Somewhat tight window so that we drink well, but nobody can buy the win. We also switch up the order, so the lineup is served double blind.
Cloudy reddish violet; baked raspberry, tart, red and darker fruit, medicinal, iodine, black truffle, plum, almost Grenache-like, acid is a bit firm and almost tinny, beef blood, fresh, seems younger and intense, medicinal but not liqueured, getting softer and lower acid with air, lower alcohol; went back and forth between an elegant CdP and Burg, ended up calling 2010 Corton but looking back at my notes I clearly should have been in Morey and Clos de la Roche.

Deeper core with lighter violet rim; black pepper, granite dust, fresh, juicy, cooling menthol, dusty, mushroom, delicious, smoked meat, green peppercorn, a little blood, very precise; very good; called 2013 Jamet Cote Rotie.

Darker garnet, maroon rim; great nose, green pepper, dusty earth, red currant, ash, age but good drive almost boring, seems like good vintage, still grippy, unmistakably Bordeaux, holly, some sweetness to the fruit; lots of people went Left Bank and I called 1996 Grand Puy Lacoste- I brought this wine but didn't recognize it.

Pretty deeper crimson with thin pale rim; sexy nose, sour cherry and strawberry, super savory, riper, menthol, really good, sandalwood, delicious, richer, very Piedmont-esque, super solid, young but accessible and lots of life; 2012 Il Marroneto Madonna?, fooled again, serious quality here though.

Deeper cloudier core; some VA, sweeter nose, exotic, 5 spice, prune, sandalwood, saddle leather, exotic, rich, savory, kind of a polarizing wine, aged, powerful and mouthfilling, a touch medicinal, why is it so dark; Mourvedre based CdP?- wow was not expecting that.

Deeper garnet with maroon rim; sexy nose, truffle, exotic spice, this seems like the L'Evangile I brought, red currant but a fleshier feel to it, cedar and luxurious wood, sandalwood, a bit abrupt on the finish and a bit of tannin suggest a little more aging would be best, also a little bit of sweat; maybe Left Bank but lots of Merlot if so; delicious, 94+, maybe it is still on the upswing because this was a magnum.

Red crimson core with large red rim; funk and so much character evident on the nose, the nose is more developed and more complex than #6 ('95 Pichon Lalande), dirty, sweat, ash, green pepper, sweet red fruit, tobacco kissed, delicious, a little vapid on the mid-palate detracts, a touch of caraway emerges, sweet cedary finish; in a great spot but lighter finish; from magnum.

Deeper core with reddish rim; chocolate, ripe nose, prune, dark cherry, oak and modern feel to it, raisin, grippy tannins, sweet and liqueured; modern Barolo?, 92+.

See through crimson, cloudy; stronger VA, sexy but sweet, unique and exotic, high toned, Burg-esque; delicious and fantastic in a style I really like; 2010 Rosso del Beppi?

Ruby see through, large pale rim; sexy nose, sweet oak, reduction, sweet cherry, picking up some sweat, soft sexy, grand cru weight and richness, some grip, a bit young and simpler now but shows nice potential; 2011 Perrot Minot?

Pale fresher maroon, large rim; nice nose, alcoholic, medicinal, sexy at this age, elegant plum and red fruit, late grip and mineral evident; solid.

Super pale reddish orange; super bright nose, red fruit if not grapefruit, citrus, tea, pomegranate, sandy, hinting at root vegetables, unique; very tasty.

See through dark ruby; touch of VA, pretty nose, sweet darker berry and plum; reductive and powerful, structured, plum, darker red fruit, still quite youthful and a little 4 square; 2010 Grivot Vougeot?

Liqueured red currant, spice, nice depth; tasty; '05 Redigaffi?; late in the tasting and rapid fire so notes are a little sparse.

Steely yellow; rich and buttery nose, hazelnut, grilled yellow fruit, great balance, lots of fruit with a buttery richness; delicious.

An awesome tasting where quality levels were all very high and consistently good. Only one flawed bottle which is not bad.

2008 Taittinger Champagne Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut
France, Champagne
Challenging to put this up against something unique like the Ulysse Collin Maillons, this is very pure with driving acids, fresh, green apples and cream, very good but subtler, chalky, a bit linear now in its youth but great things down the line.
