This is one of my favorite bottlings from one of my favorite producers. I was excited to open a bottle from the 2022 vintage to get a feel for how this tiny terraced block from the great Thörnicher Ritsch shows in this particular vintage.
These wines defy conventional wisdom and can be open in the refrigerator for weeks without losing a step. I opened this wine and drank a third of the bottle, popped it back in the refrigerator and then came back it 16 days later. On day one this was racy, tangy, and smokey on a tightly wound and very youthful frame. But then my first taste after being open for over two weeks was absolutely WOW! So incredibly delicious with a myriad of fruit in the vessel of purity that was like mineral water. Piquant apples that seemed to evolve into nectarines and maybe even a hint of plums. Bergamot that gave way to juicy tangelos. All this while being so saline and pure that I couldn’t help but be taken back to being on the monolith that is Ritsch. Absolutely gorgeous with a flutter of sweet herbs and balsamic botanical notes.
Insanely pure, honest, deep yet filigreed, and ultimately so incredibly drinkable.

4/12/24, 7:28 PM - Definitely. When young like this, these wines don’t budge an inch for at least 10-14 days open.

4/15/24, 7:14 AM - For me, no. These wines are built to age and made in a very old school and stripped down way. I love their purity and also that they don't always make it 'easy.' Serious wines that are well worth the patience, IMO.

With the acclaim of the 2021 vintage, I couldn’t be more happy that this was my first bottle to introduce the vintage to me. The wines being made by Peter are truly special.
This is a wine bottled by the liter, so you can guess that it is fresh, delicious, and meant to be enjoyed. The nose was high toned and full of perfumed oranges. The palate was refreshing with prickly acidity and loads of juicy citrus notes making it absolutely delicious. It had a wonderful zippy freshness and purity to it too, like ginger infused mineral water.
This is a joyful wine that is easy, fun, and so damn tasty.

I would be lying if I said I wasn’t extremely excited to open this wine and taste my first 2021 Riesling. There has been so much hype about this vintage and I am really looking forward to starting to get my own impressions about the 2021 vintage.
This wine was everything that I hoped it would be, from one of my favorite producers and from a new and much talked about vintage.
Complex and beautiful aromas of smoked herbs, sea breeze, and mandarin oranges on the nose gave a wonderful indication of the fireworks that were coming on the palate.
This wine was all about juxtaposition and absolute balance. A beautiful mix of ripe fruit and super bright acidity, all while being very delicate and filigreed. Notes of ginger spiced apples, piquant cara cara oranges, wet slate, and finishing with a cooling sensation of mint on the long and lip smacking finish. The wine was deep and long while absolutely ethereal all at the same time, boggling the mind and senses in a way that one is left enthralled with what this utterly delicious wine had to say.
This was a spectacular start to my exploration into the Rieslings from 2021. I am VERY excited to continue digging into these wines!

I bought a lot of the Peter Lauer wines too. An annual buy for me, but went heavier on the Kabinetts in 2021.

I totally agree on the herbal thing that @ACYSO mentioned. This blows off a bit after a few hours but, unfortunately isn't replaced by anything special. It's a solid wine, but for the price?

Candied apricots, orange marmalade, and apple butter with a luxurious texture and prickly sense of acidity. This was obscenely young, I knew that going in, but I couldn't help myself from trying a bottle of it.
Drank over two days. The first night was a bit high tones and unresolved. The second night it really started to show its true character.

4/20/21, 8:12 AM - Thanks for the comment and question. I just popped the cork back in the bottle and put it in the fridge. I knew the wine wouldn't be hurt overnight. Showed very well on day two.

Wow, I absolutely love this wine. Intoxicating aromas of brioche, cherry skins, and a hint of florality. The palate is deep and rich while showing wonderful energy and minerality. Enoyed this wine in Riedel Vinum Burgundy glasses and let the aromatics soar and palate really show it's stuff. Great!

Drank over 3 nights. Dark notes of fruit and spice.

8/14/17, 11:57 AM - I think that it is in good shape and currently drinking well. I definitely think that it has 2-3 years of good drinking ahead of it. It showed quite well on day two, but on day three it started to fade. I pumped the air out each day, but there was only about 3 ounces left on day three.

Slow O'd for 8 hours before enjoying. But honestly the taste that I had upon opening may have been better than after the 8 hours of prep. Initially quite perfumed and seemed open for business. At dinner, the wine was slightly more closed down - which I am starting to see if a current characteristic of the 2004 vintage in Barolo/Barbaresco. The wine still showed some very nice notes of strawberries, chocolate, and black licorice. The palate was smooth and polished. The new oak is well integrated and I am sure contributed to the smooth texture of the wine.

12/14/16, 12:11 PM - I would recommend holding it for maybe 3-5 years before checking in with it. Obviously depends on how many bottles you have though.

I opened this wine to check on it and see where it was at. It was very youthful and it took some time for the tannins to soften. There was great ripe red plum fruit, dark chocolate, and that earthy undertone that I look for in Mourvedre. This wine could definitely benefit from some more age, I will probably have my next bottle in 2 years.

Beautiful nose of classic KB perfumed fruit. I think that the 2008s are starting to finally come around and get into a more traditional KB wheelhouse. Still, this vintage is different and the muted tones of darker fruit and higher acid remain.

8/13/13, 8:31 AM - Thanks for the comment, Barry. After a conversation with MB, I decided that I would drink through my 08's because of their specific vintage characteristics and then go back to the more "typical" and in my opinion, better 2007 vintage wines.
