1/30/22, 6:58 AM - Tough to say. The other bottle was so good that it's probably worth the shot. That said I've had a lot of issues with Roulot bottles not showing well recently. Was curious to look back and quantify it and found that I've opened 15 bottles of Roulot in the past 2 years from vintages '09-'13 and 8 of the 15 were somewhere between too advanced and outright premoxed. The wines are so great when they're on so I keep trying but it's frustrating to say the least if it's a 50/50 bet for wines that are only about 10 years old...
8/30/21, 11:39 AM - Ha, my pleasure:) Have to imagine this phase will pass or it's just a little bit of bad luck with a couple of bottles in a row because several bottles back in the '17/'18 time frame were just fantastic and there's no reason to believe this wine shouldn't be great for a very long time (I hope so at least bc I loaded up after tasting it back then!).
8/30/21, 11:26 AM - Thanks! We popped and poured but also drank the bottle over the course of several hours so it had plenty of time to develop. I'm sure it could easily handle a decant but didn't seem necessary and was singing from the start. Obviously it's still young and has a long life ahead but we quite enjoyed it. Also had an '08 DRC Echezeaux last week that was drinking really well so these '08 DRCs generally seem to be in a nice spot right now.
6/30/21, 6:29 AM - Good point, thanks. This was actually not a Chateau & Estate bottle (purchased from a UK cellar) so I guess it was actually likely to be the Terres Blanches.
6/22/21, 4:05 PM - ha, sure is! ;)
5/24/21, 3:20 PM - Looks like we had a pretty similar experience a few days apart. Really disappointing as I had very high hopes for this one!
5/25/21, 6:29 AM - Ya, I don't have the breadth of experience on '12 whites to fully opine (I love '12 Coche, but Coche is Coche...), but at least in the case of Roulot it seems to me that they were pretty attractive when still a little bit more youthful and now are kind of falling off. Just realized that I actually had a couple of other '12 Roulots (Boucheres and Mon Plaisir) in the past few months that I didn't post notes on b/c they were showing signs of premox (plus one was minorly corked), and in the case of the Boucheres it was also a wine I had a few years ago and really liked. Oh well.
3/23/21, 9:22 AM - Glad you liked the '10 Lambrays! I've never had the '99 Charmes but this one really is drinking beautifully so I think it's worth checking out one of your bottles soon since you've got a few. Would love to hear what you think.
3/22/21, 11:42 AM - 3rd bottle of 6 total that was bought on release by prior owner. Bottle was pristine. I've found '90 Roumier Bonnes Mares to be a bit moody as certain bottles hit very high highs and others are less giving. I've also consistently liked bottles of this less than the people I've had it with at the time (including on this occasion) so take that fwiw.
3/17/21, 7:27 PM - It didn't register as heat damage to me (more just a not great wine as some other tasters below have seemed to experience as well), but it's certainly possible as I haven't had a good bottle of this to compare it to. Purchased from a trusted source several years ago, but given Accomasso's haphazard distribution it's hard to know for sure if this was perfectly temp-controlled every step of the way.
2/5/21, 12:00 PM - Trying to get back in the note writing habit:) Definitely love this one! I have a tendency to fall in love with certain wines and this is one of them, so there may be a little score inflation that may or may not translate for others. I'm curious to hear what you think when you taste it. Hope you love it too but even if you don't like it quite as much it's hard to go too wrong here as it's a relative bargain vs. other great '10 red burgs that are multiples of this price.
1/18/21, 7:02 AM - A case of mags - that’s a treasure trove! As for it being like Raveneau Clos with bubbles, the creamy citrus custard type flavors are more dominant here but perhaps there’s an echo of it with that underlying minerality. In any case I hope it delivers for you like it did for me - that’s a lot of fun drinking ahead!
12/27/20, 12:58 PM - I’ll introduce you guys if I can score an invite to this 97-100pt dinner:)
3/26/16, 6:52 PM - Hi Seth - I did see your note and wish the bottle I had was as good as yours or the ones I had previously! Looking back at my purchase notes I realized that my first two tasting notes on this wine were from the 2 bottles I bought on release. I was so excited about the wine that I tried to find more and that more recent purchase must have been mishandled at some point. A recent disappointing bottle of '08 Les Barres that I had was from that purchase as well, which would help to explain why it wasn't as great as I would've expected.
3/27/16, 6:04 AM - Is there an email address I could contact you directly at?
5/18/16, 7:26 AM - Glad to hear that! sounds like my bottle was just a bit off.
5/10/15, 1:30 PM - Thanks for the thoughts - I kept the open bottle and just revisited after seeing your comment. It's definitely not corked (musty is probably a bad descriptor to use for a wine that's not corked), oxidized or showing signs of poor storage which is what I generally think of as true bottle flaws. But it's not right and I agree that it doesn't seem representative which is why I withheld a numerical score. It may just be an elevated level of brett - the wine just seems masked/covered up and doesn't have the charm I would've expected.
1/31/15, 4:30 AM - Disgorge date was on the back label right above the bar code. Obviously this bottle was a recent disgorge - could be that listing the disgorge date is a new thing for Peters and older bottles don't include it.
1/1/15, 2:07 PM - Yes, it does and I definitely agree with you that it doesn't seem like this needs time. It wasn't like it has huge structure and was closed and tight, it really just feels like it's fading and past prime. If it was blind I think I would've guessed either '97 or something much older. Definitely an outlier for me vs. other '01s. Oh well. This was the first of a handful of bottles so we'll see what happens over time.
Thanks for letting us know about this problem. We will review your comments and be in touch soon with an update.
