3/4/24, 10:36 PM - Think it was volatile acidity?
12/4/23, 9:32 PM - i fear the '99s and '05s will never be ready.
7/19/23, 12:26 PM - shh! Dont tell people its underpriced! Champagne has already gone crazy lately, lol..
4/8/23, 10:39 PM - sounds alot like where the 1999 was back in 2015. Give the next bottles a few more years.
12/23/22, 11:20 PM - Can you explain your note? I'm confused by your reference of both fruit and mild oxidation while calling it flawed. I would expect some early mature notes at this stage. Thanks.
4/29/22, 7:10 PM - Just wondering. Were these heat damaged, corked, have volatile acidity or something else? Thanks!
4/23/22, 9:49 PM - This needs at least 10 more years. Looks for 2002s, maybe the 2004s may be starting to turn the corner.
1/22/22, 6:44 PM - any idea whether it would allow O2 ingress? I generally like these after a couple years, but if it doesnt evolve, this might be my last buy.
12/3/21, 4:54 PM - Did you really have this open for 8 days?
12/2/21, 10:47 PM - I was going to give this a few more years in bottle as I like aged champagnes. I assume this didnt have any mature notes yet?
11/30/21, 10:17 PM - Thanks, sounds like a have a few more years left on my 2 Jeroboams.
4/29/21, 1:56 PM - Thanks. I almost opened this last night, but I think I'll give these at least another year in the cellar.
12/6/20, 7:59 PM - interesting. My "cork" was very, very hard to pull out. But the wine itself seemed a touch advanced and flat.
9/27/20, 2:02 PM - Thanks for the note! The icon is for skin-contact white wines or "orange" wines.
9/16/20, 10:53 PM - Thanks for the note! I think I have these bottles in a box marked 2030. Glad to see they will make it.
5/8/20, 10:15 PM - I think you are correct. I kept thinking demi-sec when I pulled it from the cellar. Like I said... good wine, but I was expecting a touch more stuffing, not just sweetness, but in the body.
3/22/20, 12:03 PM - What base year was this? Thanks!
12/30/19, 7:26 PM - I notice most of the notes are in french. This seems more savory, autolytic. Maybe not something that does well in france? Seems more english in style.
11/14/19, 10:22 AM - Why post 3 scores in 1 year?
6/2/19, 8:06 PM - Was this given any decant? If so what would you recommend? Thanks!
5/19/19, 6:56 PM - Did you get a bad bottle? Shocked that his would be too old. Its only 15 yrs old!
5/17/19, 5:38 PM - I found that at a restaurant in Westchester NY. They put it on the list as an Easter egg for wine nerds. Only $80 on the list!! I subsequently bought a couple more.
5/4/19, 7:39 PM - interestingly, I have no idea when Ganevat's savagnin bottlings hit maturity. Oldest I've had is about 8 yrs, and they still seem super young.
10/30/18, 9:55 PM - Question, how do you think this would pair with Thai food? Thanks!
11/6/18, 11:35 AM - ah, well I'm looking for unusual pairings for a Thai dinner, so was thinking this might work, but sounds like it won't. Thanks!
9/29/18, 8:22 PM - Where did you have a 5L of Dunn?!
9/30/18, 9:15 PM - Wish we could have gone, but we just got back from Spain. Looks like it was great! I will PM you!
6/19/18, 12:10 PM - Its probably a vintage thing. 2003=hot.
10/3/17, 9:10 PM - Interesting, I am down to my last couple of 2011s and I thought they were still holding well. Do you think this is already going downhill? I wasn't even going to try to drink the 2015s for a year or so.
8/19/17, 11:24 AM - We took it to a restaurant, so didnt decant before. As I said, It got better and better. If your bottle is like mine was, I would decant for 2 hrs. That would allow 2 people see it evolve over a long dinner. If it would be pours for multiple people, I would decant for 3.
8/12/17, 9:54 PM - Well, I don't have quite as many data points as you, but I've had bunch of 20+yr old Felsinas and this blew them out of the water. I guess the only complaint could be that it had too much fruit, but I found it balanced, especially with a spicy arriabbiata sauce.
4/19/17, 6:19 PM - what do you think the window is on this? I packed mine away for 2020.
4/6/17, 9:46 AM - Do you think this would benefit from more time?
3/21/17, 3:08 PM - what was wrong? Ox'd?
2/23/17, 7:25 AM - Yup. I love all of Ganevat's fun weird red blends. Not too pricey either.
2/24/17, 7:42 AM - The fun simpler ones are all similar in style. Le jaja du ben, Madelon, and J'en veux encore are also all good. In whites, I really, really recommend L'Ailleurs, and the 100% Rien que du fruit is super fun.
2/23/17, 7:23 AM - I love her Il Frappato but its getting pricey. I saw it at a store the other day for just under $50! crazy.
2/16/17, 7:19 AM - Was this the original bottling with the paper label, or the newer release with the small stick-on letters? Thanks!
2/6/17, 8:02 PM - Ha, no! This is really a good wine, if you like larger wines. I find that they have a time and place. 93 may have been a bit generous, but Hellowine and I really couldn't remember a sauv. blanc we liked better.
2/2/17, 7:46 AM - Interesting. Very different when I had the same wine a few days ago. Based upon the bottle I had, and trying much older Raffault Picasses, I thought it needed more time.
12/14/16, 10:12 AM - So this is doing well? I figured it needed some more time.
7/16/16, 10:10 PM - was this the recent re-release, or the original? Thanks!
7/17/16, 10:04 AM - The original release had the bottle with paper labels, the same as the 1st picture in the wine profile pic (left upper side of wine description). If you goto picture 2, you see the recent release with the individual stickers for each portion of the label.
5/12/16, 6:50 PM - Great comment. I've loved Eagles Trace. Both the 38 and std. cab. No idea why it doesn't get wider love.
4/6/16, 7:56 PM - Fascinating. That would explain the huge variability that people have seen in this wine, and explain why Decanter loved it so much. Thanks!
4/7/16, 10:46 AM - @ Lars A. Its hard to say, I guess I would wonder what the normal production levels are on the wine. The bottles I have are in the 197,000s and to me they didnt match closely with the Decanter review article (which I happen to have). I dont know the rules in Rioja on whether they can buy 2001 bulk gran reserva wines from others and bottle it as others.
3/9/16, 7:26 PM - Thanks. I loved the 2005 last year, so I was hoping the newer vintages have similar aging potential.
2/25/16, 12:00 PM - dry red fetus doesnt sound very good. lol
1/12/16, 6:47 AM - I did not decant. I rarely decant older pinot or Burgs. Maybe just open and taste it 1/2-1 hr before you plan to start drinking it and let it sit in bottle. Seemed to be the sweet spot. But I would certainly taste it upon opening. Older bottles are all different so you need to use your judgement.
11/5/15, 6:54 PM - maybe it was heat damaged? Sounds like it.
6/7/15, 1:43 PM - You can still find it on the market. I think Pearsons in DC still has it.
5/1/15, 7:44 PM - Yup, I was very sad as well. I've loved all his wines.
4/30/15, 2:11 PM - Big fan of this producer, and especially this cuvee. Such a good wine at an amazing price.
3/13/15, 9:54 AM - you are welcome, unless you don't like them. In which case I would like to point out that at 25 years old, there is no good wine, only good bottles... :)
1/12/15, 9:43 AM - One of my favorites as well and I buy it every year. You can find this in the US. Check winesearcher.
