3/23/24, 8:15 AM - I find hot vintages of CDP to be ponderous and short lived.
3/23/24, 6:01 AM - The ‘85 still drinks well.
3/14/24, 2:01 PM - Wondered why this was so inexpensive. Give me Gruet!!!
2/18/24, 6:00 AM - Couldn’t agree more!Emperor has no clothes. Bring back the style of ‘89 and’90.
9/30/23, 4:02 PM - One of the best Clarets I've ever had!
9/30/23, 4:04 PM - One of the best Clarets I've ever had!
12/26/22, 5:49 AM - Love your sense of humor!
12/26/22, 5:41 AM - Too young.
5/7/22, 3:55 AM - Our house bubbly. Never disappoints,
5/4/22, 3:02 PM - I always find your thoughts helpful!
1/3/22, 12:49 PM - Enjoyed your evaluation. You and I are in the minority, but I have the same response to the Sulphur/ Reduction issue. I keep hoping time will tame it, as there is a lot of good stuff going on in the background, but so far it has not. I feel validated! (at least this will never become pre-moxed)
8/13/21, 3:21 PM - THANKS! Have had both the '61 and '82, but not side to side.
5/15/21, 2:08 PM - Caymus and Savigny les Beaune are always reliable and a good value.
12/28/20, 4:57 AM - Burgundy will always make you cry. Only occasionally are they tears of joy.Melzar
12/10/20, 5:01 AM - Your experience with this wine mirrors mine.Melzar
11/14/20, 3:29 PM - Drink it soon!Melzar
10/19/20, 4:57 AM - Glad someone else can see that the emperor has no clothes!Melzar
6/6/20, 3:51 AM - Your experience with this wine mimics mine. I bought 6 bottles eight years ago and have Three left. I found the reduction over the top and actually a fault to my palate. Last time I wouldn't even rate it, as my impressions were so out of line with cellar tracker and professional ratings.Time to try another, and I will give it more air next time!
2/11/20, 3:43 PM - Clos Erasmus?
1/20/20, 3:20 PM - I like your concept of breakfast!
1/19/20, 9:06 AM - You clearly did a vertical tasting of Figeac. My wine club tasted eight examples from '82 to '15 in Sep 2019. We almost all rated the '82 last. Those of us who still had some in the glass at the end of the evening noted that the '82 had undergone a magical transformation, and after 3 hours, it might have been the favorite had we waited to score, or had decanted. I believe that, after pop and pour, the '95 was my favorite, followed closely by the 2000 and the '15. We did not taste the '98 or the "16. Glad I have it in my cellar.
12/10/19, 1:42 PM - Dear peternelson,Glad someone finally noted the extreme reduction of this wine. I bought 6 bottles based on a very high Burghound score. I held off on opening my last three, hoping the reduction will diminish. I guess I'm overly sensitive to reduction, and indeed, many of my family members don't notice it at all. A little is OK,, but at this level, I consider it a fault.
3/20/19, 3:13 PM - Melzar says:Like people, nothing lasts forever. Glad I had the chance to drink this wine when I did. This wine was my son's wine epiphany.
12/25/17, 12:29 PM - Think you may have had a bad bottle. Beaucastel tends to have bottle variation. My 2001's taste nothing like the reviews I read.Melzar
7/15/17, 5:24 PM - Agree with your assessment of this wine. I'm a Burgundy lover. Cristom is the best new world producer of Burgundy inspired Pinot Noir. Combines the best of new world fruit with the finesse of Burgundy.
12/20/16, 6:19 AM - Judging from the way my 2001 bottles of d'Yquem look, I'm sure you had a flawed bottle. I would not rate this bottle.melzar
10/4/16, 8:08 AM - Believe it still needs time, or a long decant (if properly stored)Melzar
10/4/16, 8:04 AM - Mirrors my experience with this wine.Melzar
5/23/16, 7:07 AM - I think it's unfair to give a numerical score to a flawed bottle.(corked or oxidized for example)Melzar
4/23/16, 4:21 AM - This echoes my most recent experience with this wine in Sept 2014 when my wine club did a blind vertical of 8 LLC's, '78 to '00. The '82 moved from my least favorite to my 2nd as it opened over 1.5 hours. If the tasting had lasted longer, it would have overtaken the '85 as my favorite.melzar
12/1/15, 4:44 PM - Gruaud Larose is noted for having a touch of Brett. If you are sensitive to Brett, the wine will come across as having too much of that barnyard quality. I think a little Brett adds complexity, and in small doses, I don't find it offensive. Many in my wine tasting group would beg to differ.Melzar
7/21/15, 5:09 PM - Glad to see a review from some one who gave his wine the time in bottle it needs to show it's stuff. Drinking the highly regarded '12 now is infanticide. The basic bottling actually tastes better than the Argetsinger young.melzar
6/22/15, 5:21 AM - Welcome to the new New York wines. Most Finger Lakes Rieslings have a good bit of residual sugar. You might also try Forge Cellars. Their dry riesling is also made bone dry. The Finger lakes also makes some good Alsatian style Gewurtz, and many good Macon style unoaked Chardonnay. Pinot Noir and Cab Franc are improving. Come visit and taste. Our wine country is beautiful.melzar
2/12/15, 4:44 AM - I cellar and like this wine. Love your date analogy!
9/14/14, 3:20 PM - I love this wine. Your poetry more!Melzar
