2004 Quinta Sardonia QSVino de la Tierra de Castilla y León Tempranillo Blend, Tempranillo more |
11/22/2019 - ParkHill Likes this wine: 94 pointsInteresting flavor profile. Still inky and dense but it has become more mellow. With time and air we get somewhat more fruit. Light, soft tannins hiding underneath. I don't have any sense that this wine is past its time, but it is drinking very well right now. |

8/8/2017 - ParkHill Likes this wine: 96 pointsReally wonderful wine, full of flavor and intensity. Nice, tarry depth, and good balance between fruit and tannin. Drinking very well right now, and in no sense is this past its prime. |

5/13/2016 - ParkHill wrote: 94 pointsDrinking beautifully. Much more open right now than my other 1999s. Soft and dark, with low acid, and velvety tannins. Reminds me of 1998 barolos. |

2/6/2016 - ParkHill wrote: flawedIntense, but drinking well. Tannins well under control from all the fruit. Lots of cherry style flavors. But, there was also a strange "burnt-cherry" taste that bordered on melted plastic. I can't decide if it is an off bottle, or a phase, so I gave it a flawed rating. |

11/29/2015 - ParkHill wrote: 92 pointsCherry, Ink & tar with some vanilla underneath, rather than rose & spices. Still somewhat primary and perhaps even a bit closed. Tannins evident but not unpleasant. Some of my other 1999 Barolos like Monprivato, seem to be coming into their drinking window, but perhaps the more masculine vineyards require another couple years. |

8/22/2015 - ParkHill wrote: 95 pointsIntense, black with inky (Blackberry & licorice) flavors. I patiently waited, and was rewarded by a great wine that is drinking very well at 10 years of age. Maybe some alcohol and primary notes, but that is balanced by the tannins and fruit. I'm very willing t put a 95 on this. Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

2/7/2015 - ParkHill wrote: 94 pointsAt uncorking, it starts out with a neutral, mild-plum flavors, but with air it soon opens up showing lots of tart-cherry flavors. I don't notice much tannin unless it is hiding under the acid and fruit. In an hour or so the fruit intensifies to balance nicely with the tartness. Drinking very well at this point, but still shows a primary profile with all that acid and fruit; probably more upside. |

12/29/2014 - ParkHill Likes this wine: 94 pointsLovely and drinking well, as if it is just coming into the drinking window. Nice balance of fruit with a bit of sour cherry moderated by vanilla. The tannins are gentle, and complementary to the fruitiness. |

11/26/2014 - ParkHill Likes this wine: 94 pointsRich and Interesting mix of flavors. Dark fruits with vanilla, raisin, a little tar and bitterness, almost worcestershire sauce. Tannins there, but hidden by the fruit. Drinkinf very well, although it feels like the intensity is increasing, and that there is plenty of upside. |

8/22/2014 - ParkHill Likes this wine: 94 pointsIntense, dark, inky and earthy. Very enjoyable wine. Other recent reviews are spot on. Drinking very well, but would surely improve in coming years. |

8/19/2014 - ParkHill Likes this wine: 95 pointsDrinking easily upon opening, but not at a 95 level. Next day same; Third day suddenly takes on more weight, depth and breadth. Not tarry so much as meaty. This suggests that it would improve by waiting another couple of years. |

2/24/2014 - ParkHill wrote: 95 pointsWow! Powerful flavors with lots of fruit and depth. 48 hours; 72 hours, still going strong. Very enjoyable already, but it still has quite a lot of primary character and tannin. I think it deserves another five years of cellar, which may add meatiness. |

11/29/2013 - ParkHill Likes this wine: 95 pointsWow, wow, wow! So different from the last times, and clearly I should have waited. For my education: all the sour notes had disappeared and there was no lightness at all. Rich, plum-y, full, cedar and smoke. Tannins full, but pleasant. Definitely in the window, with room to spare. |

3/4/2013 - ParkHill Likes this wine: 93 pointsRich and fruity with a decent tannic kick. It drinks well, but it is still somewhat primary, even after being open for a day. I'd leave this in the cellar for a few more years. |

3/2/2013 - ParkHill Likes this wine: 93 pointsCherry, carmel, vanilla and a little tar. Low acid. Rich and sweet, rather than tart, tannins hide under the fruit, but as the fruit opens they stay gently hidden. Deeply flavorful and very balanced, and very, very easy drinking. Absolutely ripe and ready. |

2001 Conterno Fantino Barolo ParussiNebbiolo more |
2/28/2013 - ParkHill Likes this wine: 93 pointsLots of intense red fruit with a touch of tar and a touch of vanilla-caramel. Fresh, lively and still primary, and the tannins still strong, so I would say wait for another couple years. My recent experience with 2001 vs 2000 Barolos indicates that the 2001s are all much better than the 2000s. The 2000s are all ready and drinking well, but perhaps fading, while the 2001s are still too primary but showing lots of promise. |

2000 Giuseppe E Figlio Mascarello Barolo MonprivatoNebbiolo more |
2/27/2013 - ParkHill Likes this wine: 92 pointsSubtle and aromatic. Probably reaching it's peak. This wine was very enjoyable in 2010 - 2012, but now it seems to be losing it's punch. The 2000 Cavallotto has so much more going for it, and wish I had more of it. but I can happily enjoy the Monprivato. For me, these two wines are the QPR leaders in Barolo, one lighter the other darker. |

2/27/2013 - ParkHill Likes this wine: 94 pointsVery enjoyable and drinking well. Tannins are supportive, but the tannin-fruit combination is still primary indicating patience. I wish I had more, as this wine clearly has the structure and power to deliver 2, 4 or 8 years down the road. The 2000 Cavallotto with strong fruit and flavor is definitely a class above the 2000 Monprivato, which is softer and more subtle. |

12/25/2012 - ParkHill wrote: 94 pointsCompared with 2000 Monprivato, this was more vibrant and alive, as well as more powerful. Fruit forward and fresh. Opened up over the evening, to become more meaty. Very lovely and nice to drink, but this is still a young wine. |

12/15/2012 - ParkHill Likes this wine: 93 pointsRich and vibrant with plenty of supporting tannins. Dark cherry and vanilla style, rather than tar and roses. Drinking well, but the fruit & tannin balance indicates this wine has much more time available, and I think waiting would be rewarded with either more delicacy or more depth. QPR is superb... you can't go wrong under $60 barolo of this age and quality. |

8/15/2012 - ParkHill wrote: 90 pointsRequires an hour or so to open, but remains a bit pinchy and bitter even at 23 hours. I'd say wait another couple years. Plenty of intensity in the flavors and a little acidic. The tannins are better, but still grippy. Alcohol feels high, which would be better if the fruit was deeper rather than tart. I still rate this pretty high. |

7/27/2012 - ParkHill wrote: 96 pointsAwesome wine. Clearly better than any Barolo I've recently tried, so I have to rate this very high. Cherry, orange peel, a little tar and cinnamon. Tannins, acid and bitterness are slightly bristly, which speaks to a certain youthfulness. Very rich in an oily or syrupy way. I've never had a comparable experience in Barolo. I'm so thrilled I took a chance on an off year at a great price. I can only echo and quote Barolo Raymond: "Extremely long, refreshing focussed, well-defined super finish (cannot attempt to describe that perfect sensation). Forceful, austere and restrained, lasting forever, and ever so drinkable." |
