Since you don't have to actually own a wine to enter your own drink dates, would it not be preferable to exclude those entries from the community values? I just see that as an opportunity for someone to enter a bunch of "noise" into the formula. Sure, go ahead and enter values but if the wine isn't in their cellar, exclude it from the community.

Just a thought

Because any bad actor (someone that doesn't even own a bottle) can enter values to their heart's content, while having a worthless effect on the community values.

I only bring it up because I noticed some strange community windows and thought, "I wonder if those that enter values even have the wine?" Not that it is endemic ;)

In 20 years I have never found "bad actors" who try to influence the data though.

I have seen users who make typos or people that put in extreme values for bottles that they never intend to drink though, but I try to weed these extreme outliers out the averages.

Can't imagine what kind of 'bad actor' would have the time and motivation to engage in such sabotage. More likely well-meaning but inexperienced people who don't realize you can leave those options blank. I for one occasionally enter dates based on wines I don't own but which were shared by friends in a group setting--wines of substance and value where progress assessments are meaningful. I'm sure I have a lot of company in believing I'm contributing to the common good by doing that.

Also, why would you need to own a wine to have a relevant opinion about its drinking window ?
I have hundreds of wines in my cellar that I have very little clue about (because not tasted yet), and on the other hand I had 2018 Coche-Dury Bourgogne in a restaurant last week and would be able to recommend a Drinking Window although I don't (and will never) have any in my cellar.
