Hard to rate ….way too young to open …just did it to try and gauge the quality. Very think…black ink color . After 2 hours in the glass it shows a little . Cherry, tart strawberry, blueberry, bleach, tar, long finish and soft tannins. Will buy more and age at least 10. Mid nineties points seem justified…just way too young to drink.

2/10/24, 5:33 AM - it's funny Wyatt...I taste it often in very young age worthy bordeaux style wines...obviously not a toxic base burn or intense flavor...I probably have a "unique" palate lol.

Deliciously put together rioja.
Nose is full oaky, black fruit, black currant, black cherry

Palate is great balance of tannin that follows the nose.

Lots of complexity in this one. One of my favorite wines

Absolutely love this wine. Decant it and let it breathe a bit though, it will really open up. Strong flavors of stone fruit permeate throughout. It is heavy and dark.

Ok…More like a classic Oregon pinot than than Southern CA….not an over extracted / concentrated pinot trying to be cloud pleasing. IMO this needs 10 years . Very clear and clean. Austere sour cherry, strawberry, kiwi, Tart acid …long finish . Probably could age and gain complexity over 20….in another country this is Called burgundy lol
  • DesMarteau commented:

6/22/21, 6:20 AM - Yes...sorry...I clarified my note a bit...more like a OR pinot than Santa Barbara coast style IMO. Sometimes I get too brief when I write this as I'm drinking :)

One of many bottles we had for romantic valentines dinner.

Drank after 1 hour decant. Very dark in the glass. Very aromatic. Lots of legs and a bruiser at 15.2, but the high alcohol does not stick out. Full bodied. Black currant, anise, cherries, subtle smoky notes and dried spices. On the palate, lavish and powerful, juicy blackberry, ripe cherry, vanilla. All of the ladies at the table loved it.

Had with filet mignon at dinner party and was a great pairing and crowd pleaser. The 2017 is drinking well now. Prices appear to have gone up significantly on over last few years, but good QPR if found at <$40 and would buy again. Probably a bit over the top for the purists, but low risk crowd pleaser and fun to have in the rotation.

2/15/21, 5:20 AM - Think of it the same way....wow's (with it's weight, fruit profile, approach-ability) CA wine drinkers...nice low cost rotation :) It is good...especially for that cost level. Just not overly complex or interesting if it's all you drink.

Floral, crushed rocks and black fruit aromas followed by notes of cassis, black cherry, hint of vanilla in a very complex wine. Bold fruit with silky tannins and a long, tasty finish. Drink now or over the next 10 years.

Brought to the restaurant too cold but only a few minutes in the glass it was perfect. This wine was drinking so very well. It was wonderful.

Drank a bunch of these over the years, with consistent impression: there might be decent fruit somewhere under all the oak, but who can tell? Previous bottles were mainly vanillin buoyed by some acidity. Held on to one last bottle for a couple of years, wondering if something interesting might happen. No such luck: fruit mostly gone, oak still very present. The score represents my aggregate take on this wine, since this last bottler was far past its feeble prime.

12/31/17, 3:53 PM - I'm chuckling a bit PMDIAS as I have a magnum I've been holding onto to see what happens...I didn't expect much but now I"m expecting less LOL! I agree wholeheartedly that this vintage was subpar and a complete disappointment.

concentrated deep purple black color...grenache fruit bursts out of the glass...approachable now with great young grenache complexity...flowers, blueberries, chalk, pencil lead...modern fruit forward, powerful and light, long finish. QPR for $40 and will get better over the next 5 years.
  • DesMarteau commented:

4/4/16, 10:59 AM - Yep! Love Jorge Ordonez and Alto Moncayo...My bad on thinking there was grenache in Clio.

thin, acids, astringent, bitter, seawater..fruit is asleep....popped and poured...will not open again for 10 years as this is reminiscent of a young burgundy that will get magical in time.
  • DesMarteau commented:

11/22/15, 1:39 PM - Thanks for the note! It was clear to me that I didn't give this enough time...I'll let my other ones sit in cellar for a while :)
