5/17/24, 4:29 PM - Great note....thanks for taking one early for the team @CobraCommander.
4/15/24, 10:55 AM - Cheers and enjoy it. It was as smooth as silk and in a great drinking window for me.
4/6/24, 6:54 AM - 100% agree. I might have another one tonight. Exquisite wine đ· and literally silky smooth with velvety tannins. Absolute rockstar so when I see some of the other recent reviews I am perplexed by what I am reading. I may have even underrated this wine. I loved it!
4/8/24, 3:34 PM - I opened at the restaurant and left it on the table (cork popped) for an hour and drank over the next couple of hours. No decant.....restaurant I went to didn't have one available and I went there not exactly knowing what the group would want us open.
4/8/24, 4:30 PM - Yes, I bought four originally and was with one of the Assistants that helped make the wine this past weekend back in the day. I hope my remaining three taste anywhere near this level. I intend to drink these soon because of the bottle variation noted in some comments. It was a very challenging year in Napa that year as you already know. :)
1/13/24, 2:24 PM - Highly recommend opening it. All these 2014 Napaâs I have tasted recently have been outstanding. It is my go to vintage currently for a bottle that I know for certain will be great!
12/29/23, 5:50 PM - Thanks for the nice note. Happy New Year đđđ my friend!!
11/29/23, 4:31 AM - Good point on the winemaking style. I have had a few Hourglass bottlings over the years and enjoyed them all but this was the best of the batch. Just too many good producers that it makes it impossible to buy them all. I am trying over the next few years to narrow my selections to a few amazing favorites so that my cellar is deep and still varied but not as crazy as it is currently. Appreciate the note!
11/29/23, 10:44 AM - 46 currently and already have wine to last four lifetimes. :)Its fun though!
11/15/23, 8:52 PM - Great notes on this wine and the Myriad. Really appreciate your overview.
11/29/23, 4:28 AM - On the Sherwin, if you open it back in the past Sherwin would recap and darken it for you to keep as a display for a nominal fee. Call them and see if they do that and drink that baby. The 2012's were drinking nicely but still had plenty of time left when I last had one a few years ago. It was one of the Sherwin's best vintages but the 2014's are off the charts. :)
11/29/23, 4:25 AM - Agree wholeheartedly. An under the radar producer especially when you think of some of the vineyards they were sourcing from (Star, Progeny, Armstrong, Paras, Steinhauer, etc....) I still have about forty or so still in my cellar. Trying to get to them but don't drink as much as I collect. Thanks for the comment and hope our paths cross to share a bottle.
9/13/23, 2:41 PM - I think window is likely more along the line of 2026 through 2037 for me. My bottle seemed a little tight but was still really good.
9/13/23, 11:37 PM - I didnât buy the most recent release but from memory, I believe they went up just a bit but I could be remembering the price with tax and shipping estimated in my calculations. Also, I paid about $85 including tax on closeout for the bottle being discussed. I just saw that aspect of your question and realize I forgot to answer. I think the seller wanted to clear their remaining bottles. The Chardonnay was magnificent.
4/28/23, 6:27 PM - I paid $55 all in for it but normally $95 plus shipping and tax.
4/28/23, 6:41 PM - Bought mine at auction. It was great QPR for what I paid. I think many who may have saw it at auction either thought it was the usual Pinot or had never heard of this vineyard. Great bottle and sad I didnât try to buy more when it was available
2/10/23, 6:11 PM - Did you intend to give it a score of 77. Only asking because your score does not match the comments above.
2/10/23, 8:48 PM - ThanksâŠI bought some of those mystery bottles as well so it is good to hear you enjoyed it so much
12/2/22, 10:16 AM - Big fan of O'Shaughnessy. They always over deliver for the price! Had one of these recently and would share your sentiment
6/8/22, 5:01 PM - Couldn't agree with you more edg2017. Thanks for the comments. I hope to steer more people their direction. I find myself that when I have to bring a bottle that I know will meet my standards, they are usually one of my first choices.
6/10/22, 11:45 AM - Same plan for me and I agree Matt and Donna are both awesome folks. Hope I bump into you on your next trip. Sounds like we enjoy the same wines and make the same types of food plans on our visits.
1/2/22, 9:34 AM - Yes, sadly they dissolved their program together and I believe Russell Bevan will be either consulting or making their wines beginning with Carterâs 2021 vintage but only the winery would know for absolute certainty. The Ancillary wines I have opened recently have been excellent. Only have a few left.
11/25/21, 1:29 PM - My only regret was that I didnât bid on them all. If I did though, I might not have enjoyed the bottle. That is how the wine gods work. Enjoy yours my friend. Looking forward to your note.
11/23/21, 10:12 AM - Thirsty1 - thanks for the followup note. I agree completely with everything you stated. An underrated wine but one that is quite good. Hope to have another one of these sometime soon.
11/5/21, 2:59 PM - This is an exceptional Rose. Great tasting note. I have tasted a few and have a case still to open. A wonderful wine!!
11/5/21, 3:47 PM - This may be a one and done based on my last conversation with them about it but I hope not. My wife loves Rose and Realm so I hope there are subsequent vintages. I always enjoy your reading tasting notes. Hope you have a marvelous weekend!!
10/25/21, 10:50 PM - JCAMPANO....you nailed it...thanks for the note on the 15's. Haven't opened any of mine yet because of the tannins in this vintage. O'Shaughnessy pound for pound is making some exceptional wines over the past decade. Not sure of too many at the same price point are currently in their league. Been on the list a while now....their top notch wines as well as customer service to match (Kristen and Martha...looking at both of you) make them the best of the best for me as well.
8/1/21, 1:50 PM - A friend shared this bottle last night and it was outstanding. An exceptional bottling and I am mad I didnât buy some during the release. I prefer reds but when whites taste like this they get my attention. I will try to find some on the secondary market.
6/13/21, 9:59 PM - That magic show was pretty awesome.
4/23/21, 10:37 AM - Great note....thanks for the detail. May have to try one of mine soon to compare.
4/28/21, 2:51 PM - Great comments to both of you. Really enjoyed this 2016. I will have trouble not drinking mine. :)
4/27/21, 6:13 AM - Agree with you wholeheartedly. I have heard the same thing on the 2018 from Will himself. I bought a bunch of 2018âs. đ
3/12/21, 10:21 PM - JJB007 - looks like my friends and I need to come over so you entertain more. Thanks for sharing your feedback on these infants. What did you think in terms of aging potential on this one?
2/8/21, 7:58 PM - Enjoyed reading your review. I would say that based on my palate that with most Bedrocks Syrah's that five to six years from bottling is when they are best. My bet is this is still going to take some time to get where it will end up. I am just beginning to open 2012's as an example. Just thought I might help add some basic advise for those who have Bedrock's in their cellar. I will likely try this bottle in 2023-2026 myself.
2/9/21, 1:54 PM - Thanks for sharing the notes. I think you will be extremely pleased with some of the ones you hang onto for a bit. They take on a new life once they shed the baby fat. Can't think of many bottles that didn't meet or exceed expectations. Bedrock = amazing QPR for my money!!
12/31/20, 1:19 PM - Popped and poured this one around 3pm and finished it around 6:30pm drinking a small amount and sharing with some friends over the same period. It was by itself in terms of food for several hours until some Asian fusion food was introduced to the small gathering around 6:15 or so. In essence, it was all by itself that we enjoyed it. Also, I didn't decant it at all and my bottle didn't seem to need it.
10/3/20, 10:24 PM - Completely understand why you like it Mark. I have had bottles of Sojourn before but never this bottling. It was terrific and made me figure out what I have been missing in their more traditional and widely distributed wines. Might have to pay them a visit based on the quality expressed in this bottle. Saved 1/4 bottle for tomorrow to see what day two holds. This was really top notch. Thanks for the reply. I really enjoy reading your reviews since we have a decent amount of the same wines. đ
9/30/20, 4:56 AM - Yes, I bought about a case of them at auction. May have been for restaurants but I find these 375's are perfect for a night at home or a small restaurant when I likely will be the lone consumer or will be giving just a smaller pour to someone else. Gives you just enough and you can still try a wine on the list or bring a 750 for others that may prefer a different varietal (Sauv Blanc, Chardonnay, or Pinot) and give them a taste of something different. Thanks for sending the note and the friend request. Cheers!
4/3/20, 2:40 PM - Mark1npt nailed it! This wine is made for my grandkids.
6/7/20, 9:17 AM - If you are out of space, I will give you my address. Send whatever you need to. Lol đ
10/30/19, 8:16 PM - Makes me think you might have a bad bottle or one that didn't take hold because Bedrock's wines typically are in their zone about 4-8 years from bottling. I would be interested to see what you think of bottle 2. Wishing you a better bottle two. Cheers!
8/7/19, 1:50 PM - Rivers-Marie Sonoma Coast Pinots are just an amazing bargain and one of the best everyday values. My only regret each year is not buying more. Glad to see you appreciated how great the 2014 was.
8/4/19, 2:32 AM - The wet cardboard is usually a sign that the cork may be bad. I definitely think as you stated that this particular bottle likely was a bad one.
7/3/19, 1:54 PM - RichEB1 nailed it. The folks behind Bedrock always suggest having their wines four years from vintage on the single vineyards so give any other bottles you may have a little time. I think you might have a different opinion if you do.
5/12/19, 11:14 PM - Bedrock wines are the real deal. As good a wine producer as there is. They just do an amazing job and the prices are extremely reasonable. Their Syrahâs and field blends are just marvelous. Most often I find them best after 2-3 years in the cellar. Glad you enjoyed your first bottle and hope more will be headed your direction.
3/23/19, 11:29 AM - StraightnoChaser: Completely agree with your assessment. These have always been terrific bottles to open. Glad you concur and have found them to be as great as I have. Hope we get to share a bottle together someday. Cheers!
3/8/19, 3:36 PM - I agree with Schlaepdog on this one. This was a tremendous wine several years ago. Likely just a bad bottle since the bottle I tasted was tight and needed more time. Taste another one soon as I would love to see if this was just an off bottle.
2/6/19, 5:53 PM - DoubleD, With Scarecrow wines, I recommend drinking them several (5+) years after release would be best. Most Scarecrowâs I have had are just too tight to enjoy on release for my palate. Just a recommendation for you if you get the chance to enjoy another. Wishing you all the best!
1/28/19, 5:22 PM - Sorry to hear about your husband's passing. Wishing you all the best as you grieve and hope you get the chance to reminisce about all the great memories you and your family enjoyed. My deepest condolences and hope he blesses you with many wonderful bottles from heaven in his new role as God's angel from above.
8/22/17, 5:59 PM - Ray T - completely agree with your assessment. Thanks for the comment!Cheers my friend.
8/22/17, 5:57 PM - Thanks for the comment. I thought it might be more ready simply because it was in a 375. Have you noticed any variation between 375 and 750 bottles.
7/29/16, 5:51 PM - My fault. I purchase very few Syrahs from Bedrock so it was just force of habit. Mega culpa on me.
11/10/13, 4:40 PM - Your description was actually a little better than my poorly worded one. I was not taking about the sugar more the fruit forward feel of the wine. I will edit my comments so that any confusion is avoided.
8/1/13, 11:11 PM - Popped and poured through Vinturi. Decided to open a half bottle. As another poster mentioned, this was a last minute addition to dinner that was pulled from the cellar after a busy and seemingly never ending work week. This needed some time to open up but after it did it was excellent. You can taste the dark fruit structure (blackberry, cherry, along with hints of molasses and chocolate that add a little sweetness to this one. Softer tannins than I expected and it was extremely smooth throughout my bottle experience. A nice lengthy pronounced finish that leaves you wanting more of it. Another outstanding Kathryn Hall. One of my favorite cabs....still love the 06 and 08 better than this one but it is darn good. Highly recommended as usual. Just wish the price had not skyrocketed over the past few years on these since they used to be around $65 for club members before the iconic 08 WS 96 but now sell for $100+ almost everywhere and the 2010 vintage will be $125. All in all though a great wine.
Thanks for letting us know about this problem. We will review your comments and be in touch soon with an update.
