Nothing interesting to me here. Concentrated fruit but lacking in finish or finesse. A good food wine, but nothing more.

Tannins are perfectly integrated, polished with excellent balance. Definitely prominent berries, both blueberries and some dark cherries. Great wine and no reason to wait.

Terrific wine. Opens with honeyed apricots, orange marmalade and a hint of lime. Excellent balance with a dark, golden color the envy of winemakers everywhere. No need to wait any longer, it is time.

Hints of forest floor and earth on the somewhat subdued nose, this has a solid dark berry fruit that is a nice foil for the surprisingly focused tannins. A concentrated wine. Not a long finish but one that has character and panache. Perfect with grilled tuna. Better as it opens after 90 minutes suggesting it will hold for a bit. I wonder if the fruit will hold beyond 3-5 years.

This is liquid earth. Berries intermeshed with gravel and dusty leaves. Polish. Dark as the night. Clean finish that goes on and on. An underlying hint of black olives that never fully emerges. Delicious!

This opens with a somewhat muted nose, but still a bit fragrant with prunes and raisins. Nice balance, dark berry fruit with cardamon and earth. Layers of concentrtion. A lovely drink. Seems ready to go.

Deeply defined dark berry with an amalgam of tart cherries, hibiscus, and dark earth. Layers of complexity, albeit on the dark side of wine drinking. No glamour here! Gritty, hedonistic in a non-sumptuous way, smacked you in da f*cking mouth with a fist full of gravel kinda wine. Pinot drinkers run for the exits! This brings a point to the end of the pencil in its definition and clarity, albeit into the dark waters…

This is simply a stellar Rose’ and the best I have enjoyed. The color is a stunning salmon pink that is almost orange. There is a rounded mouthfeel that is slightly tannic, probably from the lack of de-stemming. There is definitely bright strawberry fruit with a surprising minerality throughout leading to a hint of lime on the finish. The delectable sweetness makes this impossible to resist. Hopefully 2022 can rise to this level of goodness! I am in for as much as I can afford!

A big, dark, inky bastard this one is! Deep berry fruit, hints of cinnamon, and a whiff of green pepper. The tannins are still primary, somewhat remarkable considering the age. I will let this rest another 2-3 years and then revisit.

We started off with a half glass and not entirely chilled temperature and there were strong green apple and honeysuckle notes. Second glass was right off the iced carafe and this brought more expression from the bubbles. Buttered toast with fresh fruit with a slight hint of nuts on the finish. Damn tooting this is good juice! I need to order more!

Delicious wine that is full bodied and well balanced. This held up well at the 10 year mark. Plums, currents and hints of dark earth. I suspect it will start fading in the next year or two.

Strawberries and dark fruit for a bubbly. I didn’t pick up some of the more traditional bread or toast notes as others have. A bit spendy for the quality IMHO. I prefer Billecart Salmon at this price point.

This really shone on this night. 1 hour plus decant no doubt helped. Devison continues to deliver the goods. A mouthful of fruit deftly balanced with an impeccable finish. I really need to quit drinking these so it can get some additional aging under its belt. All he really needed was some discipline…

This opens with a definite whiff of tobacco smoke and cherry juice. The smoke blew off (yuck, yuck) and underlying notes of tobacco, gravel and berries emerged into a delightful, well balanced drink. Surprisingly light on its feet considering the pedigree.

This was shining tonight! Had it with pasta puttanesca and it was fabulous. Earth and berry nose, cocoa and cherry fruit on the mid-palate. A 2 hour decant calmed down the big fruitiness that originally emerged upon opening. 4 hours in and the secondary characteristics emerged with beautiful balance and fine tannins in the finish. A dandy drink.

Nice fruit, light on it’s feet, great balance. Surprisingly, the tannins started to really show 2 hours in. Did the fruit fade? I don’t think so, but it got more stringent over the second and third hour. Nevertheless, this was a very nice drink, it went well with bison burgers.

This wine is in a great place. It opened up after a short decant making me think it has legs to age for another few years with continued improvement. Otherwise, I will do a full 90-120 minute decant with my last bottle. The balance between the Grenache and Cabernet is quite impressive! A perfect Christmas dinner wine.

This is as close to heaven as a Syrah gets. At ten years this has maintained it’s purity of fruit with a pleasant freshness that off-sets the explosion of Rocks’ flavors. Saddle leather, river stone and dark berries all held together with impeccable balance. A perfect Christmas wine.

This is a big, bad ass Syrah. Very concentrated fruit, even after a 3 hour plus decant. Dark berry fruit, hints of black licorice with tight but smooth and balanced tannins. This tastes too young to me and it should open up with a couple more years in the bottle. Delicious now though.

Stellar showing! Iron, blood and deep earth with dark cherry and berry fruit. Exceptional balance and polish. Indisputably from the Rocks. The funk is now sublime, merging with white pepper and berries. Yet the gravelly finish is unmistakable. It is nice that this has held up so well without developing overt black olive notes that many of these older Cayuse wines can possess. We decanted 2 hours and would cut that short if we didn’t drink all of our bottles!

Plum and cherry fruit, hints of cinnamon and a touch of mushrooms. A classic Left Bank wine, muscular impressions from the Cabernet but balanced with a warm fruit finish. This has aged well. Licorice notes, warm soil. This is a dandy! My last bottle and I was glad that I didn’t hold for too long.

Lovely aromas of dried apples and yellow cherries with bread dough, spiced orange peel, dried rosemary, chamomile and pie crust. Its medium-bodied and structured with clean and pointy acidity throughout, with a creamy mousse. It’s tense and will need some time. Beautiful chalky minerality to close. 1,599 magnums produced. 100% pinot meunier. From organically grown grapes. Disgorged April 2022. Zero dosage. Try after 2024.

This is a new wine to this portfolio, as the Les Closeaux comes from a 1.49 acre parcel located in the town of Crouttes-sur-Marne. Vines from this site were first planted all the way back in 1925. Very dense like the other wines of this lineup, this offers concentrated gooseberry, pear, flint, lemon rind and starfruit flavors alongside pastry crust and cardamom notes on the palate. Full of tension, with serious weight, this beauty is just starting to hit its stride. Initially a bit reticent, give it 20-30 minutes in the decanter if consuming now to indulge in the full range of flavors. –Owen Bargreen,
