Sunny and crisp this Valentine's Day morning in Chicago. Forecasted temps are still above average and yard cleanup continues when possible. Cannot remember an indoor track season where we could run OUTSIDE all of February.....so bizarre.

Almost feels like April as the daffodils continue to slowly emerge.

Besides being Valentines Day we closed on our CO house five years ago today. Doesn’t seem possible.

Sure don’t. My property taxes went down 75% too and now funds several trips a year.

Heading to Costco in a boring overcast day. At night I have a wine tasting with a group of friends that I havent seen in 3 or 4 years. I will bring a Greek wine Domaine Glinavos Vlahiko 2020 and a friend is bringing an Armenian wine. The others I have no clue. Gathering at an Argentinian steakhouse that has extraordinary service along with Riedel glass. The food is average, maybe a B-.

Sunny and brisk in Chicago this weekend and the long term forecast for the region is warmer March like temps, almost April conditions going forward. Other than a few weeks in January when it felt like winter these last few months have felt like an extended version of November. Has anybody started growing any seeds for their garden indoors yet? Thinking i may start a few here next week....

Have about 75% of my grapes pruned back thus far and this year seems tricky with the warm weather and now the growing fear of an early bud break and then constant frost concerns. Stay tuned in April.....or possibly even March.

News that I can finally share... :) my wife and I are going to become Grandparents for the first time in August. We cannot wait to meet the little peanut and spoil him or her
rotten. here is hoping the vintage is good this year and i can squirrel away a few bottles for mom and dad to share with the peanut on his or her 21st.

Woke up Saturday morning to fresh snow on the ground (we've had none since mid January) and some cold a$$ temps. It's my only day off this week, so after my morning coffee I need to run errands and maybe work on some pottery. Next week they are predicting temps back in the 60s so the snow should be short lived.

2 day ski trip tomorrow. Mountains supposed to get 8”-20” starting tonight. Hopefully the roads going the back way are decent. No hurry so guess we’ll find out in the morning.

The last two days reached 70° F here before yesterday evenings thunderstorms rolled through and dropped the temps 40+ degrees! Was drinking my beaujolais in the basement while the tornado sirens went off multiple times. Windy blustery and cold for hump day today.

Some pottery practice later this evening but not much else to be excited about until this weekend. The retired folks live the exciting life!

Update.....a tornado touched down about 1 mile from my house last night in a neighborhood that I pass on my way to work. A near miss..... Unusual storms for February, that is for certain.

Everytime we have an extremely hot day like yesterday ( 105f) I know that somehwere in the USA north of us are having a very bad day with tornadoes and big thuderstorms. Yesterday was extremely abnormal and our air conditioning system is already on. How can you plan anything if one day is 100f and the next day is 50 ?

Two great ski days. Snowed all day at Breck yesterday with 5” new and full sunny day today at Keystone. Driving up yesterday in the storm was brutal. Saw two vehicles slide off the road. One 2WD with Texas plates. If you’re going to come to CO in winter conditions with 2WD drive then you get what you get.

VIVA LAS VEGAS!

Hello from Lost Wages, again.

This place is packed. Even for Vegas it's packed beyond packed and March Madness hasn't even started yet.

Years ago i drove to Colorado to go skiing and nobody had a 4WD vehicle for the mountains, and of course it was a clipper system blizzard with the roads shut down but my 2WD made it up to and through the Eisenhower Tunnel but just BARELY. I'm very comfortable driving in the snow, but these days i am much more worried about everyone around me.

Glad you made it safe.

Surprised Las Vegas is busy. Given the $$$$ cost of everything there these days it's not worth it.

Las Vegas is a place you will never see me. Back in the day when it was cheap it was somewhat tolerable. Now that it’s expensive and packed with people no thanks. My last trip there was a fully paid four day trip at the Luxor. After one day I told my wife I was never coming back here. She said, That’s what you said last time. LoL. We ended up leaving a day early and haven’t been back since. Smoke filled casinos with hoardes of people are my worst nightmare. No thanks. Not even for free.

I am really surprised to learn that it is still acceptable to smoke in public indoor spaces in the USA! I'll add that as another reason not to visit.

Avoid Spain also because it’s even worse. Not all places in the US allow smoking in public places. Especially restaurants. Most restaurants you can’t smoke.

Weekend starting a little early for me. Now that the weather has improved and it's getting lighter late in the day I can start considering grilling options. Purchased a few andouille sausages but cannot help but notice that the prices for a steak etc are REALLY getting expensive. Same for most seafood. I know we had inflation, but not 100% inflation.

Next week is 60s in the Midwest, so in addition to grilling outside I expect my apricot trees to bloom....probably 2-3 weeks early (for both).

That big fat rodent named Phil did say we were getting an early spring.

Yes! I love that movie, particularly the furnace fighting and tire changing scenes. The belch of black smoke that came out the vent, intermixed with a tornado of cursing, makes me LOL every time.

Snow Day here today but returning to low mid 50’s by Sunday. Headed to San Diego the week after next to need to dust off my shorts and Billabong tshirts.

Going to send a couple of Wildfork Prime Picahna’s out there for a nice family BBQ. My son has maxed out his 325 bottle cellar already so will need to see what he has in there and free up some space for him.
