Was the star on Xmas, paired with tenderloin and following 2018 Realm BTK. This was on point tonite and in a perfect place. I wish I had more. The corks should be popping on these babies

From memory we did a short decant. Probably 20-30 min. This was ready to go almost right out of the bottle.

I am often disappointed with Pontet Canet and this time was no different. Read some nice reviews so I bought a couple bottles. Decanted around an hour and drank slow. Nose was very nice. Typical Paulliac with cassis, graphite and some black fruits. Palate was almost dead. Nothing in the middle and kind of aggressive acid on the finish. Maybe needs more time? Feel like this wine is over hyped, commanding almost second growth money, but I am usually not impressed. I actually like 06 Bordeaux but not this one.

4/2/2024 10:30:00 PM - I don’t disagree with your assessment of the 06 PC. I have had two bottles that also were just Meh. However the 09,10 & 16’s have all been really good. Maybe it’s just the 06 was not one of their stellar vintages.

1995 Joseph Swan Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Steiner Vineyard

Wow. Purchased from the winery direct in 2023. This was outstanding. Of course they are known for the zins and pinots, but for me, man does Swan do wonders with cab too. Until now, I'd only ever had the Trenton Estate cab, but this Steiner one was nearly perfect. Delicious mountain fruit (and still fruity at 29 years!), a lovely acidity runs through it. My only complaint is that the finish is relatively short -- long, I would say, in general, but short for Swan and given how balanced and full-flavored this wine is otherwise. I'd call it a medium finish where, if it had been a longer finish it would be a 98-100.

Great bottle tonite, however paired against 2016 Quintessa it was second place

I like it, however I don’t know if I’m as gang busters about it as the rest of the reviews, Time will only tell. I sure hope so, as I went long and bought two cases. Right now it is a solid 91 with a short 15 min splash decant. This definitely has a ton of room to only improve from here.

12/14/2023 2:31:00 PM - Gym/Agel, I brought to a local restaurant last night. They were unable to decant. However we had it opened for approx an hour sitting on the table and then probably another 15 min in the glass before we started tasting. It was really good right out of the bottle, however I’m sure a 1-2 hour decant might improve it slightly. Enjoy your bottle tonight.

Drank alongside a bottle from 2009. Fruit and acid bomb upon PnP and tasted along with way to a 4hr decant. Balsalmic cherry and blueberries on the nose. Blueberry dominates the palte. Love the acidity in this. Drinks a little one dimensional and slightly rough around the edges. Light oak and spice. Very dry finish. Needs a few more years IMO

After 24hrs in the fridge the acidity has calmed down and smoothed out the rough egdes

11/23/2023 8:35:00 PM - Mark, are you suggesting that maybe these should be drank young and not be saved for aging? I have a lot of their wines too, and I have been enjoying a few bottles in their youth, but am holding out for more. Let’s hope they age well.

Quick 30 min decant. Needed another 30 min in glass to really open up from 375. Will wait on my remaining bottles. I think it will improve.

4/11/2023 6:46:00 AM - Mark, in hindsight. I probably should have scored a point or two lower. Well a very well structured wine, it wasn’t really my taste profile and maybe I was skewed by other reviews. My hope is that I may enjoy it more in the future.

Opened for 3 hours. Color is very deep ruby/purple. On the nose: plum, cassis, dark chocolate, espresso and graphite. The nose really fills up the room. On the palate: Plum, cassis, dark chocolate and graphite. Fantastic wine. Young but already excellent.I have been drinking older Beychevelle’s and loving them but this one is singing.

Drank this tonight as a vertical 2006, 2009 & 2016. All three opened with a similiar nose. The 06 and 09 were great from the start and the 09 kept getting better and better as the night went on. It took the 16 about 3 hours to come around and is going to be great someday, it still needs 4-6 years to really hit its stride. The 06 after an hour was spectacular, just not quite as good as the other two. Definitely worth drinking now if you’re holding bottles.

2/8/2023 8:08:00 AM - I agree, buying current vintages of Bordeaux to not be able to enjoy is a tough decision. I guess my kids will enjoy the cellar I’ve prepared for them, lol. I Must have 500+ bottles that won’t start their drinking window for another 8 years. I’m too impatient

Vertical of Lynch-Bages from 1989 to 2018, this showed the best of the vintages from 2014 to 2018 on the night: delicious with great concentration and lovely fruit.

I opened one so you don't have to. Put it back in the cellar and grab something older, this needs more time. Tannins for days, acidity to last decades, a beautiful wine to come.

1/20/2023 - Jhalpern27 Likes this wine: 91 points

Enjoyed with some friends last weekend. This is a very well structured Chardonnay and has depth. I just feel Aubert is getting very expensive and there are just so many other great wines at half the price. I need to consider if I want to even stay on the list at these prices.

  • Comment posted by Jhalpern27:

1/21/2023 6:19:00 AM - Beck, okay that was a big statement that I like wines at 50% of the price better. Let me correct myself and say that there are several wines I like almost as much that are significantly Less. 50-70% of Aubert.
Ramey, Shafer Red Shoulder Ranch, Hyde, Far Niente, Hyde DeVillaine, Bedrock, DuMol, Red Car, Rivers Marie, Williams Selyem, Payhlmeyer and Rochioli.

1/21/2023 11:15:00 AM - Beck, btw I just reread my note. I never said there were better wines at 50%. But wines I like as well for less, you said that. After checking your profile and the other comments you’ve made on other comments on Aubert. It is apparent you must be an employee or an owner. You shouldn’t take it personal on people’s opinions of your wine. It’s their opinion to make. Stop trolling the comments on your wine.

I bought another 3 pack and so did everyone else in the group Amazing wine and is drinking great now, I would pop a bottle when you get it, just decant 4 hours or so
