic and muted floral makes it difficult to appreciate B cellar's Pinots compare to their amazing cabs.

really like this wine...it reminds us why we joined the twisted few. The Spanish grapes from Twisted Oak are what keeping us come back. This is, in our humble (we-don't-know-what-we're-talking-about) opinion, our favorite Tempranillo from Twisted Oak. On the nose: spicy...maybe some pepper. on the palate, spice, a little cherry, but mostly spice... spice on the finish. maybe not as bold as The Thief, from the same vintage, but across the board, their best Tempranillo.

8/14/22, 8:37 AM - If you really like this wine and you think it is their best Tempranillo, why did you only rate it 83? Your description doesn't seem to match your rating.

This is a delicious Edna Valley Pinot that has the full fruit but still retains some of the light earthy notes of a quality Pinot. Soft and smooth.

2/6/22, 10:23 AM - You had two very different reviews about a month apart. Did you make a mistake with one of the reviews? I agree with your June 2021, 91 point review. I think it nailed the wine.

Big blue and black fruit, cocoa, florals and leather. Weighty with ripe tannin and fleshy structure. This is getting a bit manipulated these days for my taste, but delicious in its youth nonetheless.

12/26/21, 6:28 AM - Just received this as a gift. My wife, WSET level III certified wine snob :), uses the same word as you, manipulated, on some wines she tastes and in the same context as you. How interesting. We will watch for that when we try the wine. Thanks for your honest review.

Taste of lime. Floral notes. Very acidic and appetizing. Light, appetizer wine.

5/24/20, 6:58 AM - Was the 78 a mistake? Based on your review, perhaps you meant 88?

This was delightful. Delicious fruit, good acidity, slight efervescence. Super fresh and food friendly. Worked wonders when paired with hamachi kama. I should buy more.

2012 Elio Altare Barolo Nebbiolo
Soft and flush of fruit. "Beginners Barolo" is the term that comes to mind but I don't mean it as an insult to Silvia or anyone else. Enough fruit and concentration that a Napa Cab drinker can makes sense of it, yet still has the edge and power of Barolo.

An okay Rioja, nothing special
  • K&J commented:

7/31/17, 4:41 PM - How can you like the wine but give it only a 70? I would think a 'nothing special' wine should get at least an 83 or 84 since it was okay (assuming nothing was wrong with it).

Big grape flavor with cherry, raspberry (think Bonny Doon Framboise) blackberry etc., also fairly heavy undercurrent of tannin, tobacco, oak sharpness which is a little too forward, too sharp, but not too bad

Keenan promotes this as a light blend for summer. My friends and I found it bland. It's not bad, but better wines are available for the price. The viognier and albarino seem to detract from the chardonnay rather than complement it.

Sehr dicht, viel Schmelz, konzentrierte Frucht und ganz langer Abgang. Etwas modern, dank ordentlichen Tanninen aber sehr bekömmlich. Exzellent.

Crazy aromatic. Red fruit. Little hot. tannins evident. Give 5 years. LOVE IT. Amazing. Weak vintage? Didn't show it.

Clear and bright, pale lemon-green colour and presence of legs. The nose is clean and youthful with medium intensity aromas of ripe apricots, green apple, banana and orange blossom. The wine is dry with a medium+ acidity, medium alcohol, medium- body and medium intensity flavours of ripe apricots, green apple, banana and orange blossom. Medium+ finish.

It is an acceptable quality wine with a decent finish, but it lacks complexity and fruit concentration, the acidity is somewhat unbalanced with its moderate body and dryness. Drink now, but it has potential to develop a bit in the next 1-2 years.

10/8/14, 4:44 PM - I fully agree with your second paragraph. I gots to know - how many points would you rate it?
