1995 Château Calon-Ségur St. Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend
First bottle of 6 bought on release. In a beautiful spot. All I was hoping for from St Estephe. Open and ready to drink with some teriary notes but still with a solid backbone. Bell pepper, cinnamon, red cherry, tobacco, and smoke. Excellent stuff!

Red
2010 Domaine Pavelot (Jean-Marc et Hugues) Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru La Dominode Pinot Noir
Tastes like a well made wine but still tight as a drum. Will not score for now. Will hold off in the next ones for a few more years. Had 2011 Pavelot Guettes a few nights ago that was drinking beaitifully.

At $39, a ridiculous value. Opaque orange hued red. Candied red cherry, vanilla, tobacco and spice cake nose. The liqueur red fruit in the mouth is balanced by subtle tannin, good acidity and a spicy finish. Excellent Rioja. 6th of 12.

4/27/20, 5:58 PM - Good question. I have to imagine this will go on for a long time. So good now but I imagine the future will bring a fascinating wine. I am going to try and not touch the remaking 6 for a while. I’d like to check in over the next 10 years and maybe more. I’ll probably uncork the next one 3 years from now and take it from there.

Light gold. Honey, truffle, peach and citrus on the nose. Rich with some real weight in the mouth but still with some freshness. This is excellent stuff. The tariff I payed was a bit steep ($65) but I think I am going to get a few more if I can. Truly delicious wine - low yields, late harvest, no manipulation. Yummy.

I do not drink lots of Cabernet so I am not the best judge (but I do love a good bottle of Bordeaux with some age). I found this relatively pretty up front- but not that interesting. Not to much it. Lacks substance and verve but at $18 totally fine. Happy to have to left for when I have people for dinner who do not like pinot and want some more wine in their glass.

3/28/20, 6:22 AM - It is. I just drink very little Cabernet in general. When I do, it tends to be Bordeaux

Still delicious- as wgcallum says- Dark berries and spices, chocolate and chili on the nose. (there is definitely some chili). In the mouth, there is rhubarb, some strawberries as well as white pepper, cloves and tea (credit - mtolerico) with "a side of acid and a base of gritty tannin." Always a good, interesting drink and good value at $26. Brings me to California. It has so much of what I want from a California zinfandel with lots of good rough edges, weight, sweetness and alcohol but does not go over the top and maintains lots of real interest which I imagine has do with all the different grapes other than Zinfandel that end up making it into this bottle. I have a good bit left (just found a case I had not logged into cellar tracker).

Opened at a busy gathering at home and did not get the chance to revisit until the next day from an uncorked bottle on the counter. Candied red fruit, vanilla and spice cake on the nose. Sweet with pervasive cherry cola in the mouth. I don't remember it being so alive on opening but heavens is it good the next day. I'll give the next bottles a decant. Yummy stuff.

At $20 a freakish value. Fresh zesty nose. Lemon grass, a gentle floral note and a little smoke. I love Milkmansteve's "Impossible to describe the paradox here - brilliant acidity, candied green apples and raisins (but without botrytis), profound density of flavors, yet bordering on Kabinett lightness and feather weight." So true. There is wonderful density of juicy almost tropical fruit (peaches, apricots, candied grapefruit) and coconut cream that floats on an acidic cloud. Absolutely stunning and the price boggles the mind.

I think these d'urea wines are pretty amazing values. This one is no exception. Brightish purple. Very busy nose of flowers, cherries, jammy blackberries, pepper, incense and acetone. Very bright and energetic in the mouth with dark berries, spice and excellent acidity. Gains focus and intensity with air. Lights out stuff for $24. Only bought 2.

5/21/18, 1:15 PM - I think the "acetone" aroma is from volatile acidity (VA) which, as I understand it, is considered a flaw. In this case it was not at all overwhelming and blew off after a little while- it did not diminish the wine substantially but it was noticeable. I need to read more about VA. As I understand it, it results during fermentation- not from storage- but I could be wrong. lemme hit the books..

2/10/15, 4:04 PM - I found the 2013 at Gordon's in Waltham. They deliver. Just saw you in the short film "disruption" at a climate change meeting in brookline in the midst of a snow storm. Keep up the good work and let me know if there is anything I can do to prevent the coming disaster.

2/19/15, 1:24 PM - I go to tastings at Gordon's in Waltham (for geeky French and Italian stuff) as well as at Taberno de Haro in Brookline (little Spanish restaurant with an amazing wine list). I am currently in Malaysia visiting my wife's family. Here, there is no wine but also no snow! BTW I am both short and confused but my name is Justin Campbell.

Drank in April 2014 (not 2004 as I initially recalled- it did seem like a while ago) at Zuni Cafe. From memory but I was just thinking about how much I enjoyed it and wanted to leave a note. Medium red. Lovely array of Burgundian red fruit with wilder earthy and gamey notes. Very juicy on the palate. Good mineral spine. The people at the table were surprised at how good it was. I remember them asking with delight, "What is this!?"
