2022 Yura Pinot Noir La Partie Et Le ToutAlsace more |
5/13/2024 - Xavier Auerbach wrote: 92 pointsMuch better than the bottle tasted in December last year. That bottle felt a bit dry and skinny, but the fruit expression is lovely here. Pure and bright and floral, whiff of cedar, spicy depth, elegant weight, fresh and grippy but ripe, lovely balance, tight and youthful finish with good length. |

After a year of fermentation, the beer was macerated with currants, wood, raspberries and blackcurrant lambic, 6.5% ABV. Marvellous black fruit on the nose, candied strawberries, sour brown beer palate, uncompromising acdity, gently woody, energetic and long finish with appetising bitters. Rich and vinous style, layered and complex, expansive and suave mouthfeel, very good resonance and length. At Bar du Champagne, Amsterdam, NL. |

2018 Tony Bornard Le Garde-corpsArbois Pupillin Trousseau more |
5/11/2024 - Xavier Auerbach wrote: 92 pointsA private lunch (Restaurant Bak, Amsterdam, NL): Very stemmy nose, really powerful and tannic on the palate, quite unusual concentration for Trousseau, clearly a child of the hot vintage, black fruit and floral lift, warm spices, grippy but lifted finish with excellent persistence. Not the most elegant of wines, the alcoholic heat (14.9% ABV) shows a bit, but certainly impressive. |

2019 Tony Bornard Au fil des GénérationsVin de France Chardonnay more |
5/11/2024 - Xavier Auerbach wrote: 92 pointsA private lunch (Restaurant Bak, Amsterdam, NL): Energetic, pure and natural, intense yet relaxed, the fruit has some “gras”, vibrant acidity, lemon juice, earth and yeasty notes, linear and precise, Riesling-like florality, long and ever so slightly nutty on the finish. Can a natural wine be classical? Yes it can, classical means exemplary, not traditional… |

5/10/2024 - Xavier Auerbach wrote: 93 pointsA private lunch (Restaurant Flore **, Amsterdam, NL): Pristine bottle, level 3.5cms below the cork. From an old, cold German cellar. Fully mature but lively appearance; wonderfully fragrant nose, perfectly clean and healthy, hints of tobacco and cedar, candied sweet strawberries and autumn forest, rose hip, plum, warm spices and hint of vanilla, harmonious and lively; light and elegant palate, sweet and charming without any sense of decay, harmonious acidity, still good tannic grip; very good resonance and dreamy length. Holds up well for an hour. With old wines, provenance is everything. |

Spontaneous fermentation, aged in older wood, bottled unfined and unfiltered, no sulfur added. Relatively full buttercup yellow colour; wonderful minerally freshness on the lifted nose, lovely varietal typicity, linen and chamomile; great tension on the bright and energetic palate between succulent fruit and electric acidity, medium body (13% ABV), gentle bitters; complete finish, floral, whiff of yeast, with very good resonance and length. A beautifully clean and clear expression of natural Chenin Blanc in an unexpected part of France. |

5/11/2024 - Xavier Auerbach wrote: 91 pointsSecond bottle from a full case purchased at auction recently. From an old German cellar. Pristine condition, level into neck. In remarkably fine shape, fresh and energetic, gravel and cedar, relatively slender but still with a good stuffing of fruit and spice, elegant and lively, good length. Perfect luncheon claret, Michael Broadbent would have opined, youthful for what it is. Holds up well on the second day - good storage is everything. |

1981 Staatsweingut Tokajihegyalja Szamorodni SzárazFurmint more |
5/11/2024 - Xavier Auerbach wrote: 90 pointsA recent acquisition at auction. From an old German cellar. Believed 1981. No legible vintage on the label or the short cork (printed with the words Tokaji Wine Trust). The neck label mentions "S 88 334625" however, and Szamorodni Száraz was usually bottled seven years after the vintage at the time. Medium golden colour; fresh and minerally nose, clean and clear but not very expressive, light aromas of candied fruit, bruised apples and white nuts, good depth; the palate is dry and steely, with nice volume but also slightly tired bitters; savoury finish, dry and grippy, good persistence. Old but perfectly healthy - especially impressive for a wine destined for the German (super)market(s) that was probably intended to be drunk more than thirty years ago. |

2021 Nicolas Barbou Folie InsolenteTouraine-Oisly Sauvignon Blanc more |
5/9/2024 - Xavier Auerbach wrote: 91 pointsA private lunch (Wine Bar Oocker, Amsterdam, NL): Organic viticulture, relatively young Sauvignon Blanc vines on soils of clay and sand, aged for 20 months in oak, 13.5% ABV. The floral aromatics are distinctly Riesling-like, yeasty notes from the long élévage, spicy depth; silky and rounded palate with considerable weight (13.5% ABV), fresh but soft acidity, succulent fruit, satiny texture, rich but elegant; lacks precision on the finish - for my palate at least. |

2022 Vincent Paindavoine Coteaux Bourguignons Les PaquiersPinot Noir more |
5/9/2024 - Xavier Auerbach wrote: 91 pointsA private lunch (Wine Bar Oocker, Amsterdam, NL): From a lieu-dit in Vosne-Romanée just north of the village, and east of the D974 so outside the AOC, biodynamic viticulture (not certified), vines planted in 1968 (70%) and 2014, 100% destemmed, fermented with indigenous yeasts, aged in older barrels. Wonderfully delicate and perfumed, noticeable Vosne spice, elegant and playful, light on its feet, flowers and the purest crushed raspberries, perfect balance, subtle wood, tender tannins, dreamy finish, very good length. Perhaps not very complex, but so eminently drinkable. |

5/8/2024 - Xavier Auerbach wrote: 92 pointsFifth bottle from a full case purchased at auction in 2020. Decanted two hours in advance. On fine form, youthful and energetic but comfortably in its drinking window, perfectly classical Pauillac / Cabernet style, elegant but a bit more masculine and muscular than previous bottles perhaps, refreshing acidity, firm tannins, very good resonance and length. Lovely now, good future. |

5/7/2024 - Xavier Auerbach wrote: 92 pointsA private dinner (Restaurant Bennie's, Amsterdam, NL): Organic viticulture, in conversion to biodynamic, 15 months in foudres and French oak, 14% ABV. Delightful black cherry fruit, liquorous but fresh, violets and roses, palpable stony grip, good weight but avoids excessive ripeness, spicy slate, silky texture, gently grippy tannins covered in flesh, concentrated but transparent, generous and rounded but with a clear and precise expression, youthfully tight and dry finish, very good length. |

5/7/2024 - Xavier Auerbach wrote: 92 pointsA private dinner (Restaurant Bennie's, Amsterdam, NL): Organic and biodynamic viticulture. Made with 100% Moscatel de Chipiona from "El Camino del Puerto" from "Pago Abulagar" (0.7 ha), 15 months in French oak, 14% ABV, 1550 bottles produced. Rich Muscat aromas and rich and ripe fruit, the nose not unlike a fortified Rhône Muscat, quite dry and refreshing on the palate, good freshness and lots of chalky energy, clear and pure expression, nice fleshy weight, attractive bitters and yeasty complexity, convincing and expansive finish. Excellent and interesting. |
