Chateauneuf-Du Pape, The 2007 Vintage, A 10 Year Retrospective: This was the first wine of an 18 wine horizontal of 2007 CdPape. Still ruby red, no bricking. Nice spicy/peppery forest floor nose, rustic but fresh clean flavors of black cherry, licorice and black pepper. Drinking well but with many good years ahead. More or less middle of the pack of the 18 2007s

Opened a bottle purchased on release and stored well since then, and was surprised to find that there had been a bit of refermentation- this bottle had a slight "spritz" to it. After an aggressive decant and some time it settled down and was a very nice Reservee, with garrigue, red and dark berry fruit flavors and a plush mid-palate, somewhat luscious-in-texture. This wine has years ahead of it and is a great wine. Hoping the referment was an aberration and was interested not to see any other notes on that here.

1/28/20, 3:20 AM - Hi William, thanks very much for the comment. I wondered about that and is why I was careful to mention it was a pretty clean flavored bottle. The 09 was great but a bit more “Feral” to the point that my wife didn’t like that vintage. We had 2009, 2010, 2013, 2014 and 2016 amd her favorite was 2016.. I should add more notes on how they compared. Thanks again for the comment and I do wonder if it was Brett bloom. I noticed it years ago and the 2001 Charbonniere “Les haute Brusquieres” 2003.
