5/23/2024 - Cablover1982 Likes this wine: 97 pointsWhat a treat on Thursday. Super expressive is this Lava Block ‘19. Pitch black color, freshly picked blackberries, crushed plums, graphite, herbs, cedar box, chocolate, pepper, new leather and hints of cinnamon. It’s big, boisterous, bold, complex, lively and structured! Lovely tannic structure, long finish. Just right for my palate. Mark Herold nailed it! Cheers! |

5/23/2024 - alanr wrote: 91 pointsMedium light body, garnet with a slight leaning toward brick, there’s a hint of Anderson Valley pine forest spice on the nose, and even more on the palate, with lovely medium cherry/raspberry fruit, good acidity, quintessential AV Pinot. Not overly complex, but plenty of interest, beautifully balanced, elegant, drinking perfectly. Quite delicious. |

5/23/2024 - Macenn77 Likes this wine: 93 pointsSuch a surprising wine. Just so delightful, drank like a 15-20 year old Zinfandel vs a 47 year old one. Really not a lot of bricking, just dark fruited goodness. I loved it, my surprise of the year. |

5/23/2024 - Macenn77 Likes this wine: 92 pointsNicely open and ready to go. I would prefer a little more age to let the fruit integrate. Drank next to a 2008. I liked the 08, but I think somewhere in between would be optimal. |

5/23/2024 - Macenn77 Likes this wine: 92 pointsNicely integrated with tertiary notes sinking in. Still drinking well, would drink up over the next couple years. Drank next to a 2018 of the same wine, what a difference ten years make. The room was mixed on their preference, though I think the 2008 was preferred. |

5/23/2024 - Karay161 Likes this wine: 92 pointsWine starts out with a sweet cherry nose followed by a burst of bold fruit on your first mouthful with flavors of raspberry, bing cherry, red currants with end notes of white pepper, cocoa & clove. The finish is long with a pepper zing. For me it was a delightful wine & went well with the lasagna we had. |

5/23/2024 - sh6k wrote: 98 pointsI had to stop my conversation because the wine was so good I needed a moment. Amazing richness but not overpowering or overextracted heavy feeling, felt very in its box of deliciousness. Wine of the night. Certainly could benefit from a few more years of age — the tannins are fierce — but it’s quite integrated and fully open so I loved it now. |

5/23/2024 - MuddyBoots wrote: NRA gift. Huge nose of ripe compotted dark fruit - albeit with some layers - suggesting something quite exaggerated will follow. And on cue we have very concentrated roasted fruit on the palate with a curious but pronounced flavor of the remains of yesterday's burnt embers / charcoal combining with some shocking heat. Grown at very high altitude but still managing to clock in at 15.4% alcohol. That so many appear to like this a great deal - including presumably the person who gave this to me - is testimony to the laudably wide range of divergence in the preferences people have. For this taster this bottle represents pretty much everything I dislike about this exaggerated style of Cabernet from Northern California. If I am being brutally honest I am not sure how it could be less appealing. But a choice, I suppose....Apparently the last year of this wine.... |
