We will have a brief bit of read-only time and a short planned outage between 9-10am PST on December 28, as we upgrade the site with much richer international currency support.

We are very, very excited to roll this feature out, especially for our users living outside of the United States who regularly buy wines in multiple currencies.

Hello all, we have been working on this deployment but unfortunately hit some other unrelated snags that have delayed us. We are still working on it and will update you as soon as we clear the roadblock.

OK, we are making some progress on our hiccup, and we will likely finish the deployment tonight more in the 9pm Pacific timeframe.

Alas, we have really been struggling with a SQL Server Replication glitch today. We hope/think/pray that we finally have it figured out, although we won't know for sure until the AM. We really want to know that this is sorted out before we deploy all of the new currency code and database changes.

We also have walked far enough down this path that we want to go ahead with the deployment, probably tomorrow morning. Sorry for the delay.

OK, we did it and have broken out of SQL replication purgatory. We plan to get going on the actual upgrade in the next hour or so, once the coffee settles in...

The index creation is going more slowly than expected, but otherwise things are proceeding as planned.

OK, we fixed a handful of glitches, and the logs have settled down now. Things are looking good, but we will keep chasing the logs in case...

This is excellent, thank you.

A small thing that I think you have overlooked: on the front page of the main site, the currency symbol for the Total Estimated Value, still seems to follow the "Date and Number Locale" not the "Default Currency". The figure is correct in my default currency (HKD), and doesn't change, but the symbol changes to £ if I change my "Date and Number Locale" to "English (Britsh)".

Sorry, we did some late column renaming, and it tripped up this code. It is fixed now.

Thanks for the new currency support! However, it seems I've encountered a glitch. I changed my currency to CDN and am now unable to edit any of my previous purchases and get an "Invalid purchase ID" error. If I try to accept a pending delivery, I also get "Please specify a non-zero quantity of bottles."

Hmm, did you see an error or something when you first updated your default currency? There was a caching glitch in your account.

Regardless, I have gone ahead and reset your purchase caches, and things should be consistent and working as expected. Please let us know if you see any other odd behavior.

Thanks for the quick fix! I did not notice anything funny when changing my currency settings.

Question (or perhaps comment) on how this feature works.

Say I purchase a wine in a different currency. Does the purchase price change dynamically as currency prices get updated ever quarter? I.e., if I paid £20 for a wine (currently about $25) today, but in three months (or say 2 months and 22 days) the Pound takes a beating, will CT show that I actually paid $20 for that wine?

(I would suggest it should not do that, any more than a wine I paid $50 for 20 years ago should be updated to reflect inflation)

From our FAQ: https://support.cellartracker.com/article/62-currency-support

Q: Where do you get the exchange rates, and how often are they updated?
A: Our initial source of exchange rates is via currencylayer.com. It is our intention to update the exchange rates on a quarterly basis or perhaps even monthly. (Ingesting new exchange rates requires us to then update many averages across the system, so when we first roll this out we are going to limit that somewhat.) We do not currently have any plans to do time-based conversion of exchange rates, so the value of your cellar and your historical purchases could fluctuate at times based on exchange rates.

So we are pretty clear that this is EXACTLY how this is intended to work. If you do not like that, then you should not use the feature and just track all of your purchases in your default currency. It is simply not in scope for us to maintain a full table of all historical exchange rates and to pin the rate to the date of the purchase.
