Introduction

This was the monthly big group gathering. We had a group of 14 at two tables of 7. The theme was Cali, anywhere but Napa. We had quite a variety of wines. Tasting notes were sparse tongiht.

Flight 1 - Table 1 Wines (11 Notes)

Flight 2 - Table 2 Wines - small pours (9 Notes)

  • 2016 Kistler Chardonnay Hudson Vineyard 93 Points

USA, California, Napa / Sonoma, Carneros

Same bottle as galweskj. Small pour. Agree on the comments. This seemed balanced and contained, in a good way. I thought it was a fair bit better than the '16 Dutton Ranch.

  • 2011 Roederer Estate L'Ermitage Brut Rosé 92 Points

USA, California, North Coast, Anderson Valley

Very pale rose color. Small taste. Red fruit, cream, strawberry, sleek minerality, medium plus bodied, very good.

  • 2012 Schramsberg Vineyards J. Schram 88 Points

    USA, California, North Coast

Pale straw color. Small pour. Ripe red apple, lean and somewhat thin, a little oxidative. This just didn't do much for me. Was surprised by the full tag too.

  • 2019 Sine Qua Non Distenta White I 93 Points

    USA, California, Central Coast

Light-medium gold color. Small glass over 30 minutes. So the one word that comes to mind for this wine is: Schizophrenic. This is a wine that doesn't know what it wants to be. The blend is pretty out there (Roussanne 41%, Chard 26%, Petit Mensang 14%, Viognier 12% and Gelbert Muskateller 7%), and it sort of tastes like all of them. This is not to say I didn't like it, because I did. There are some interesting aromatics, I mean it is effusive aromatically. I like the brine and swampy earthiness on the nose; there's plenty of tropical fruits, and the palate is round and plush, though there seems to be enough acid and minerality to boost it. 92-93pts.

  • 2018 Sine Qua Non Grenache Profuga

    USA, California, Central Coast

Small taste. A ripe mix of red and black fruits, lots of glycerin, bold, oak, firm, some alcohol. Needs time (or air). Score reserved.

  • 2013 Calera Pinot Noir Jensen Vineyard 93 Points

USA, California, Central Coast, Mount Harlan

Very small taste. I'm not a big Calera guy, but this was sure nice. I'd drink this in a heartbeat. Nothing really out of place.

USA, California, Central Coast, Mount Harlan

Small taste late. No notes. More what I expect, less what I want.

Small taste, late. No notes, but I liked it a lot. Nice Syrah character, in good shape. Glad I've got a couple of these. 92-93pts.
