Stored in home cellar since release. Uncorked about 3 hours prior to drinking, which I think maybe 90 minutes would've been better. Not a focused tasting for us as it was more a wine we just enjoyed drinking. It was in good shape and while it could last 3-5 more years, I don't think it will improve so I recommend you DRINK UP.

2014 MTR Productions Syrah Memory Found

Recently purchased via FP who received them directly from Matt R. Uncorked it 3 hours before drinking. Great aromas that are hard for me to place, but very appealing. On the palate, it comes across with a medium to lighter body, lower tannic structure, touch of savory and dark fruits, and plenty of acid, but not overdone. Based on the acid, color, cherry flavor suggestion, I think it presents as majority Grenache, so I find it amazing it’s labeled a Syrah. Guessing minimal extraction efforts in making this.

I’m not very familiar with No. Rhône’s but I’m guessing this aligns with that style or a “cool climate “Syrah”. There is a small amount of the Rocks feel across the mid-palate and smell. These easily thrive to 2030, if not 2034 as RPERRO noted. An interesting wine and nicely atypical to the many WA Syrahs I’ve tasted. Good to see Matt experimenting with a “new” way to make WA Syrah! Ok QPR at the FP Redacted $40 price.

Cork quality was off the charts and looked like it could've supported this bottle's evolution for decades. Zero seepage. Drank without food. Bought at winery in 2018 and stored optimally since then.

PnP...magnetic medium strength nose of dark fruits with a hint of oak. On the palate, for the first two hours it seemed tight and very structured and only finally loosened a bit after 2 hours. It had medium acidity and body and the flavor had some black cherry peek out towards the end. The fruit spectrum was a bit quiet.

Certainly, decant for 2 hours and maybe four hours. I think this can last another 10 years, but I only had that one bottle so won't be able to experiment. With the shortage of fruit flavors, I'm not sure if extra time will make those appear though, so that's a risk. Today, it was a more of a masculine, intellectual wine versus one that's more joyful and tasty to drink. Clearly a well made mine! Scoring a 91, which is in the middle of Excellent.

Just looked at other CT tasting notes and it seems I should've waited until year 20 to open this, but even then maybe no guarantees I would've enjoyed it more.

This is a unique one. Not sure if they intend to make it in the style of Tavel, a rose that I have limited experience with anyway. I say Tavel due to the similar darker color. I can't quite pin down any distinct aromas other than slight suggestions of dusty chalk and very faint strawberry. On the palate, if blinded I'd say this is a white wine due to the fuller, roundish, body with some strawberry. Certainly not a dry wine as there's a suggestion of sweetness, perhaps hidden a touch with the stated 14.1 ABV. At this stage there isn't any tannic dryness either, but not sure if this style ever intended for that. If you want a Provencal Rose certainly look elsewhere as that's clearly not TC's intent. This drinks well for what it isn't and can last a few more years. Giving it an 85 which is the top of the Good rating range.

PnP, drank without food over 2.5 hrs. My first Mexican wine, gifted by a co-worker.

A: Very strong and appealing, brambles, dark fruits, coffee, black pepper.
P: As it initially entered my mouth it had a fleeting sense of a dry, full-bodied structured wine that interestingly disappeared as it hit the mid-palate and finish. Certainly, a lack structure seemed to prevent most of the taste to appear as it initially did. However, after about an hour, the middle gained considerable weight along with some oak structure appearing, which made it much better than shortly after opening. The acidity and flavor intensity were medium with a short finish that stayed short for the whole bottle.

O: Certainly an interesting bottle and definitely recommend giving this a 30-45 minute decant so that it shows better. Not sure if eating food would've helped. Certainly has 1-2 years of life left that may help, but might be risky to hold longer. Will look to have another Mexican one next time I come across them.

Scored it a 85, which is an average of an 84 (G) and 86 (VG) after an hour open. Not sure what it costs, but I'd find USD20-25 a fair price.

Bought upon release and stored at 55 degrees since purchase. Uncorked about 4 hours before drinking with no decant. Kept the wine around a 65 degree drinking temp.

Not sure what to say about this other than I hated it as the aromas and palate made me think of a cola with dark fruits. It also had a very slight off-putting effervescence that completely reinforced the cola idea, as in one that had been open for many hours and was nearing a flat stage.

It's my first Aubert PN and I bought it off the strength of their Chard reputation. Fortunately, I have only two other PNs, but not from this vineyard. Please be better.

From my perspective, this was a complete rip-off at $85 as it tastes like no other PN I've ever drank, which to date is ~420 botttles. If I had to find something similar, I'd suggest it's more like a very concentrated, hot vintage, amped-up, over-extracted Morgon Gamay or RR PN.

No idea how this has a CT rating of 94 unless my bottle was different from everyone else's. Could it be the clone types or soil that drives this? I hope it's not winemaker manipulation as if I had tasted blind, I would not have guessed it was a PN. I'll take a Santa Maria PN over this at half the price every day of the week! Fingers crossed my next two are different and better.

Rating this a generous 84, which is almost the top of CT's suggested Good rating category. Can last longer, but I can't see how it improves with add'l age. Good Luck!

Was a pale, brickish, garnet color. Aromas were a little unusual as there's not much fruit in it. On the palate it was thin, not PN-like, with a medium minus acidity. While this seemed past its due date to me, I don't know if it would've been much better 5 years ago. Down the drain it went.

Lots of fine sediment so stand the bottle up early and strain it. Decanted in a skinny one for 45 minutes first that seemed to work fine.

A:, strong, seductive showing aged cedar, root beer, dark fruits, hints of eucalyptus, forest floor.

P: doesn’t show as well as the aromas. But the flavors favorably mirror those of the nose. Medium body and acidity. Starts out well but the midpalate ends with a bit of hollowness with a short, boring finish. Additional air didn’t help it. It’s too bad as I could smell this forever!
Drink up as add’l age won’t help this.

PnP. This is a dense and very complex, structured wine that is quite a mouthful to process. Definitely Bordeaux-like! Strongly recommend drinking with a meal and grilled meats might be best. It had medium aromatics with a full body and medium-plus acidity. The aromas and palate were dark-fruited with charcoal and cedar/oak notes.

Some of my guests sensed the Cab Franc, but for me it wasn't a striking presence. If it's most heavily Merlot, this reminds me of heavily structured Washington state merlots that need 10 years at a minimum to be tamed. I think this one easily lasts to 2030 and should go longer. It's a very well made wine!!!

Just searched for the variety composition and the CL release notes put the mix at 58% Merlot, 28% CF, 13% CS and 1% PV. It also notes, "Extended maceration ranging from four to five weeks fine-tuned our tannin profiles, allowing us to perfect mouth feel and wine complexity. The wine was aged in French oak barrels, 90% of which was new, for twenty-one months." That's what's behind the massive structure! Maybe this could last 20 more years!

Medium-plus body with a big appealing nose of pear, green apple, lychee, and a pile of dead cut grass. On the palate, the flavors are similar, but this one has become a bit flabby and soft as middle/old age has hit. Held up well on my 2nd night of drinking after sleeping in my refrigerator. Even though the extra air seemed to bring out some acidity, now is the time to finish any you may have given this bottle’s lower acidity.

UnP (unscrew and pour). Initially I smelled pear, green apple, minerals and within 15 seconds the aromas pivoted to sulfur. Then, more sulfur and even more sulfur. Even some sitting in the glass for 20 minutes couldn’t shake the sulfur. There is some nice acid cutting through on the palate that reminds me of a Sauv Blanc with green apple hints. After a few minutes, I could even taste the sulfur. Interestingly, my wife sensed no sulfur. I think she may have some bias though given that she’s an Ozzie in a foreign land. Big disappointment. Won’t rate it as other TNs don’t call out the sulfur so maybe I got a bad bottle or need the winemaker added too much. I let her have the rest of the bottle. SULFUR!

Drank over 2 nights. Modest nose, minimal acidity, on the palate it was duller than watching paint dry, barely any flavor and absolutely no appeal. Granted, my price was USD11, so I didn't have high hopes, but this was a waste of time. Never had an SB that was so boring and barely recognizable as such. Big miss from Winex.

6/13/2023 - wine247365 Likes this wine: 91 points

Uncorked and drank over two nights without food. Put in refrigerator overnight. On opening, it has strong aromatics. On the palate, it's medium bodied with med intensity and acidity along with a decent finish. The first night, the only variety my wife or I could recognize was the Grenache and would've guess it was at least 60%. The black cherry stood out and at times there was a syrupy-ness that appearred. However, that fortunately didn't consistently present. On night #2, the cherry receded to a more savory note with the Syrah coming to the fore. Interestingly, the main grape at 37% was Cab Franc, that I would've never guessed as I couldn't detect any pyrazines. The Syrah was next at ~33% with Grenache the rest. Overall, I liked the wine and would drink again, but with too many Central Coast wines in my cellar I won't rush to buy it again. It's enjoyable and a little different that perhaps reflects the San Luis Obispo terroir of which I'm not familiar. I liked it and recommend others try. I think it will stay at peak another 2-3 years.

Much better than a ‘14 I had in January. Uncorked 2 hours early then drank over 3. Whenever it warmed that funk would come ina a very attractive way. However, since it’s a bigger wine I threw it in my kitchen fridge a few times to keep the temp more towards the lower 60’s as that made the total package better. This bottle could’ve lasted to the late 20’s. Seems like it’s at a peak, but don’t be afraid to wait another 3 years or so.
