2015 Tenuta Fanti Brunello di MontalcinoSangiovese more |
5/21/2024 - Francophile1 Likes this wine: 90 pointsSimilar to my prior two notes. This is a lighter bodied and more feminine expression of Brunello. Pairs better with a simple pasta dish than a hearty one. Still holding back and somewhat muted. Decanted only for 30 minutes. |

2020 K Vintners Syrah Motor City Kitty Oldfield-Boushey VineyardWashington more |
5/19/2024 - Francophile1 Likes this wine: 90 pointsThis would have benefited from a one hour decant. PnP did not allow it to open up. This is a big, inky, blue fruit new world Syrah. If you can look past the fruit concentration, oak, and alcohol, there is a vein of noble Syrah varietal hiding just beneath the surface. |

5/19/2024 - Francophile1 wrote: 90 pointsThe mistake I made was to pop n pour this wine. It was tight, restrained both on the nose and finish and it desperately needed food with it. My last glass was the best one and it began to open up in the glass. This needs a few more years to integrate and get comfortable in its own skin. I will hold for two more years before trying another or at least decant it and pair it with food the next time. |

5/20/2024 - Francophile1 Likes this wine: 88 pointsLosing its fruit and very earthy. English black tea, cranberry, touch of leather. Good, but not great. |

2008 Château Troplong MondotSt. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend more |
5/18/2024 - Francophile1 Likes this wine: 92 pointsLast tasted in 2019. This is maturing nicely. While the Merlot is plush, the primary profile is chocolate, espresso, and green herb. I don’t know the blend in this wine, but I’m willing to bet the Cab. Franc is dominant. Tannins are softening but still somewhat grainy. Hold this for another five years. I believe it will evolve in a good way. 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

2015 Pauillac de LatourRed Bordeaux Blend more |
5/17/2024 - Francophile1 Likes this wine: 90 pointsThis will get better with age. That said, it drinks well after a 2 hour decant. More reddish fruit than black. Still primary but with Pauillac terroir and minerality. The big question to ask yourself… would you rather spend $90 on a third label Latour or on a third, fourth, or fifth growth Bordeaux first label? Tough decision or not? 2018 Boscarelli Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva Sotto CasaSangiovese more |
5/15/2024 - Francophile1 Likes this wine: 91 pointsThis is bigger and bolder than the standard Boscarelli VDN. The color is darker, richer, slightly overripe with silky smooth round tannins. While I prefer the standard bottling because it is more true to its Sangiovese roots, I still enjoyed this wine. It paired nicely with a veal chop and risotto |

2017 Domaine Jean Grivot Clos VougeotClos Vougeot Grand Cru Pinot Noir more |
5/13/2024 - Francophile1 Likes this wine: 95 pointsIn contrast to the Magnien Gevrey VV that we had just before it (Brawny, Exotic) this Grivot was utterly delicious, refined, femanine yet complex. Wonderful nose, purity of bright red fruit and a long polished finish. I was surprised this Grand Cru was drinking as well as it did at such a young age. I will be buying more. |

2021 Michel Magnien Gevrey-Chambertin Les Seuvrées Vieilles VignesPinot Noir more |
5/13/2024 - Francophile1 Likes this wine: 92 pointsDang. I was expecting this to be tight and closed due to its youth. On the contrary, this was great straight out of the bottle pop n pour. While it has firm tannins and a strong backbone, the sexy Gevrey fruit powers through it all with a nice long finish. A really great village wine from Magnien. |

5/14/2024 - Francophile1 Likes this wine: NRWhile I’d love to give this a high score, I just can’t. For a $500 bottle of 23 year old wine from Harlan, it should be much more interesting to drink than it was. So linear, so predictably California new world style. Lacking soul and personality. While silky smooth and in its maturity window, it was just boring. I cannot belief I ordered this off the list instead of my first instinct which was a 2012 Guigal La Turque for the same price. I should have trusted my instincts. |

5/10/2024 - Francophile1 Likes this wine: 92 pointsSimilar to my prior tasting note, but this time a little less interesting because it wasn’t compared head to head to another wine. Tonight, it just tastes like a really high quality Napa Chardonnay. |

5/9/2024 - Francophile1 Likes this wine: 90 pointsBottle Dog’s tasting note just before this one describes this wine very well. Not much more to add other than it took two hours in the decanter to unfold before it became interesting. The nose was restrained the entire time, however. This should get better with age. |

2018 Fattoria Petrolo GalatronaVal d'Arno di Sopra Merlot more |
5/8/2024 - Francophile1 Likes this wine: NRInfanticide. I'm not going to give this wine a rating because it was just far too young, primary, closed and brutish. This needs at least 10 more years to integrate and evolve. I hope it comes together because it has the stuffing to be a great wine. |

3/26/2024 - Francophile1 Likes this wine: NRTasted blind. This was my WOTN. Utterly delicious. Similar to my tasting note from January 1st 2024. Deep gold color, round lemon fruit, just the right amount of oak, incredible minerality, a big wine but with high acidity. In a word... YUM! |

3/26/2024 - Francophile1 Likes this wine: NRSimilar to my tasting note from one week prior. I brought this wine because it was drinking so great before. This is the best expression of Morey St. Denis that I have had. Hubert Lignier is a great producer. Young, but oh so delicious. |
