3/30/24, 9:10 AM - Gotta say, this note reads like a 93+!!
5/1/24, 8:30 PM - Brilliant! When you try: see if you pick up on one of my fave notes of menthol from the local eucalyptus groves!
3/25/24, 8:48 PM - Every writer with a decent bottle says 'loads of time'. 2 or 3 folks had an off bottle in the last year, 1 even admitted it. A more comprehensive tasting note would have helped us know what your problem was...
3/26/24, 8:06 AM - Very helpful, thanks!Grin
3/21/24, 1:42 PM - Agree with your window! The VA probably didn't help that particular bottle...
3/3/24, 9:37 PM - I'm a little late to the party for your note, but judging by my bottle tonight and all those notes around yours, there's 3 possibilities:1. It's you (your idiosyncratic distaste for this--- like me and underripe Italians or like one of my friends who doesn't like Grenache)?2. It was the bottle (subtly off)? 3. EVERYONE else is wrong?I suspect #2
2/16/24, 6:13 PM - I agree, sounds flawed. Superlight TCA or VA can really change things for sensitive tasters. Keep your hopes up! my last 2 were great, saving the last for '27.
2/4/24, 9:47 PM - For someone who scores EVERYTHING between 87 and 92 for years, this is a terrible rating for you! What gives? you "like" it?
2/5/24, 8:59 AM - Ahh, perfect sense!
2/4/24, 6:13 PM - Judging by your outstanding (Yeah!) collection of '05's, I'm surprised! These are JUST now becoming drinkable! What makes you think this won't hold for 20 more years??Mark
12/31/23, 10:30 AM - Totally agree with EyeDoc. Given all the recent notes / results it was either the bottle or you that was off! I choose the bottle, and have seen many the same way over the decades. Only a thimbleful of pure TCA can ruin an Olympic swimming pool of wine and a few molecules in your bottle won't be perceived as "off". Sometimes it's more obvious the next day.
12/20/23, 10:13 AM - "Off" IS flawed and scoring it at all throws off the community score, which is unfair...Ultra low TCA does this. VA if you're not sensitive to it.
12/20/23, 5:35 PM - or you could ask Eric if this is appropriate behavior!
12/9/23, 6:43 PM - Curious! I use "drink up" when something is on the back edge of plateau and will fall off in the next year. Is this in danger, or can I wait the intended 2-5 years from now?Grinner
12/8/23, 3:32 PM - Sounds like a 93+! 86 is a grocery store wine that is "ok"!
12/9/23, 6:36 PM - Brilliant! hand MV a Guinness (or an '89 Haut Brion)!
11/6/23, 9:55 PM - that's your public tasting note? did you even try it?
10/12/23, 10:03 AM - Public tasting note? or Just Beautiful, Elegant & Intellectual?
10/4/23, 9:30 PM - Dude! 51 pts = spoiled, off bottle, your palate is shit for the night, whatever. Be more specific and/or just do NA. A score like that throws off every REAL note. Since you didn't actually say how the wine tasted ("literally like nothing" is not a tasting note! More like your palate is toast), we're left wondering...G
9/2/23, 8:47 PM - How'd it taste (since this is a public tasting note!)? Maybe better for a "private note"?
8/30/23, 12:29 PM - Strange. So it's either:a. the bottle (my vote)b. an idiosyncratic distaste for it (like me and many Italian wines)c. everyone else is wrong (hundreds and hundreds fooled by media and their own palate; doubt it!)What's your vote?
8/12/23, 9:09 AM - Huh?What did it taste like? We all know 4 y/o Cabs are not "old"!Did you read the other notes?Off bottle perhaps?
5/1/23, 10:59 PM - Here we go again! Nice public TASTING note...
5/1/23, 10:57 PM - We know the content, did you taste it?
4/27/23, 9:36 AM - LOL! It was a good deal at Bay House restaurant's retail spot in Salishan (OAFP meeting). Brought it home and you know I wasn't going to save a $35 wine. So first Italian meal - bam!
4/21/23, 1:00 PM - Annnnd? did you taste it? (there is a place for private notes)
4/15/23, 7:52 PM - Nice public tasting note. Like "X" tremely good? or bad? (there is a place for private scribbles!)
1/31/23, 12:37 PM - Maybe she'll post an actual "public tasting note"! (there is a place for private notes!)
1/26/23, 5:29 PM - Huh? did you taste it? (there is a place for private notes!)
1/16/23, 8:08 PM - "Too Busy" to write an actual tasting note?
1/16/23, 8:06 PM - sounds like an 81! not a 91...
1/15/23, 8:53 AM - An actual tasting note would be helpful, especially when your score is so far off the mean. Do you have an idiosyncratic distaste for Hall or a slightly off bottle?
1/14/23, 9:46 AM - Your tasting note?
1/8/23, 9:32 PM - Thank you for not scoring it if you know it’s not your cup of tea! Brilliant!
12/26/22, 8:19 PM - What?? Public tasting note?
12/25/22, 9:37 PM - Right! Everyone else is wrong! or your bottle was...choose wisely...
12/25/22, 9:25 PM - So if your score is 19-20 points off everyone else, including pros, is it you or the bottle? You: declare your idiosyncratic distaste for such things, don't be unfair and bring the average score down all by yourself.Bottle: figure out what was wrong with it. Light TCA (sounds like it)? VA? Brett? Pink Floyd, "which is it?"
12/25/22, 8:48 AM - Wait! is that glove leather or ball leather? JK! will it go 8 more?BTW:Loved your comment about drinking wines older than you! for some of us that's barely possible! (see my '61 notes) Cheers! MXmas
12/25/22, 8:03 AM - I just now saw this as I was about to post... How can you "like" a 77 point wine? I use those for cooking, maybe! Some descriptors would be nice too. Most of CT uses:THE 100-POINT RATING SCALE Extraordinary (96-100 points)Outstanding (90-95)Very Good to Excellent (85-89)Good (80-84)Average (75-79)Below average (70-74)Avoid (50-70)
12/13/22, 8:09 AM - Public tasting note? "never again"? nice aroma?
11/15/22, 8:27 AM - This is a public tasting note?
9/18/22, 9:50 AM - "sophisticated pallets" = a fancy way to carry around boxes. Mr. Stevens may have a crummy palate...
9/18/22, 6:34 PM - truly a great note; we all need an editor:"I told my wife she should embrace her mistakes"She gave me a hug...
7/20/22, 8:42 PM - that's hilarious! I was surprised by it in 2015, now I look forward to it even more. Thanks!Mark
7/8/22, 12:48 AM - ORrrr... superlight TCA does exactly that. Takes out the nose, tamps the fruit. Larger amounts do the wet cardboard and sweatsocks thing...
6/24/22, 8:49 PM - Hunh? (public tasting note?!). Did you jump in the lake? How was the wine?
6/25/22, 4:52 PM - that's hilarious! I'm saving my first for next year...
6/16/22, 8:59 PM - So you have an idiosyncratic distaste for it? (and believe me, I have those too) or everyone else is wrong?
5/29/22, 6:55 PM - 12 out of the last 14 reviews say something like "decant longer" or "wait a few years". Are they all wrong? I'm sure you know super light TCA gives a muted nose and no off odors...
4/15/22, 12:47 PM - I'm learning, Sensei!
4/12/22, 3:28 PM - Uhhhh, how are these useful public tasting notes?
4/8/22, 5:19 PM - that's a public tasting note?
3/6/22, 10:24 PM - Actually sounds like super light TCA. In low doses, all it does is mute things (long before the wet cardboard and sweat socks show up!). Hopefully your next will be better!
3/8/22, 4:20 PM - And thank goodness for those great ones! My first two of these were excellent, 1 to go...fingers, toes and butt cheeks crossed...
3/1/22, 9:28 AM - Off bottle (reads like heat damage) or idiosyncratic distaste for it?
2/24/22, 8:25 PM - uhhh, how was the wine? (since this was a public tasting note!). You can do private notes....
2/22/22, 9:08 AM - JKWoodward double decanted them about an hour before the tasting.
2/10/22, 10:36 PM - Huh? Public tasting note?...#9, #9, #9....?
2/12/22, 8:27 AM - so it's perfect for a private tasting note and not a public one!
Thanks for letting us know about this problem. We will review your comments and be in touch soon with an update.
