Hm, probably not a perfect bottle. Quite light color, slightly unbalanced nose. Notes of baked fruit, some overripeness, vanilla, nice sweetness - but an irritating pharmaceutical note combined with alcohol. This is resulting in a slightly unbalanced finish which I am not used to from Janasse. Definitely not as good as the Chaupin 2009.

Unfortunately my expectations were higher than what the bottle delivered…

(By the way: the 2009 chaupin was outstanding…)

Dark color, fruity nose. After 2 hours still limited on the palate, some decent red fruit , raspberry, some vanilla: shy. Medium but tannic finish. Not yet developed?

Still a young wine which needs lots of air. Deep dark color, complex, but shy nose at the beginning: Fruit notes open up after 2 hours. Before that the wine seemed to be unbalanced. But then ripe dark fruit was dominating. On the palate a very complex bouquet of black currant, blackberries, dark chocolate and some tobacco. Long finish with fleshy tannins. Much more harmonious on day two, big muscular wine.

Sensational wine: deep golden color, overwhelming, decadent nose immediately after the cork was out! Fat, buttery, creamy and oily texture, which makes the wine filling out every space, every corner of your mouth and palate; you can’t escape. Supercomplex: notes of peach, apricot, pineapple and other exotic fruits. Vanilla and loads of honey. Superconcentrated. Deep. Complex. Medium to long finish. I doubt whether many wine lovers would be able to identify this one against a Montrachet Grand Cru in a blind tasting.
No signs of oxidation. But as I have no experience of old Mount Eden Chardonnays I cannot predict how long this wonderful piece of wine art will persist. Absolutely wonderful now.

2/1/2023 8:06:00 AM - Thanks for the note! Although I had some sad experiences with old white burgundy (but wonderful ones as well) I agree that aged whites can deliver unforgettable wonderful impressions! But this was my first one with Mount Eden …

Harmony and balance. The wine still has a relatively dark color, the nose is complex but well balanced. The bouquet offers dark fruit, vanilla and chocolate. The medium to long finish comes with a wonderful sweetness where all elements are in harmony and the polished tannins indicate the mastership of the winemaking. Will hold 1-2 more years if not more.

In the last quarter of drinking window. A Cuvee of 44% Carmenere, 34% Cabernet and 22% Syrah. Very dark color. Smokey nose of ripe dark berries. Harmonious and balsamic on the palate, silky. Some decent notes of blackberry but also cigar plus some sweetness. Nice. Medium to long finish. Drink up.

Sensational C9P at a mature stage! Deep red color. Dark fruit and secondary aromas like pepper and garrigue notes combined with a bunch of sweet spices in the nose. Wonderful explosion of aromas on the palate: red and black currant, cherries, plum added to Asian spices ( one of the reasons why C9P goes well with Asian cuisine). Silky texture and a long marvelous finish in an excellent balance. A deep wine expirience. Elegance and power ( the 15% alc well integrated), this is why wines of that region are famous. Will stay on that stage for minimum 3-5 more years. Super!

Young and exotic wine. Light yellow color, hedonistic and fruity nose. Charming and creamy on the palate. Long finish with lemon, quince, some plum. Wonderful round and balanced. Promising future.
