Used the Durand to remove cork witch was mostly intact. Wine of dried prune and raisin. Leather and graphite dominated. No fading at the rim which was surprising to me as the fill was low shoulder. 89 at this point. An enjoyable wine given its age. Opened for Doug another '49 vintage.

Horribly corked. I was hoping to enjoy a bottle after holding it in the cellar for 8 years.

Wine was in terrific shape. One of the benefits on buying on release and keeping the cellar at 54F. Took about an hour to open up. One of the best bottles of wine I have had. Blackberry and cherry with spice that was wonderful.

The fill was mid shoulder and appeared red in bottle. Cork totally wet to the top. Used the Durand and cork came out fine. Nice dark burgundy color but dead as a door nail. Watched in over 3 hours and did not improve. Worth a shot at $70.

Truely a very nice bottle. Bright yellow with no hints of oxidation. Stone fruits, lichee nut with a slight buttery finish. Last bottle of this wine. Could go for a number of years.

Moving some wine, found that the bottle was leaking so out it came for Christmas day. Opened the bottle by taking out the cork instead of taking the neck off. This was a Newcastle breweries bottled "Warne" as mentioned in M. Broadbent's book. Excellent bottle of port. Vanilla carmel flavors come through. If I had another bottle, would consider drinking sooner than later.

Correct bottle with fill just at the base of the neck. Good dark color with little bricking at the rim. No bret detected. Clack cherries and some violet on the nose. Tannins are still present. Good wine, nice data point. Have one bottle left.

Bought this at auction a year or so ago. Fill about 2 mm into neck. Label perfect. Opened last night using Ah-So. Cork branded Gloria 1966. Poured off about an ounce and found the wine to be correct. Re-corked with a rubber stopper and let slow oxygenate for 4 hours. Served in Bordeaux glasses. Crimson red to a purple. Slight bricking at the rim, but not brown. Very earthy, mushroom/ forest floor kind of smell. Fruit leaned toward plum and current. Drank over an hour or so with eight guests. Everyone enjoyed the wine. Only bottle. Ready to go as I don't think that it will last more than another 5 years or so.
