Extremely nice Viognier: flowery nose, oily palate. Rich fruit notes. Great wine to sip and with apps. For the price, veryhard to beat.

Eye: deep purple/garnet color. Nose: earthy, dried fruit, cherries, forest. Palate: full bodied, solid structure, balanced acidity, long finish.

7/31/22, 9:22 AM - Hi, I did not decant but did let it breathe in the glass for 15-20 mins before enjoying. I put the rest of the bottle under vacuum and will enjoy over the next couple of nights. Decanting will probably be a great idea if you want to prep the bottle for enjoyment by a larger group. Cheers!

International Blind Tasting II (The Woodlands, Texas USA): Opened and let breathe in the bottle for 1 hour before tasting.

Eye: deep red color. Nose: cherries, smoky. Palate: solid tannins, nice fruit, medium to full body, long finish. Probably still young and did not open up fully. Enjoyable.

5/7/19, 7:08 AM - @Laz4wine - thanks for your question. Probably was still young and did not open up fully. It was enjoyable. I do not normally look at community ratings before I post my tastings. Will be interested to try this one again in a few years to compare to my tasting this year.

keep running into this so called Champagne at different events I attend while working, and also, my sweet wife loves this, so she keeps buying bottles and popping at home now and then.
So I guess I’m more or less stuck with it?
Still, I can’t adept, nor realize that this is Champagne, as it acts more like a cheap and quite bad cava.
This must be leftovers from the rest of the line made by Moet, as there is no resemblance at all?
Perhaps it’s the liqueur d'expédition leftovers that they ferment and bottle under this label?
Anyway, this is such a bad Champagne in my opinion.
Well, I guess that I will get to know if there will be any improvement over time, since my wife has stocked the Champagne fridge with another crate…
But I seriously doubt it.

Dark purple in the glass with a black fruit aroma that you can smell two feet from the glass. Juicy fruit (in a good way) from the Grenache. I couldn't place the other grape in the blend - I thought Cab Franc but that didn't quite seem right, so I looked up Jon Rimmerman's note and learned that it is Carignan. A good blend - the Carignan adds a shaft of tannins & acid to the soft fruity Grenache. I know some other reviewers haven't liked this wine but call me a fan, especially at $13.

5/27/13, 12:24 PM - Thanks for your tasting note. I have enjoyed this wine previously. I have one more bottle left. I wonder if there was a bad shipment of wine that some prior reviewers received. I bought mine from a rep of the estate here in Germany and have enjoyed them, along with the 'regular' Tossals.

96 for estimated potential.cork on its way out..closed, barely fragrant, tannic. Tasted an ounce or so and decided to put it away for another 15 years, topped it off with an ounce of so of Cockburn 2000 and put in a newish cork. Will visit it again in 2028. Thinking it will shine.
Talk to you again in a decade and a half.

Stunning. Dark cherry, loads of baking spice, grippy tannin, and acidity which, combined with the sweet fruit, brings a long finish. A dark, dense wine with plenty of structure to age for years.
  • socidelvino commented:

2/9/13, 1:09 PM - Still haven't cracked open my last box of 6 bottles remaining so thanks for the confirmation the 2001 is still brilliant!

A blend of 90% Shiraz, 7% Mourvedre and 3% Viognier. Aged 20 months in French Oak barrels. It is ruby in color, medium plus in intensity. Just a hint of garnet on the rim. The nose is mostly smoke, crushed black pepper and all-spice. The nose is medium plus in intensity. The palate is dry, with a bright entry of juciy red berries and a spicy but short finish. The acidity is medium plus (probably due to the Viognier). The alcohol is medium and well integrated despite being 14.7%. The tannins are medium at best, resulting in a very quaffable and refreshing blend which provides some complexity. The body, flavor intensity and length are all medium. A fun and drinkeable wine that is ready to drink now. It will likely last a couple more years but is not likely to improve. Good by itself, but it should go well with grilled fowl and game.88

Aerated to decanter 3 hours, served (sadly) at room temperature. If this were my bottle (having had it twice now), I'd be sure to aerate a full 6 hours in decanter, then serve at cellar temp. To watch this evolve as it warms and morphs in the glass is a thing of beauty. The current CT avg of just 90.5 seems very low, but maybe people aren't giving this the airtime it needs. At the 3 hour mark, it's as if a switch were thrown - beauty ensued. 14% abv, drink thru 2019, recommended

11/24/12, 11:09 PM - Thanks for the detailed view on aerating. You're right that most, including me, might not give it enough time to fully open.will definitely try this next bottle.

Garagiste purchase. So bad upon opening first bottle (which I then poured down the drain), I simply boxed the remainder and put in trash--didn't want to risk damaging the kitchen sink drain).

Disappointing considering some of the other reviews. Just a basic cab that was thin and without much character. Not much fruit or flavor either. Maybe it's past its prime.
  • socidelvino commented:

1/21/12, 9:37 AM - Hi SMZ, did you decant? I am surprised by your note as it is out of character.

Pop and poured

Darker and more inward at this time than the 06. Could be bottle prep, time from vintage, and vintage, so I won't venture any causality here. A little less giving, but at the same time more structured and darker profiled. Still with a core of mid palate sweetness-suppleness and perfume that I like quite a bit. The wood is again noticeable but it integrates quite nicely, and certainly does not strip any character, but rather adds a bit of roundness and spice. There is plenty of body and structure here, but it is nicely wrapped in a soft around the edges (but my no means do I mean flab or lack of focus) very giving style that is very pleasureable both to the palate and the brain. Lovely. 92+

Maybe the worst wine I have ever tasted from any region. Smell of burnt rubber and poo (not brett). I took one sip and spit it out and could not stand to take another.
  • socidelvino commented:

1/13/12, 11:37 AM - Interesting note. I bought 6 bottles in one batch and had 3 good ones but also one with the burnt barnyard smell and flavors but didn't pet anything at the time. I've got 2 more so will check one soon to see how it is.

Pale gold color. Sweet honeydew melon, strong honeysuckle, and distant citrus on the nose. Tastes like a bouquet of flowers dipped in bitter honey and drizzled with fresh tangerine juice. The finish, with similar notes laced with citric bitter-sweet notes, goes on forever. Some notes of vanilla and meringue as well. Excellent structure. Thick but not overly syrupy mouth-feel. Very nice. Caveat: tasted in-flight (Delta).

Very pure and crystalline, quite sweet, flowers and peaches supported by slate and tingling acidity, good length. A classic Mittelmosel Kabinett with style, juice and finesse. Needs a bit more time to gain complexity.
  • socidelvino commented:

1/3/12, 11:08 AM - Nice review. The minerality balances very well with the residual sugar.
