This was the monthly big group gathering. We had a group of 14 at two tables of 7. The theme was Cali, anywhere but Napa. We had quite a variety of wines. Tasting notes were sparse tongiht.

Back where you belong old friend. After a couple disappointing bottles, this was showing ripe red apple, spicecake, toast and good energy.

NV Philipponnat Champagne Royale Réserve Brut 92 Points

Ultra-pale greenish gold color. Small glass. Tart, bright, lemon, geat acid, limestone, chiseled and crisp. Drank like an Extra Brut. Very nice.

2011 Mount Eden Vineyards Chardonnay Santa Cruz Mountains 91 Points

Light medium gold color. Drank a glass over an hour. Same bottle as JCGuthrie. This did come off as a bit tired. Round, a little alcohol coming through, pear and peach notes witha little vanilla left. Drink up.

2014 Varner Chardonnay Spring Ridge Vineyard Bee Block 94 Points

Light gold color. Drank a glass over an hour plus. This was in great form tonight. It was the class of all the chards. Steely, crisp, great stony minerality, fresh cut pear, medium body, bright, Meyer lemon, long and vibrant. Loved it.

Small glass. Medicinal at first, red cherry, iodine, evolves and shows more finesse and purity to the red cherry, tart raspberry, light medium bodied. Pretty good. 88 to 89pts.

Very dark red color. Two hour double decant. Drank a glass over an hour plus. No detailed notes here, but this a favorite on the night. Beautiful wine, pencil, cassis, subtle menthol, long silky. Love these older Dick Arrowood wines.

Very dark red/purple color. Slow-O for a couple hours I believe. Small glass over 45 minutes. Ripe, red and black fruits, green, firm tannins. Gut feeling is 90-91pts.
