2006 Diebolt-Vallois Champagne Grand Cru Fleur de Passion Brut Chardonnay

Dosage 6 gr/l.
Vinified in small and used oak casks from Burgundy. Contains old vines 860-45 years) from Cramant.
The nose is marked by the oak, aromas of rhum. On the palate very dry attack finishing with a slightly oaky end.
Somehow, I would have prefered less oak.

Light to medium red, definitely a deep colour for a Coteaux Champenois. An impressive and Burgundian nose with cherries with a touch of candied cherries, some ripe strawberries, spice and oak, a bit of herbaceous notes in the background, and some flowery notes. Medium bodied, cherries (morellos) and cranberries, high acidity, spice, rather light but still present tannins, and a long aftertaste with pronounced mineral notes. A quite credible wine also by Burgundian standards, although the high acidity indicates that it comes from a cooler place than Côte d'Or. (And would knock the socks of many red 2004s from Burgundy.) Definitely one the best Coteaux Champenois I've tasted. 88 p.
Drinks well now, has the acidity to be cellared for long, and would work fine if it gets more mature notes as well.
