A correct Gamay. Nothing spectacular, but pleasant all the way through. Serve slightly chilled.

2007 Château des Cléons Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine

Melon de Bourgogne more

Great QPR. It's crisp and fresh, with almost no finish. A very honest Muscadet; not very complex, but great with fish.

2006 Evans & Tate Sauvignon Blanc

Crisp acidity and citrus flavours dominate. The finish is quite pleasant, with wet stones and unripe apples. Great on a warm day with olive bread and mozzarella. I'm guessing that it would also be a good match for white fish in a light sauce.

NV Tenuta Ponte Irpinia Carazita

Great wine; I think it should be near its peak by now. A lot of sediment, and it still benefits from some air, so make sure to decant it first. A very nice nose, and the earthiness makes its way into the taste. Coffee and cherries predominate, though I guess some spices can also be felt (it's hard to say with all the earth around it).

I thought this was good on day 2 as well. A nice, well-made malbec.

2005 Kellerei Bozen / Cantina Bolzano Alto Adige - Südtirol Grieser Riserva

Lagrein more

2/23/2009 - alexrad wrote: 88 points

Not the best Lagrein I've ever had. It's a Riserva, so it's oaky, and maybe this would have gotten better with some more time in the bottle, but at the moment, the oak didn't help much. Not a bad wine, but not as rich as it could be.

Good with food; it may benefit for a little more bottle time.

Some minerals on the nose. The wine is better on the second day (we didn't get to the third). Though a bit rustic, it seemed fairly well integrated, and it gets better with some air. Very good with mushrooms.

2006 Yering Station Pinot Noir E.D.

Yarra Valley more

1/7/2009 - alexrad wrote: 88 points

Served slightly chilled; having it at room temperature doesn't seem like a good idea. Some light preserve on the nose; not very well defined. The taste is better: cherry preserves, floral notes, perhaps some ripe berries. Quite elegant, goes well with tuscan bread and some cured meat. Not as crisp as other roses; more like a light pinot noir.
